Hi Nistiman,
Thanks for welcome!
I couldn't agree more with you Dilshad that while we may look suprisingly at what was considered beautiful only 30 years ago, we should in fact be looking at the present and how warped is its idealized model of women.
Thanks!
There seems to be little we can do to turn back, though. And in some ways, I think this radical shift may even have its benefits. NO, no, I am not enamoured by the waif phenomenon. But, with the increase of diabetes, cancer, and their links to obesity, I too feel pressure to be on the skinny side. And, as our lives become less and less active (let's face it, neither women nor men exert much effort to "catch" their dinner) the push to be skinny may actually be a blessing in disguise.
I agree with your assesment that our lives have become less and less active. I for example spent 8hours a day in front of my computer and then 2-3hours commuting! That's a lot of sitting!!!
The real issue is that we all have a very un-healthy relationship with food, and we havn't given our bodies (and evolution) the time to re-adapt to our new environment.
Back in the days (however this is still true for the majority of the world population), you'd never eat meat every day! You'd be lucky if you could eat meat once a month for someone wedding or if one of your animal started to get close to a certain age (just took the meat example since it is very easy to see).
Today, I can go and eat anything I want EVERY single day! I could eat a hamburger or a "zivirandin" (or doner, gyro, that's how we called it in Amed

) every single day, hell I could it one a lunch and one at dinner!
That alone would be bad, because our bodies are incredibly efficient machines, they would store that for those bad hunger days...unfortunately they would never come...
Now you add all the nasty anibiotics an dother hormones we have in our meats and other foods, and you get all of the diseases you've talked about above.
I may be saying this half tongue-in cheek but just imagine if Kirstie Alley (the actress who keeps getting bigger) was the height of perfection instead of Paris Hilton -- we'd have a lot more people choosing Krispy Kreme doughnuts rather than salads
Well, again, it comes back to the VERY unhealthy relationship we have with food. It's either Krispy Kreme or salads. And believe me to get like Paris Hilton you have to give up more than salad, and that's called your health
A survey taken years back at a campus in the USA showed that a majority of male student would rather have their partners/(or girl friends

) develop an eating disorder (which is life threatning) than being considered "bigger" and specifically a size 7!!!
Imagine that! A size 7 is considered big!!!
And even though we may get as skinny as Paris Hilton...where are those big Pamela Anderson boobs? Where are those lucious big lips?...
This is a race no-one can win!
