Famous church on the island in Lake Wan.

This is Amedi (s.k) in the spring, its breath taking that time of the year.

Image
Ishak Pasha castle. Its at the mouth of Mount Agri. Ehmede Xani is also buried close to the castle.

Erzorum. Largest kurdish city, i think. To my knowledge its also the only kurdish city with a small humble ski resort.

Image
This is Dohuk. Its mountains become a beautiful red at sunset. In my opinion this is an up and coming city, that has much potential.

bijît pesh17!

i think erzurum has a population of almost 600,000. amed (diyarbakir) has a population just over 800,000, so i think erzurum is second largest.

amedîya is fabulous! especially at night in the spring, during a thunderstorm when lightning lights it up! the ancient capital of bahdinan is spectacular then!

i didn't have time to see van, so i will have to see it the next time i go to kurdistan. in amed (diyarbakir), i had a wonderful cheese from van for breakfast a couple of times.

dohuk is my favorite city in the south. my dohukî friends tell me it has doubled in size since 1991 and i believe it will double in size again in half that time at the rate they are building. i definitely agree with you that it is an up-and-coming city with very much potential and i think this is due to the dohukîs themselves.

Pictures are really great, amedîya looks great!
I know someone from there.. damn I want to visit it. I hope they open those airports soon. Maybe a flight from the big cities and then through Diyarbekir - Hawler/Sulaymaniyah would be a good idea
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.
