If you don't understand the meaning of the word "liberated" then please don't use it... you are making fun of the language...

And well - frankly Turks would be the ones who would say such thing to diminish Kurdish achievments... WHY DO YOU WANNA MAKE SOMETHING INTO NOTHING?

Liberation of South Kurdistan from occupiers is SOMETHING - Leyla Zana's policy is NOTHING...

thank you. i'm glad everyone likes the photos. they are part of the treasures i brought back from kurdistan. other treasures being memories and music.

kassem, i refer to bashurî kurdistan as liberated because that's how my bashurî friends in kurdistan refer to it. "liberated" does not have any connection in my mind with all the work being over, and from my observations in kurdistan, i do not believe the kurds there think the work is over either.

now that saddam is no longer a threat to bashur, people can really begin to plan for the future and invest their time, energy and money in kurdistan. before saddam's overthrow, this was not the case. a comparison of property values before and after operation iraqi freedom is one example of how liberation is really the beginning. everyone is now investing in land and the values have risen sharply and continue to increase. construction is going on everywhere and there are also foreign investors who are fueling the construction because of new business that will be created in kurdistan. what foreign company would have invested anything in kurdistan while saddam was still a threat? it would have been a business disaster to do something like that! my point is that things are only now beginning.

by the way, at certain times i do refer to bashurî kurdistan as "iraqi-occupied kurdistan" in order to stress the fact that the kurds are still held within the confines of "iraqi territorial integrity" which was created and enforced by colonial powers. besides, it makes the arabs angry to hear it.

since the great turkish republic has been in a state of serious denial for many decades regarding the existence of kurdistan, and because turks, in general, cannot even bear the sound of the word, "kurdistan," i enjoy making them really angry by using the phrase, "turkish-occupied kurdistan." it is an accurate phrase given all the jandarma, police, traffic police, village guards, etc that populate bakurî kurdistan.

i don't like having to refer to divisions within kurdistan, though. most of the time, i just use the word "kurdistan."

i don't know about making a blog, photo or otherwise. i'd always have to be doing something with it, always updating it.

Vladimir, i have other pictures of turkish troops in liberated kurdistan. these turks are what remain of an agreement between saddam and turkey, that allowed a turkish military presence so many kilometers (15 i think) inside the border. there used to be some in hewlêr too, but they are gone now. if baghdad ever gets its act together, it will have to be the one to tell the turks to leave, or this is the plan, anyway. i wasn't supposed to take these kinds of pictures, so i had to be very careful about it. i had to shoot through the car window as we passed, without bothering about focusing and, on top of that, there were thunderstorms in the area. you can see water on the window that contributes to the smearing of the image.
