DREAM CITY : The dream has come true

This is no more a dream, but a reality that exists now. Irbil’s Dream City is one of the biggest reconstruction projects carried out by private sector.
Just two years ago no one would have thought that this abandoned and desert-like place in Irbil would become such an attractive project. Dream City is a small settlement which holds 1200 houses built on a piece of land with an area of 1,200,000 square meters. The project is located on the edge of Gulan Street of Irbil, just next to the Irbil International Airport. The project has begun from March 2005 and is expected to take more than one year to be completed.

The area of the houses range from 250 square meters to 900 square meters and the houses are sold by 10 to 20 installments, depending on the size of the house. The company building the project is a Kurdish company named al-Sharq el-Awsat (Middle East Company) which is simultaneously building Irbil’s Modern Market, another big and unique reconstruction project in Irbil. In fact, these days Irbil looks like a big construction workshop and wherever you go you would come across a big or small-size project under construction.

After the March 2003 war of Iraq, and the lifting of international sanctions on Iraq and Kurdistan, the country has witnessed an influx of foreign companies and investors. Kurdistan Region, as the safest and most stable part of the country got the lion share of the foreign investment and business involvement. The old methods of construction and architecture gave place to the new ones and projects that would have just seem impossible before that date, are today concrete realities on ground.

In order to further encourage foreign investment in the region, Kurdistan Parliament is considering the issuing of a new investment law that is expected to help attract more foreign investment. Now you can find multi-national companies with luxurious offices in Irbil and the city’s largest hotel Irbil International Hotel is hosting dozens of foreign businessmen and investors.
Some people complain of the high prices of the houses in Dream City saying that only rich people can live there. In their opinion this would enlarge the current gap between the rich and the poor and would deepen the class differences.

"This project would certainly lead to a discrimination against poor people, since there is a wall around Dream city which separates if from other people," says Hawar Ahmad, 26, a university student. "You just see next to this Dream City, Kuran quarter of Irbil which is one of the city's slums."

But Sabir Jabar, known as Abu Mazin, 56, the Sales-Manager of Dream City holds an opposite view arguing that “compared to some affluent quarters of Irbil, our prices are even cheaper. Given that Dream city has all the public services and needs provided for it, the prices are really suitable.” The lowest price in Dream City is $164,000 for a 250 square meters house and the highest one is $700,000 for a 900 square meters house. According to Abu Mazin, the clients are from different strata of society ranging from doctors and engineers to businessmen and governmental officials.

The materials are imported from outside and are of the highest quality, as Abu Mazin told me. All the public services like drinking water, sewerage system, electricity and roads are built by the company and the construction standards are in line with the international ones.

When asked if any concerned governmental ministry supervises the project, Abu Mazin replied “the project is totally run by private sector and it's the clients themselves who will supervise the houses and construction process.” There are schools, supermarket and park inside the Dream City and a lot of area has been allocated for green space. Abu Mazin dismissed rumors that only a special class of people is allowed to buy houses inside Dream City, asserting that “everyone who carries Iraqi citizenship can own property in Dream City.”

Al-Sharq el-Awsat runners have already plans to carry out similar projects in Sulaimaniya and Dohuk, provided the current Dream City of Irbil will make a big success. Abu Mazin even spoke of plans for bigger projects which as he said he doesn't like to reveal them for the time being.

Ask them to get some education then - they need it... APO is of the past - he has become a traitor to Kurdistan - He doesn't want a Kurdistan in the hands of Kurds... So DOWN with him...

poor Apo, if he be radical and say I want indepence, everybody calls him terrorists -extremist - UNrealistic...
and if he be soft, and say I want democracy he will be called traitor

let me ask you something , whihc kurdish leader NOW demands independence ?
Jalal and Massood with 150 000 peshererga everyday called iraq "WANATININA" (our homeland) ...and now you expect Apo to demand indepenece in the prison ? while israel and america is attacking to his troops ?

he shouldnt give reason to our enemies to attack to us...he has demanded the MINMUM human rights !

Apo will always be in our hearts . even I belive he is dead after he was captured , and he can never be our apo again . he is really dead .

Apo has been a catastrophe for Kurds of Turkey. They didn't get anything while he was in activity, their country was burned to the ground, they were forced to chose between state and PKK totalitarisms...Apo is the guy that called traitor every guy who disagree with him, and then said "I never wanted independant kurdistan, it's not my fautl, long live turkish republic".

Read what he says of kurdish people "unworthy of him", how he thinks is some superior being able to "think in 15 seconds what all philosophs wrote in a lifetime".

He was a tragical clown, a guy who sent kurdish figthers to death while resting in a palace in Damascus. He is the guy saying that an independant kurdistan in Irak would be a catastrophe. He is the guy saying that kurds of syria should not riot against Assad's regime.

And how can you speak of Apo demanding human rights...Do you know anything about human rights within its own party?

Anyway he is not the one ruling PKK today! He is just a picture and an ideological alibi for Bayik and Karayilan. Any serious research shows he doesn't control anything since january 2004. Surprinsingly PKK broke the cease fire in june 2004, short after Ocalan's brother (Osman) was forced to leave "Kongra-gel" camp in Irak.

Now that they see that they have no support in Kurdish population of turkey anymore, they decided another cease fire......kurdish problem is depressing in Turkey, that why I was so happy to travel in Iraqi Kurdistan :) :)

dear french friend, your critics are not that Bad, I agree with some of them ..
but . had APO had any friend ? America and Israel and EU (the Reall GODs of the Middle east) sent their troops against him...
what could he do ? except running away to Arab Syria ?...if he hadnt runned away there, israel usa and some EU had arrested him sooner.

if you look at kurdish history thats the same....PUK and KDP got help from former Iranian SHAH and Currect Mullahs.
Mostafa barzani SO CALLED "the father of kurdish nationlism" said "every kurd who dont call himself Iranian isnt kurd"
he said that because he needed Shah's help.

and also Barzani , when the SOVET had asked him to let them open SOVET's embasy in Kurdistan, and also offered him to send his sons (Massod and,,,) to study in Mosco university...
do you know what Barzani had replied to Russia? "I want kurdistan to be the 51th state of USA and I have nothing to do with Communisists"

and now how do you blame APO for running away to syria? offcoruse he couldnt apperantly say to kurds of syria"to revlot" but we all know today all of the movements in Syria - and Armenia been started by Apo.
he Started the Kurdish nationalim's motor in Syria and Armenia and had big affect in Iran and kurd outside. .

if you compare PKK to "PUK and KDP" , you will find out it has been so much better.
PUK and KDP asked saddam to help in killing each other.
PUK and KDP deported IRANIAN KURDs to IRAN , and IRAN hanged them.
PUKD and KDP couldnt control as SMAALLLER land than Apo's Land ,without CIVIL WAR.

PUK and KDP , IMPOSED HALABJA on Kurdistan, because of their ASS LICKING IRAN, they had let iranian troops to go to halabja, and saddam gassed them.

and after all the miseries that kurds in SOUTH faced, that was ONLY AMERICA itself that librated them.with NO FLY ZONE and with military attack to saddam.

-if apo had that much things he would librated all of the kurdistan--

the truth is PKK was JUST UNLUCKY, because their enemy was Turkey.
and Turkey is the vitall alley of usa and israel . infact in north krudistan we have fighted with usa and israel + Turkey.
if PKK's enemy was iran or Iraq, we would have indenepdence there now.because APO had made UNITY between his party and all we kurds need is UNITY.

PKK also was good in changint kurdish cuture , specially about females.
Ezedi kurds of Armeina who had no longer called themself KURD, again called themself Kurd because PKK appolgized tem for "muslems" killing them.
-ezedi kurds were angrey with muslem kurds and they no longer HAD called themself Kurd but Ezedi-

PKK has done many mistakes...many mistakes...but it isnt that much bad that MEDIAS say....it is os much better that american ppl say in their medias
