okay, guys. . . and gals, has anyone seen this news reported anywhere else (and i don't mean the same story from AFP, but original news from other news services), or can anyone verify the story from the danish paper mentioned:

Washington Calls For Denmark To Shut Down Kurdish TV station

COPENHAGEN, Nov 21 (AFP) -Washington has asked Denmark to shut down a local Kurdish television station which is under investigation for links to separatist Kurdish rebels in Turkey, Danish media reported Monday.

"We strongly urge the Danish government to shut down and freeez the assets of Roj TV, Mesopotamia TV and MBMG," the United States said in a confidential request to the ministry of foreign affairs, according to Danish daily Berlingske Tidende.

Turkey has repeatedly asked Danish authorities to revoke the broadcasting license of Roj TV, which cooperates with Mesopotamia TV and MBMG, on the grounds that the station is linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a militant group deemed by Turkey, the European Union and the United States to be a terrorist organization.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week went so far as to boycott a news conference in Denmark attended by a Roj TV reporter.

"How can we come together in a press conference with a member of a medium which is under the patronage of a terrorist organization? That was not possible for me," Erdogan said.

Denmark's broadcasting watchdog ruled at the beginning of the year that Roj TV's programming did not contain incitement to hatred of Turkey, and Foreign Minister Per Stig Moeller on Monday said he had seen no proof that the station had links to the PKK.

Washington however did not appear to agree.

"Given their inflammatory programming (and) their links to the PKK front group, we believe these entities should not enjoy a safe haven in Denmark," the letter reportedly stated.

It went on to imply that Denmark, by allowing the broadcasts to continue, was helping the PKK, which "depends heavily upon European sources for financing, organizational support, recruiting and propaganda operations".

Justice Minister Lene Espersen said on Monday that the letter from Washington had been handed to Danish police, who are conducting an investigation into Roj TV's alleged ties with the Kurdish rebellion.

roj tv is one of the best kurdish TV, without anydobth both their picture quality [related to computer techincs]and their program qualitis is better than other kurdish tvs.


Roj TV and Mezopatmia TV were the "ONLY " "ONLY" "ONLY" kurdish TV that cover news about Iranian Kurdistan .

I repeat other kurdish TVs which are made by PUK and KDP , said NO NO NO NO SINGLE word about what happendi n Mahabad .

and also the only Kurdish radio that I can get in Iran is Mezopotamia Radio...
thats the only way I know kurdish news in Tehran.

That 's a dilemna in fact. I think it is a mistake to forbid Roj TV, for the right to free expression (the fact that Roj TV is at 3/4 stupid and dull propaganda is an else problem, at least they talled, like Medya says, about Iranian agitation, if they ignore absolutely Kurds from Syria...).

But defending the freedom of a party that threatens writers, singers and any kind of expression which is not in its "political line" is a paradox... like when they claim "democracy democray" while they have not the slightest intention to respect it inside their own ranks...

the day that ahmadi nejad said israel must be deleted , Mesopotamia Radio talked about it all the day and showed their protest to ahmadi nejad's words.

I do not expect KDP and PUK say a word about iran ! they have Strong ties with iran.

but I think Roj TV is doing pretty good about iran , and they are the only source about iranian kurdistan...and I dont think it is a good idea to close down roj tv . if they close donw it we wont have anything to read about iranian kurdistan in TVs .

I would like to tell you , iranian agnecies, have blocked Roj TV in many places of Kurdistan ... but not Kurd Sat and Kurdistan TV .

You don't understand Dyaoko. We don't say "let's close Roj TV" but at the same place, Roj TV would have say nothing to protest against the closure of other TV's parties...

And I don't think that Jews have anything to do with that... but the Turkish lobby. Now the next point is what Denmark will answer to that.

BTW it has nothing tragic. Since 1999, Medya TV has closed many times and opened many times, under else names.

during my life I never had any any ifromation about PDKI Komala and other parties... Roj TV made many programs and talked about them... [I watched some of their program in internet]

belve me I didnt expect Roj TV be such accurate , when there was riot in mahabads 2 months ago , they know what is happening in my city better than me...they used to run a very very very usefull Roundtalbes about iranian kurdistan, they talked to many kurds inside and outside iran.
they invited PKDI Komala PJAK and others to round table...

kurdsat music clips are freaking [well they are being better day by day ...but still very bad compared to Roj TV clips]

Well if other TVs were not threatened it is because neither KDP nor PUK are considered like terrorist parties, that is the problem for the PKK... After they have made violent actions in Germany, Swiss, etc., they have been put on the Black list. You could find it hypocrit because Turkey is worse, and that is right, but it is policy not Boy-scout fair game, and the only way for Toj TV to still exist is to state that it is not support the calling of war and violent actions of the PKK...


I know the people who manage Roj TV, it is only the PKK direction. They have tried last year to make reforms, to introduce more dialogues, etc. And because most former members of the party have fled, they have to replace them by people less engaged in the party. But it is very difficult to work with these TVs, many "external" actors complain that it is like working with militaries... They could have improve their manner a bit, but they have the same leaders, so it is difficult to change.

They had tried to change the staff, to liberalize it... But it is not so easy, there are too much spies of the prrty who make reports about this one or that guy, etc.

Of course they inform people about what happens in Iran... Just because the PJALK is a PKK branch. Be sure that when Öcalan said "Syria is a great friend and there is no Kurds in Syria", there was no information concerning Kurds in Syria...

So if you want to have news about Iran, let's watch Roj TV, and news about Western Kurdistan, let's wath other TVs... In any case most of all these medyas are the voice of a party... The only way to have exact informations is to compare them each others.

So the problem of Roj TV is that there are people who try to make a good work but they have to obey to stupid bureaucracy. And the trouble is that the PKK is illegal in EU, so regularly, they are threatened to be banned.

But regularly, they find another place for their broadcast and they open a new TV. So it is not really définitive. 3 months before the decision, they are aware of it and have already prepared another TV...

And concerning the money... the PKK has lost many benefits since 2000, but all the same they have money... Much drug and other deals...

ofcourse and it is a kurdish pain ! I already talked about it as I said , we kurds feel the lack of a national TV, each tv is a party TV , for example if you watch Kurdistan TV they always show dances of ppl with YELLOW FLAG [barzani's flag]and kurdsat shows ppl fly with GREEN FLAG , as there is no kurdistan flag .

the most funny times was the time that barzani was annouced as president of kurdistan...Kurdsat didnt even give a shit about that , and they continued showing dances with GREEN FLAG for talibani's being president of iraq
and kurdistan TV showed 3 months of NON STOP dances with Yellow flags for barzani's being presdient..

and Roj TV is no better than them.thats right and we feel the lack of a national TV !

well my english is terrible, when I used national , I meant something which bleongs to all kurds [as a nation] not just to a party.

but I dont think bussiness men woulld ever think about something than Money ! and we wouldnt have a better TV than a Sex-Orianted Clip-full TV .

a bussines men would never send reporters to Rojhelat to see what happens there.

PDK Iran should have had their own TV but they don't seem very "modern" in their way of communication.
