Star Trek: fans happy as trailer
confirms return of Data and 7 of 9
Captain Jean-Luc Picard is back – and he’s bringing some Star Trek fan favourites along with him
The first trailer for spin-off show Picard dropped at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday, and bosses of the CBS show revealed that Brent Spiner as Data, Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh the Borg and Jonathan Frakes as Riker will all appear in the new series
The trailer also showed Star Trek: Voyager‘s Jeri Ryan will reprise her role as Seven Of Nine.
Data’s return has left fans over the moon, with one calling on Brent to share his secrets at not dropping spoilers with notorious spoiler-dropper Tom Holland.
‘Wow you are the master at not dropping spoilers! Give Tom Holland some lessons. Had no idea you were going to be in this. Even more excited now,’ shared one fan.
‘My heart is still pounding and I’ve watched that 3 times now,’ added another.
Other however couldn’t believe Jeri Ryan was back: ‘This looks awesome! Nice to see @BrentSpiner & @JeriLRyan back as well.’
After the debut of an official poster, showrunner Michael Chabon and executive producer Alex Kurtzman answered some questions lingering over the new series – which sees Stewart reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard following 2002 movie Star Trek: Nemesis.
Teasing the show last year, Stewart said: ‘He may not be a captain anymore.
‘He may not be the Jean Luc you recognise and know so well. It may be a very different individual, someone who has been changed by his experiences.’
He added: ‘It will be something, I guarantee it, something very, very different.’
Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Evan Evagora, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Isa Briones also star.
Star Trek: Picard will air on CBS: All Access in the US and Amazon Prime in the UK in 2020.
