Author Wins Hilde-Domin Prize
The Consulate General of Germany in Erbil on Thursday extended their congratulations to the celebrated author Bakhtyar Ali for being honored with the prestigious Hilde-Domin Prize for Literature in Exile
The consulate hailed Ali as a symbol of humanity, echoing the sentiments expressed by the prize jury, who lauded Ali for his exemplary contribution amidst global crises and conflicts.
Established in 1993 by the Hilde Domin Foundation for Literature and Exile, the Hilde Domin Prize recognizes writers living in or having experienced exile, showcasing their remarkable literary endeavors. Named after the renowned German-Jewish writer Hilde Domin, the award carries significant prestige and is accompanied by a monetary grant.
Bakhtyar Ali, a prominent figure in contemporary Kurdish literature, boasts an extensive literary repertoire comprising over 40 works of fiction, poetry, and critique, including a notable collection of 12 novels. His works have been translated into numerous languages, a feat uncommon among Kurdish writers. Notably, Ali's literary prowess was previously acknowledged in 2017 when he received the esteemed Nelly Sachs Prize, becoming the first non-European language author to achieve this honor.
