Kurdish Doc Takes Top Prize
The Kurdish documentary "The Land of Buried Women" has been honored with the Best Documentary Award at the fifth Ostia Film Festival in Rome, Italy
Didar Omer, the documentary's creator, expressed his happiness and gratitude to Kurdistan 24: “First of all, I congratulate the entire team of the film for winning the award for Best Documentary.”
“The documentary has been featured in various festivals across West Kurdistan, the United States, Russia, Italy, and Spain, achieving recognition and awards in most of them,” he added.
"The Land of Buried Women" portrays the poignant story of a man who has dedicated 13 years to tending a cemetery for unidentified murdered women. His roles as gravedigger, gardener, and caretaker illuminate the documentary's exploration of this haunting subject.
Written by Didar Omer Hamawandi and directed by Rekawt Hama Tofiq, the film has garnered acclaim at numerous international festivals, underscoring its impactful storytelling and emotional depth.
In addition to "The Land of Buried Women," other winners at the fifth Ostia Film Festival included "Sin Salida" for Feature Movies, "La Carezza" for Short Movies, "In Half" for Animated Movies, Irina Esterlis for Best Director with 'Redrum' from Russia, Minerva Casero for Best Actress in 'Sin Salida' from Argentina, and Mikahil Medalin for Best Actor in 'Third Stage of Separation' from Russia.
The Ostia Film Festival, held annually in Rome, Italy, celebrates a diverse range of cinematic achievements across categories such as Feature Movies, Short Movies, and Animated Movies. It serves as a platform for filmmakers worldwide to showcase their work and engage with global audiences.
