Kurdish Poet Hemin Mukriyani

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The 39th anniversary of the passing of acclaimed Kurdish poet Hemin Mukriyani was commemorated in Erbil on Wednesday, in a ceremony organized by the Media Development Organization in collaboration with the Cultural and Academic Center of Salahaddin University-Erbil

A delegation of artists and writers from Eastern Kurdistan, led by Salah Payaniani, manager of Hemin's home, traveled from Iran to take part in the event, underscoring the enduring cultural and literary ties among Kurdish communities across borders.

Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw welcomed the visiting delegation and praised the vital role that Kurdish artists and writers from Eastern Kurdistan have played in enriching Kurdish literature and preserving the nation’s cultural identity.

“I hope your time in Erbil will be peaceful and joyful,” Governor Khoshnaw said. “Your contributions to Kurdish art and literature are deeply valued, and I wish you success in honoring the memory of the great poet Hemin Mukriyani.”

The ceremony featured presentations and discussions on the literary legacy of Mukriyani, as well as reflections on the broader importance of supporting Kurdish artistic expression. Members of the visiting delegation also shared insights into their own creative works, calling for greater attention and support for Kurdish cultural endeavors across the region.

Hemin Mukriyani, born in 1921 in Mahabad, is widely regarded as one of the most influential modern Kurdish poets and intellectuals, known for his lyrical poetry and efforts to elevate Kurdish language and literature.
