because it was all preplanned . There is very little soldiers can/want/would do when ordered by their superiors to surrender and not fight .

Took on twitter :

Video report on a pro PKK TV ( don't know why there are some interruptions as advertisements but only music and images)

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=65 ... _video_set

about how Kurds control : Yarubiya (Syrian side) by YPG & Rabiaa (Iraqi side) by KRG Peshmerga.

The jour no is between Til Koçier (Rojava side) and Rabi'a (which is now a KRG city)

KRG Peshmergas from the 3rd Battalion 4th Sipahi units (from Dohuk) led by Commander Akit Nadir Xemo are the ones controlling Rabiaa. KRG's Sipahi units arrived at 5am. It seems that ISIS started attacks on Rabiaa at 4am, but held back by YPG until Peshmergas arrived. YPG in Til Kocer is led by commander Cemshid Osman (who captured Jazira canton).

ISIS have been pushed back enough to allow for a corridor thru the desert to the Yezidi city of Sinjar in the south.

The last interview is an YPG telling that they are ready to fight everywhere in KRG to protect the Kurdish people, that today shahid fall, not for rojava or KRG, but for all the people.

Personally, I doubt that YPG will be soon invited to fight within KRG, while KRG will probably never send Peshmergas to Rojava (not before a long time or if one of these parts were in a serious danger). But they can collaborate in a useful way to coordinate their actions, securing both sides of the border, and exchanging informations about ISIS moves.

Aiming at Baghdad, ISIS Continues Rapid Advance Against Collapsed Iraqi Army

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - For almost a week, Islamic militants have continued their attacks against Iraqi troops in all of the country’s Sunni areas. They have advanced with lightning speed, almost reaching the capital Baghdad from the north.

The initial assault that began in the city of Mosul on Saturday has now spread south to include Hawija, parts of Kirkuk, Tikrit and Samarra, all of them major Sunni cities.

Everywhere, the army has abandoned its positions without firing a shot. Iraqi highways are littered with burned vehicles; checkpoints are adorned with the black flags of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS); army uniforms thrown away by deserting soldiers lay scattered across fields and dirt roads.

I think you underestimate ISIS and their strategic capacity.

Honestly heval i see no difference between the iraqi army and the ISIS . Given the power and the chance they will do much worst than the ISIS and we all have seen what these animals are capable of doing in halabja and Anfal .

I wonder what Maliki's next move will be , because even the state of emergency that he declared has failed and no agreement have been reached . Actually sunni politicians are all leaving Baghdad according to the latest reports .

The army is done and If Maliki asks for help from Hizb allah or shia milias it will mean a full scale civil war between sunnas and shias which is precisely what ISIS want .

Many are hoping for US help which I believe will never come , because carpet bombing Mosul will never work and will only strengthen the sunnas

is it over for maliki or is there another move ?

I agree with you, and it's too late for foriegn assistance to Maliki, seems like everybody silently accepted this now, Iraq as we know is over.

But it's not over for Maliki, he is consolidating his support base in the Shia areas. Some are calling the Iraqi army cowards and so on, that maybe the case, but I will that many of those Shia soldiers will fight to the death in Najaf or Karbala.

Iran is heavily involved in all this behind the scenes, and they know what they are doing. Same strategy as in Syria, and it doesnt mean that they are going to war with ISIS. They have all (Sunni Shia Arabs, Iran, Turkey, and Assad) come to some sort of agreement. So the worries ISIS continually spreading in the region, is not yet founded, however possible.

The redrawing of Middle East map has begun. ISIS has helped Kurds in this way, by erasing the first line. I wish that Kurdish leaders take advantage of this situation. I was hoping for a surprise offensive towards the coastal areas, this is the best time to do it so far, and no one can react in time. The international cummunity is already stunned. The coastal mountainous areas West Efrin where full of Armenians and other Christians who have flead after the fighting started there, so they could be happy to work with Kurds.

Here's a video showing Kurdish armies fully controlling Tel Kocer border crossing on both sides the first time :)

The Economist

Two Arab countries fall apart

After four days of fighting, Iraq’s security forces abandoned their posts in Mosul as ISIS militiamen took over army bases, banks and government offices. The jihadists seized huge stores of American-supplied arms, ammunition and vehicles, apparently including six Black Hawk helicopters and 500 billion dinars ($430m) in freshly printed cash. Some 500,000 people fled in terror to areas beyond ISIS’s sway.

Run by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, an Iraqi jihadist, ISIS may have up to 6,000 fighters in Iraq and 3,000-5,000 in Syria, including perhaps 3,000 foreigners; nearly a thousand are reported to hail from Chechnya and perhaps 500 or so more from France, Britain and elsewhere in Europe.

Image
(I am certain the map has already changed)

Rather than fight simply as a branch of al-Qaeda (“the base” in Arabic), as it did before 2011, it has aimed to control territory, dispensing its own brand of justice and imposing its own moral code: no smoking, football, music, or unveiled women, for example. And it imposes taxes in the parts of Syria and Iraq it has conquered.

In other words, it is creating a proto-state on the ungoverned territory straddling the borderlands between Syria and Iraq. “This is a new, more dangerous strategy since 2011,” says Hassan Abu Haniyeh, a Jordanian expert on jihadist movements. If ISIS manages to hold onto its turf in Iraq, it will control an area the size of Jordan with roughly the same population (6m or so), stretching 500km from the countryside east of Aleppo in Syria into western Iraq.

Iraqi forces by numbers: who has the biggest army?

ISIS - Sunni fighters who want to create an Islamic state across Syria and Iraq

Up to 12,000 fighters

Mainly drawn from disaffected Iraqi Sunnis, who have rekindled the alliance with al-Qaeda which they formed in the US invasion.

Techniques honed during the US occupation.

Weapons including heavy machine guns and rocket propelled grenades - some left over from the Saddam era, others from new Iraqi government supplies

Peshmerga

Up to 190,000 fighters

An estimated 40 million Kurds live in bordering areas of Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran, where they have sporadically fought to establish a Kurdish state.

They are governed by Nechirvan Barzani, Kurdistan’s regional prime minister.

Mr Barzani criticised the government in Baghdad as Mosul fell, saying Nuri al-Maliki’s refusal to cooperate with the Peshmerga handed a victory to Islamist militants.

Weapons include US-supplied machine guns and Armoured Personnel Carriers.

Iraqi army HAD (before many ran away)

193,000 troops

Trained by the United States at a cost of nearly $25 billion, the army suffers from low morale. Its effectiveness is hurt by the view in Sunni areas that it represents the hostile interests of the Shia-led government.

The withdrawal of US support and trainers in 2011 severely hampered army development, and defections are rife.

Weapons are supplied by the US - in June Iraq was formally delivered the first of four F-16 jets, with the rest due to arrive by the end of the year. They are mainly land-based, with an estimated 336 tanks and 3,688 APCs.

ISIS have no interest in Najaf or Karbala and the last thing a shia soldier want is enter mosul or Tikret or samara . The problem is no matter what maliki's next move will be it will work against him .

1-Attack Mosul or Samara or Tikrit or falluja and he will be viewed as a villain and the sunnis will fight back which means a full scale civil war with no end . Remember that iraqi army failed over and over for over a year now to even take falluja back
2-Using Shia milias will work , but it means a civil war which is not a valid option and will take years which maliki does not have .
3-Air strikes will never work and carpet bombing will only create further resentment towards Maliki .
4-Kurds can not be used anymore considering his stupid actions in the recent years .

You know heval , the hilirious part of all this is that everybody getting what they really really really wanted =)) =)) .

The sunnis dream of uniting iraq and syria is coming to surface
Kurds dreams is coming true for obvious reasons
Turkey economic expansion dream is coming true
Iran's dream of uniting the shias are coming true
KSA and Qatar's dream of a sunni iraq is coming true

Yet everyone is complaining  , So you will be right to point a finger at any of the players above and you will be absolutely right .

I wounder where Maliki is right now. Rumors say that he has left the town :-D. Roj Nuri Shaweys called him earlier, and Maliki insist on only telephone conversations and no meetings. And of course they can not hold the parliament meeting, they are too scared to show up, if Mosul fall in one day, so could Baghdad.

And now , According to Rudaw on twitter, Kurdish PMs return to Kurdistan.

Something really really stinks about this. This is just not normal, not even for an incompetent goverment. The entire iraqi army retreats and puts up no fight(with the three heads of security and policiary forces running away), and now iraqi PMs don't show up for emergency meetings, when more than 1/3rd of the Iraqs territory is under ISIS control . It really sounds like a conspiracy if there ever was.

Edit: Apparently the Kurdish and Sunni Arab PMs did not show up.

It's probably an agreement between barzani-saudi-turkey, based on what I've read and heard. The country is bound for civil war. I feel sorry for PYD and all the innocents who will die. But it might turn on ISIS if the shiahs begin to mobilize. If ISIS attacks holy shrines, Iran and Shiah Iraqis will attack in full force. Iranian forces are already on the ground. Iranian special forces are coordinating with what's remaining of iraqi armed forces.
