Turkish Jets Bomb Makhmur Camp

Suspected Turkish fighter jets on Saturday evening bombed Camp Makhmur on the outskirts of Erbil city. No casualties have been reported yet

There are currently no reports of damage or casualty because of restricted access to the camp. Mayor of Makhmur Rzgar Mohamed has confirmed the bombing, according to Kurdistan 24.

The camp is inhabited by thousands of fans and family members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), and has been the target of multiple Turkish airstrikes in recent years.

In late August of this year, Makhmur camp was targeted by Turkish drones again, causing injuries to some residents in the camp.

On Sunday last week, a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of the national police headquarters in Ankara, leading to the deaths of two attackers and the injury of two police officers. Following the incident, the Kurdistan Workers' Party claimed responsibility, prompting Turkey to launch a series of airstrikes targeting PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region and neighboring Syria.

Over the course of four decades, Turkey and the PKK have engaged in a protracted armed conflict, which has had far-reaching consequences in various parts of the Kurdistan Region.

The PKK has established its presence in the challenging and rugged mountainous terrains of Kurdistan, making it a frequent target for Turkish airstrikes and artillery bombardments. This presence in the Region has resulted in a significant number of civilian casualties and forced many villagers to abandon their homes, leading to vast areas of agricultural land being deserted.

10 people detained in Yüksekova

In the district of Yüksekova in Hakkari province, numerous flats were stormed by the special operations police on Friday morning as part of the political campaign against the Kurdish population. Ten young people were taken into custody by the use of force and ill-treated in the police station. The traces of mistreatment have been medically certified

The parents of some of the victims described the police action to MA. Irfan Özeken reported that his son Vedat was thrown to the ground in front of him and his arm was broken. "My son screamed for help, but we were not allowed to approach him. When I tried anyway, I was also thrown on the floor and tied with my hands behind my back. They searched our flat for hours and threw everything around.

The women were forced to lie on the floor in their underwear and the policemen put their feet on their backs," said Irfan Özeken. The man said his son was finally dragged half-naked and barefoot to an armoured car while being beaten. "They wanted to take him to the police station in his underwear. Only after much pleading were we able to give him clothes," Özeken said and added: "What is being done to us is unbearable. It's enough, we don't want to be treated like this anymore. Let them kill us or finally leave us alone."

Barış Özçük's mother reported that during the police raid on her flat, the electricity supply was cut off and the door was blown open with a detonator. The woman said her son was sleeping in the living room, adding: "We didn't know what was going on. The police entered the flat and locked us in a room.

Three or four policemen jumped on my son's back, handcuffed him and beat him. Then they stripped him naked and doused him with cold water while they continued to beat him, and he screamed loudly. I have a heart condition and fell to the ground when the policemen kicked me. My husband was beaten several times with rifle stocks. Every policeman who passed my son kicked him. He had wounds all over his body."

The front door of the Koca family was also opened with a detonator. Father Nasrullah said the following about the arrest of his son Agit: "When we went downstairs, we saw that the front door and the flat door on the ground floor had been broken open. There was smoke everywhere after the explosion.

The policemen came in and immediately attacked us, hitting us with gun stocks and fists. When my disabled daughter came downstairs, they shot towards her feet. They almost killed all of us. All my children and I were beaten, especially my son. My daughter-in-law is pregnant. Who would have been held accountable if anything had happened to her or her baby?"

Another person detained is Bahtiyar Bor. When his cousin Serhat Aşkan asked for him at the police station, he was also taken into custody. His mother, Asya Aşkan, said she does not know the reason for the detention and also does not know what condition Serhat is in now.

162 PKK Fighters Neutralized

The Turkish defense ministry claimed on Monday that the security forces have "neutralized" at least 162 fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region and neighboring Syria since the recent suicide attack in Ankara

"A total of 194 targets were destroyed. As a result of our operations, 162 terrorists were neutralized," Anadolu Agency quoted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying after a cabinet meeting.

Türkiye will never allow the establishment of a terror corridor along its borders. It is Türkiye's legitimate right to continue its cross-border operations until it completely eliminates the PKK, with all its names and extensions."

A suicide bombing targeted Ankara's national police headquarters, resulting in the deaths of two assailants and injuries to two police officers. Following the incident, the PKK claimed responsibility, prompting Turkey to unleash a series of airstrikes aimed at the armed group’s positions in both the Kurdistan Region and neighboring Syria.

Over the span of four decades, Turkey and the PKK have been embroiled in a prolonged armed conflict, with wide-ranging consequences felt across different parts of the Kurdistan Region.

1,640 YPG/PKK neutralized

Turkey's National Defense Ministry has said its forces have "neutralized" hundreds of fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) over the past week alone.

"Türkiye has neutralized a total of 1,640 YPG/PKK terrorists since the beginning of this year, including those hiding out across the border in Iraq and northern Syria," state media Anadolu Agency reported this week, citing remarks from the country's Defense Ministry, adding "252 terrorists were neutralized last week."

Turkish officials use "neutralize" to imply either "kill or surrender" with regard to their military operations against the PKK and its affiliate groups.

According to the ministry's figures, in recent week alone "a total of 194 targets, including caves, shelters, facilities and warehouses used by terrorists were destroyed both in northern Iraq and Syria."
Turkey intensified its airstrikes on PKK positions in the Kurdistan Region and neighboring Syria after a suicide attack targeted Ankara's national police headquarters earlier this month.

A Turkish drone on Friday bombed Camp Makhmur on the outskirts of Erbil city, injuring at least seven camp residents.

For the past four decades, Turkey and the PKK have been engaged in a protracted armed conflict, which has had widespread consequences affecting various parts of the Kurdistan Region.

The PKK's presence in the Region has led to a substantial number of civilian casualties, the displacement of thousands of villagers from their homes, and the abandonment of many mountain resorts and extensive areas of agricultural land

26 detained in police attack

The Saturday Mothers, who have been taking to the streets for their relatives who have disappeared in state custody for decades, were attacked by the police again

The Saturday Mothers have once again been prevented by Turkish police from demonstrating in Galatasaray Square in Istanbul to draw attention to the fate of their relatives who disappeared in state custody and to demand punishment for the perpetrators. The women and their supporters were stopped on their way to their rally site, 26 people were detained and taken away with their hands tied behind their backs.

The Saturday Mothers were supported this week by well-known personalities, including lawyer Eren Keskin, the chairperson of the Human Rights Association (IHD), as well as the HEDEP (Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party) MPs Cengiz Çiçek, Celal Fırat and Özgül Saki, TIP (Workers’ Party of Turkey) MP Ahmet Şık and the former HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) MP Musa Piroğlu.

While journalists were forcibly pushed back, the police also tried to prevent HEDEP MP Özgül Saki from going to the encircled relatives of the disappeared. Saki protested against the unlawful action of the police and was only let through after she warned against criminal consequences.

Meanwhile, the demonstrating group threw carnations at the cordoned-off Galatasaray Square, vowing the continuation of the struggle for justice. Cengiz Çiçek, HEDEP MP and co-spokesperson of the HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress), protested against the unlawful police assault and said that the Saturday Mothers represent the conscience of society and their consistent resistance deserves great respect.

For over 28 years, the Saturday Mothers have been demanding information about their relatives who have disappeared in police custody. It is the longest-running civil disobedience action in Turkey, which began on 27 May 1995 with the sit-in by the family of Hasan Ocak, a teacher murdered by torture.

An estimated 17,000 people, including journalists, politicians and human rights activists, "disappeared" in Turkey in the 1980s and 1990s, mainly in the Kurdish regions. Often their bodies were dumped in secret mass graves on military bases, but also in rubbish dumps or in well shafts. Neither the police nor the judiciary have taken any measures to investigate the “unsolved murders”.

Since the 2013 resistance in Istanbul's Gezi Park, protests have been banned in the square in front of the Galatasaray High School. Only the Saturday Mothers were allowed to continue protesting here. But with the accusation of "closeness to the PKK", the initiative's 700th vigil was banned and violently dispersed on 25 August 2018. Since then, all protests in Galatasaray Square have been banned. But this is contrary to the right to freedom of assembly and demonstration, ruled the Turkish Constitutional Court on 22 February 2023, rejecting the ministry's objection that Saturday Mothers threatened the "protection of public order".

"Everyone has the right to take part in unarmed and peaceful assemblies and demonstrations without prior permission," says Article 34 of the Turkish Constitution, which the security authorities violated with their banning order for the forcibly dispersed Saturday Mothers' action in August 2018 and all subsequent ones.

The blockade of the square is thus invalid, according to the ruling of the constitutional complaint, with which Maside Ocak Kışlakçı was successful. However, the Turkish Interior Ministry and the Istanbul authorities ignore the ruling and have been violently attacking the Saturday Mothers and their supporters every week for months.

Four pro-Kurdish party arrested

A Turkish court on Wednesday charged four members and officials of two pro-Kurdish political parties for their alleged links with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) two days after they were arrested

Ali Gultepe, a senior member of the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) as well as the Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) member Cuneyt Yesilyurt and its regional officials Ridvan Ulasman and Niyazi Artun were arrested during police raids in Istanbul and Tekirdag provinces on Monday, reported Mezopotamya Agency, a pro-Kurdish media outlet, on Wednesday.

A court in Tekirdag ruled their official arrests after charging them with PKK membership, the news agency added.

The PKK is an armed group that NO LONGER represents Kurds in Turkey but is proscribed as a terrorist organization by Ankara

Turkish authorities have arrested thousands of Kurds, especially members of the HDP, for their alleged links with the PKK. Some Turkish officials have claimed that the HDP is the political wing of the PKK - an accusation the HDP has denied.

The HDP fielded candidates for the latest Turkish elections under a sister party following Turkish authorities took legal procedures to close it.

Its sister party, Green Left Party, recently changed its name to Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP).

13 youngsters detained in Amed

The Turkish regime continues its campaign against the Kurdish population

13 youngsters were taken into custody in Amed (Diyarbakır) on Friday in an operation conducted by police teams from Diyarbakır Security Directorate.

The operation was based on the allegations that a new youth organisation named “YNCK” would be established and carry out actions in the central Sur district on 29 October, the hundredth anniversary of the founding of the republic.

The detainees are accused of alleged membership in the organisation. They have been taken to the provincial police department.
