Could someone clarify ..

PostAuthor: Canuck » Fri Jul 30, 2010 9:29 am

Hello..

I am from Canada, and am trying to understand the military situation in Iraqi Kurdistan. I see on the news, and read online about the Turkish Military striking Kurdish bases and sending troops and armored vehicles.. Apparently to attack members of the PKK.
I have also read about the Pershmerga (is that correct?) which are supposed to be the decent sized and very capable military of Kurdistan. I found an article about a Military base, or at least training base in Zahko Kurdistan, which is on the Turkish border .. has it been attacked ?

What I cannot understand is are the Turks fighting only the PKK ? are they also attacking the Armed forces of Kurdistan ? Why has this not evolved into a major conflict ? From what I read of the Pershmerga, they are an experienced military force, which where able to keep Saddam's forces at bay..

Are the Pershmerga neutral in this conflict ? Why do they allow Turkish fighters to enter Iraqi Kurdistan ? do they back the Turks ? or the PKK ?

I have also read that the Syrians are now attacking the Kurdish people. Are they also sending forces into Iraqi Kurdistan ? or only on there own soil ?

It seems that the Kurdish people have been attacked by everyone around them.. Iran, Saddam's Iraq. I hope the day comes soon that the Kurdish people are able to live in peace..

If my questions offend anyone, please know that I am genuine in asking.. I really don't understand.

Welcome to our forum!

i think, my dear brothers will be able to answer your question profesionally, lets say. what i can tell you - turks hates kurdish people and they attack everything what is kurdish, specially civilians and kids, and it happened that they exterminated cats, coz it was kurdish breed - Kurdish Van Cat, they sentenced parrot for speaking kurdish language - things like happened in XXI century in Europe - so you can imagine what king of people they are. Persians, iranian also likes to murder our poeple, but they are leaders in killing journalists.
yes, all countries around Kurdistan are acting against us - coz they trying to keep our land in their hands and they are scared of us in fact (maybe except iraqi arabs - they already learned they have no chance with us).
so - thats from my emotional side and now my brothers can explain that to you from political side.

Thanks for the reply..

When I look at the news, which in North America is usually hand picked .. The PKK are mounting attacks.. In every report I have read, the attacks of late are against Turkish Military personnel. The PKK does not seem to be targeting civilians. If its a military conflict, and the PKK is a militia, then it is what it is.

I find the whole thing confusing. Turkey is attacking Kurdistan, which is legally part of Iraq, so where is Iraq in all this ? Where is the USA in all this ?

BROTHERS HELP!!!

Kurdistan - i mean Kurdish Autonomy, which in fact is within iraqi borders at the moment (hopefully not long ) has its own government and the law is also a bit different from Iraq (for example if European Union citizen wants to go to iraq needs visa, if wnats to go to kurdistan - doesnt need visa) - so in practice iraq has nothing to say.
PKK are a special military formation, operating in mountains area, trying to protect South Kurdistan (Kurdish Autonomy) from turkish army. PKK doesnt attack civilians, its not kurdish style of fighting. Only bastards attack civilians - like turkish army does and like saddam did before (for example in city of Halabja, where he killed more than 5000 people withing few hours with chemical weapon, most of them women and kids). PKK are trying to fight for Kurdistan (north territory, which is temporary under turkish control and within turkish boarders), they are trying to set kurdish land free.
if i will have a bit of free time, i will try to find good website for you to read how it really looks like.

Dear Canuck,

This is to add what dear Kulka said. PKK, North Kurdistan Liberation Army, is fighting Turkish Government on behalf of the people of North Kurdistan, which is under Turkish Occupation. These all came about because of historical coincidences Nazi Turks took over Turkey and denied Kurds existed. Once upon the time Turkish people were rulling half of the world. But after Nazi Turks under the leadership of Kemal Ataturk took over Turkey, they degraded Turkish people to become a cheap labour for Europe. They also denied the rights of Kurds. Turkish people couldn't do anything but eventually Kurds formed their own army, PKK, and started to fight back. The problem Nazi Turks still control Turkish Security Forces, which doesn't let changes to take place. The present Turkish elected government tries to improve things. They have established very good relationship with South Kurdistan and acknowledged they had not dealt with Kurdish cause correctly. Before even it was illegal to speak Kurdish. But now Kurdish allowed to be to be taught at schools, 24 hour official Kurdish tv made available. They have done some reforms but peanuts. That is why the fighting is still going on.
