The components of Kirkuk are insistent on holding to their previous attitudes towards the formation of the Tigris force, which was formed under the orders of the General Commander of the Armed Forces Nouri al-Maliki in August.
The Kurds and Turkmen insist on maintaining their previous statements as they reject the formation of the force and the Arabs support it.
The Kirkuk Provincial Council rejected the formation of the force by a majority of the votes at the beginning of last month, but the Arab members of the council boycotted the meeting and did not reject to the formation of the force.
Almas Fazil, a member of the KPC on behalf of the Kirkuk Brotherhood List told Kirkuk Now “We, the members of the KPC, have previously rejected the formation of the force and we support the governor’s statements, as there is no change in our attitude.”
Najmadin Karim, the governor of Kirkuk, had previously addressed the force as a violation of the Iraqi constitution and stated that they do not welcome the force and reject its formation.
“The force will be the source of conflicts and disputes if it is formed and ignoring the decision of the KPC,” Almas Fazil commented.
Rebwar Talabani, a deputy of the council stated “The force wants to form tensions and disputes.”
Despite the Turkmen rejecting the formation of the force in the KPC, their representative attended the parade of the Tigris operation held last week. There are also speculations that the position of the first deputy-commander of the Tigris operation is being given to the Turkmen and the second deputy-commander position to the Kurds.
Tahsin Kahiye, a Turkmen member in the KPC said “We, the Turkmen members of KPC, had expressed our statements and there is no change in our attitude.”
“We accept a force which is comprised of all the components of Kirkuk and it is ethnically balanced,” he commented.
Muhammad Khalil al-Jburi, a member of Arab Gathering stated “The force is not rejected by the all members of the KPC, as the Arabs totally support the force; the Turkmen neither reject nor support the formation of the force, and only the Kirkuk Brotherhood List have rejected the force.”
