Areas like Kirkuk and Khanaqin are red lines for Kurds, we dont can give up these areas. Look England and France divided our people 100 years ago and make us to stateless people, who are the minority in every state. And only because we are born as Kurds, we see only oppression and war from our neighbors and it's still continue.

The question is not, why this Towns and villages are so important for Kurds, The question is, why it is so important for Arabs? Arabs have 30 big states. South Kurdistan is small and surrounded by big hostile states. We dont have 30 states and International support, thats way every Towns and village is so important for us.

You forget that we Kurds must see every day how 80% of Kurdistan are under occupation of the facist state Turkey and Iran. In 100 years we kurds have nothink to be happy, and now we have south Kurdistan, our only hope for now and even big parts of south Kurdistan are under occupation, because Iraq dont let us to get freedom. Why they are so interest in occupying Kurdistan, I mean they have so much oil in south Iraq.

The only ones who need more ultra nationalist Kurds are the enemies of Kurdistan.

Ultra-nationalism is really just an irrational version of Nationalism. Though nationalism in the west is generally already seen as exteme, let alone ultra-nationalism, people would think your insane if you were to call yourself one.

Maliki pushed Kurds towards independence

ERBIL, May 10 (AKnews)- By objecting to Kurdish federalism, the Iraqi Prime Minister only pushes Kurds further forward towards unity and independence, said a Kurdish writer.

falakadin kakaiThe statement, by Falakaddin Kakayee, Kurdistan's former culture minister, appeared in his column in Khabat (Struggle) newspaper, which is linked to the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party.

"Kurdistan people do not easily unite for their fate unless the policy of someone like Maliki and his alike lead us to independence," Kakayee wrote.

He accused politicians such as Maliki of endeavoring to confiscate the achievements Kurds have obtained in such a way that Kurds are concerned over the "little federalism" they enjoy.

To prove his point, Kakayee referred to threats of cutting part of the Kurdistan budget, objections to hoisting Kurdish flags in the offices of the disputed Khanaqin city and the presence of Peshmarga in the territorially disputed areas between Erbil and Baghdad.

He exemplified one more instance: Maliki recently sent a delegation from the Shiite Endowment Office to register under their name the lands which belonged to Turkmans and the Sunni Endowment office in Kirkuk.

Kakayee believes the objections and excuses Maliki finds against Kurds can only help in unifying Kurds more.

He concludes his article saying "we do not unify for independence by ourselves, other people do this for us! Thank God one thousand times".

Maliki is indeed pushing kurds towards independence. The little fedarlism we have is constantly being opposed by chauvinist like al Maliki "wants to be king". If the kurds are happy and not marginalized then we have no problem being part of Iraq. Sadly chauvinist dont accept this and wants to be "kings" and make all the decisions by themselves.

damn all this talk, "he is pushing us here, pushing us there" as if we need an excuse to declare independence. Stop with all this talk and declare your state for gods sake.

We are trying being realistic here. If we have a decentralized state then there is no need for separation. Declaring independence will not be like a dinner, we might lose it all and alot of blood might be shed in the process. When we come to a point where al Maliki al saddami is making all the decisions then we will have a real reason to shed blood for independence.

A decentralized state? Where Kurds still have to call themselves Iraqi? play for the Iraqi national team? with no identity on the world maps?
Declaring a state will be like a Dinner just out of two facts. 1. Turkey doesnt care any more because they do have benefit from Kurdistan. 2. Maliki himself would love to see Kurdistan separated from rest of Iraq so he has no strong opposition any more. So for what are we still waiting for? That Turkey or Maliki declare a Kurdish state for us?

Lets enjoy the 17% a bit more to build more infrastructure with it then we divorce Iraq , so then we can use our oil on a modern army that will make all the al malikis dirty their holes.

Bro for the sake of realism. 17% is what we should get but when did we get so much :D ? We would get much more if we declare now independence and have more control of our own oil as we do already.

Those are great points my dear kurdistano and i agree with your descreption. When we are part of Iraq the chauvinist will use this pretexts to undermine us with their nonsense talk of "one Iraq" and fake "unity". If it were up to me i would have declared independence in 2003. We were sadly weak at the time and pressured from all directions to stay within Iraq with promises that were never realised. Now we are in a much stronger position with oil companies and alot of consulates and trained peshmerga. With these fact in mind we should declare independence soon, but you have to admit that alot of blood might be shed in the process if chauvinist like Maliki are in power with his latest moves in mind.
