Today is marked as the anniversary of Kurdish journalism. 115 years ago today, the first Kurdish newspaper was established. It was published by Badirxan and printed in Cairo, Egypt (which at the time was part of the greater Ottoman Empire).
Badirxan wrote in the editorial section of the first issue that "The Kurds are not aware of what is happening in the world and in their neighbourhood" and he went on to say "I have named it Kurdistan [….] I emphasises on the importance of education and science".
