Just to Remind Everyone

Image

During WW2 the Kiev government was a NAZI government that practiced some of the vilest atrocities know to mankind and as we know it still supports Nazism, having changed place/street names to those of Nazi heroes, it holds Nazi style youth groups, celebrates Nazi holidays and has used it's Nazis to attack the Donbass region for more than 10 years

The statue above is solid PROOF of the Donbass fight against the NAZIS in WW2

The statue commemorates the freedom of the Donbass from Nazi control

Trump's plan will soon end Ukraine war

Musk, whose pro-Trump super PAC contributed over $118 million to the 2024 campaign, has positioned himself as a leader in efforts to significantly reduce federal spending

Tech tycoon Elon Musk stated that the bloodshed in Ukraine will soon come to an end, crediting US President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed plan.

Trump’s team suggested freezing the war, establishing a demilitarized zone along the frontline, and providing Ukraine with new weapons, contingent upon Kiev agreeing not to join NATO for approximately 20 years,

“The senseless killing will end soon. Time is up for the warmonger profiteers,” Musk wrote on X, responding to a post about Trump's plan for Ukraine
This comes amid reports that Musk participated in a call between US President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the day after the presidential election, according to a source familiar with the matter as reported by CNN.

Another source mentioned that Trump was with Musk at Mar-a-Lago when Zelensky called to congratulate him. The conversation, described by someone briefed on the call, was positive and cordial. Trump placed the call on speaker, and Zelensky expressed gratitude to Musk for providing Starlink communications to Ukraine during its ongoing war with Russia. The call lasted around seven minutes, with no discussion of policy, CNN reported citing the same source.

Trump’s victory comes at a critical time for Kiev, as Russia continues to make advances in the eastern Donbass region.

During his presidential campaign, Trump expressed skepticism about ongoing US support for Kiev, as the war stretches into its third year. He has also hinted that the US might push Ukraine toward a fragile truce with Russia.

Musk, whose pro-Trump super PAC contributed over $118 million to the 2024 campaign, has positioned himself as a leader in efforts to significantly reduce federal spending. Despite this, he has benefitted from billions in federal contracts with NASA, the military, and other government agencies.

Musk’s involvement in Trump’s call with Zelensky raises questions about the role and influence he may have in the incoming administration.

The US Department of Defense announced on Friday that it will continue providing military aid to Ukraine until the end of President Joe Biden’s term, aiming to exhaust the remaining allocated funds for supplies before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office.

The White House is set to fast-track weapons deliveries to Ukraine, according to reports from Reuters and Politico on Wednesday. Citing unnamed US officials, the reports underscored concerns that, even with President Biden’s approval of further aid, the Pentagon could face delays in delivering the equipment, potentially taking months. This delay raises fears that the incoming president could halt the shipments at any time.

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said on Thursday that, despite some equipment being out of stock or requiring more time for delivery, the Defense Department anticipates that President-elect Trump will not block any aid packages already approved by President Biden.

She clarified that the Pentagon still has around $4 billion in military aid available for Ukraine through the previously committed Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) and about $2 billion through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).

“When it comes to presidential drawdown packages, some things can arrive within days and weeks. Some items in those packages take longer. It does matter on what’s available on our shelves,” Singh said.

Furthermore, Singh assured that military aid packages for Ukraine will continue to be dispatched in the coming weeks, stating, “You’re going to continue to see packages roll out before the end of this administration.”

When questioned about whether the Pentagon has sufficient weapons and equipment in stock to utilize the remaining allocated funds before January 20, Singh sidestepped, saying, “We’re always constantly backfilling and restocking our shelves.”

She declined to give specifics, adding, “I’m not going to get into an Excel spreadsheet of what we have on our shelves, but we’re committed to providing Ukraine what it needs, including that $4 billion in authority. We are going to use it, and the president has committed to that.”

Since February 2022, the US Congress has authorized over $174 billion in military and other forms of aid to support the war in Ukraine.

I imagine everyone has heard of the Berlin wall

The fact that the victors of WW2 took control of Germany

They then divided up Germany and different parts were controlled by different countries

I will not bore you with all the details as they have already been written about on this forum

Russia did a deal with America and NATO:

Russia agreed to pull out of Germany

In return America / NATO agreed that they
would not move an inch closer to Russia
As we know US/NATO did not keep up their part of the agreement

Fast forward to 2014 when there was an ILLEGAL military coup in Ukraine

The Donbass and Crimea refused to accept the illegal government

The Crimea immediately voted against being controlled by the illegal government and voted instead to join Russia as most of the inhabitants were ethnic Russians, spoke and read Russian and had a Russian culture

Even the non-Russians in Crimea voted in favour of joining Russia because they did not wish to be controlled by the illegal government

Sadly the Donbass became under attack from the illegal Kiev government

Donbass made many appeals to the international community for help

This lead to the Minsk agreements:

These agreements were to stop the fighting and granted Donbass autonomy

The agreements were signed by France, Germany and Russia and were accepted into INTERNATIONAL LAW by the UN

The UN offered NO protection from the years of ongoing attacks on Donbass by the Kiev NAZIS

Kremlin denies WashPo report that
Putin and Trump spoke on phone
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denies any phone conversation between Trump and Putin, describing the Washington Post report as completely untrue

The Kremlin denied Monday a report from US media claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump had discussed the Ukraine conflict during a phone call last week.

This comes after the Washington Post reported on Sunday that Trump spoke with Putin on Thursday, urging him not to escalate the situation in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists that the Washington Post report "is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it's just false information," adding that "there was no conversation."

"This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications," Peskov said.

The Washington Post's report stated that during the call, Trump reminded Putin of the United States' significant military presence in Europe.

According to sources quoted by the newspaper, Trump also expressed a desire for continued discussions aimed at reaching a "quick resolution" to the war in Ukraine.

During his campaign, Trump promised to bring an immediate end to the conflict, and sources indicated that he might support a deal allowing Russia to retain certain territories it has captured.

Trump briefly raised the issue of territorial concessions during the call, suggesting a willingness to negotiate Ukraine's contested regions, though specifics remain unconfirmed.

In turn, the Russian President has demanded Ukraine withdraw from swathes of eastern and southern territories as a precondition to peace talks.

No preparations underway for Putin's contacts with Western leaders

In response to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's comments on Sunday, in which he indicated that the "right time" for talks with Putin would come soon, Peskov stated that no preparations are being made for a phone conversation between Putin and Western leaders.

He added that Moscow has not received any signals suggesting such talks are imminent.

"There are no preparations underway right now, we have not received any signals," Peskov told reporters when asked whether preparations are underway for Putin’s negotiations with Scholz.

US rushing weapons to Ukraine
    before Trump takes office
President Biden's outgoing administration's drive to send billions of dollars in military weapons to Ukraine before leaving office is meeting huge logistical challenges, increasing concerns that the shipments may deplete already-stretched US stocks, sources told The Wall Street Journal

The difficulties highlight how much Donald Trump's victory has hampered the US-led drive to assist Ukraine, which has suffered significant losses against Russia.

Over $7 billion in drawdown authorization, which allows the Pentagon to send weapons and ammunition to Ukraine from its stockpile, remains unspent, as does more than $2 billion to support long-term equipment contracts for Kiev.

Biden administration officials are concerned that Trump's administration may reduce Ukraine's armament supplies to bring Kiev and Moscow to the bargaining table, as he has promised to end the war
Before the election, the administration planned to provide the remaining aid to Ukraine by April, according to a Pentagon official.

Pentagon is sending over 500 interceptors for the Patriot missile defense system and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System, or NASAMS, to Ukraine, with delivery expected in the coming weeks, according to a senior administration official.

In addition, a "small number of contractors" will be deployed to assist in repairing and maintaining F-16s and other equipment, according to a Pentagon official. The Biden administration opposed such a step in August, but since then, additional systems have become unworkable due to a shortage of competent staff to fix or maintain them.

Weapons supplies to Ukraine generally take weeks, if not months, and the impact of the expected increase in weapons exports on US military inventories, notably air defenses, is "a big concern," according to another senior US source. The United States is considering measures such as purchasing back weapons from other nations to send to Ukraine, according to a senior US official.

While Ukrainian officials have asked for more Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to strike Russian sites up to 200 kilometers beyond the front lines, the Pentagon has been hesitant, noting Russia's relocation of important installations out of range.

The Biden administration also restricts Ukraine's employment of these weapons, preventing strikes on Russian territory. Recently, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin declined Ukrainian President Zelensky's request to prioritize ATACMS delivery above other overseas buyers, saying it was "a lot to ask" from other customers.

A new version of the ATACMS, known as the Precision Strike Missile, is in production, but it will take years to create enough to replace the current system. Meanwhile, the US is pressing allies to deploy weapons from their stockpiles to Ukraine, particularly air-launched weapons for F-16s.

To assist Ukraine's air defense, the US has sent AGM-88E anti-radiation missiles, improved air-to-air missiles, and Joint Direct Attack Munition kits for converting unguided bombs into precision-guided munitions.

US military and intelligence officials believe the war in Ukraine is “no longer a stalemate” due to Russia’s recent gains on the battlefield, The New York Times (NYT) reported last Friday.

The report described Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as appearing “worn and stressed,” concerned not only about setbacks on the battlefield but also about the results of the US elections, during a meeting with American officials in Kiev last week.

Ukrainian troops, the report added, are contending with low morale, limited reinforcements, and an inability to match Russian firepower.

An unnamed Ukrainian major stationed near Russia’s Kursk Region told the NYT that Ukrainian forces are “constantly losing previously occupied positions,” with Russian forces enjoying an advantage in manpower and artillery.

Despite these challenges, US officials believe that Ukrainians might capitalize on “Russia’s weaknesses” if American support “remains strong until next summer,” the report pointed out.

Russian forces have steadily advanced in recent months, capturing the heavily fortified town of Ugledar in the Donbass region early last month. Moscow has also intensified its offensive to push Ukrainian units back from the Kursk Region, which was targeted in an incursion in August.

Zelensky has expressed increasing concern over the war's trajectory, acknowledging earlier this year that Kiev has effectively become “a hostage” to the volatile US election cycle. In July, he called on Ukraine's foreign allies to intensify their support to help bring the conflict to a close “as soon as possible.”

It's notable that the incoming US President has frequently referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “the greatest salesman on Earth,” emphasizing throughout his campaign that he could end the Ukraine war within 24 hours if re-elected.

Trump has consistently argued that Ukraine is incapable of achieving a military victory over Russia, positioning himself as a potential peacemaker capable of swiftly resolving the conflict.

Pentagon warning to Ukraine on corruption

A new Pentagon report highlights ongoing corruption within Ukraine's military and government, with allegations of stolen funds and mismanaged aid

In a quarterly report to Congress released this week, the Pentagon's Inspector General Robert Storch stated that "corruption continues to complicate Ukraine's efforts to achieve its EU and NATO aspirations," citing the country's military as a "key player" in such scandals.

"Judges, politicians, and officials have been charged with corruption, and the Ministry of Defense has been a key player in many corruption scandals," the report noted, citing data from the US State Department and media sources
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) reported uncovering a corruption network inside the defense ministry early this year when five individuals attempted to steal 1.5 billion hryvnia (about $39.6 million) in state cash earmarked for mortar shell purchases.

Aleksey Reznikov, the Defense Minister, was fired some months ago due to graft charges. His replacement, Rustem Umerov, stated in January that an audit found $262 million in theft-related charges in weapons purchases. A US intelligence officer informed writer Seymour Hersh last year that Umerov is "even more corrupt" than his predecessor.

Millions diverted to fake businesses

In May, Ukrainian media revealed a scheme in which officials in Kharkov diverted millions of euros to fake businesses for non-existent building materials, leaving the area undefended when Russian forces arrived.

The report echoes the claims of a Ukrainian general who last month warned that the Ukrainian armed forces are unable to respond quickly to changing battlefield conditions due to bureaucracy and corruption in their logistics.

General Dmitry Marchenko revealed in an interview that adaptability is a crucial prerequisite for a modern military, and Kiev's force lacks it - but not because of the troops. "Unfortunately, our bureaucracy, our corruption, do not allow us to adapt and quickly produce what we need," he remarked, referring to Ukraine's military sector.

The US has committed $182 billion in aid to Ukraine, with $86.7 billion already spent. However, a Pentagon audit revealed that $1.1 billion in military aid was poorly accounted for, with funds spent on "unrelated" projects in Europe.

The Pentagon last week reported that US President Joe Biden's government is to provide an additional $6 billion in aid to Ukraine before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.

“President Biden has committed to making sure that every dollar we have at our disposal will be pushed out the door between now and January 20,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters on Wednesday.

Biden administration officials are concerned that Trump's administration may reduce Ukraine's armament supplies to bring Kiev and Moscow to the bargaining table, as he has promised to end the war.

Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office, stated on Monday that Kiev's Western allies may be using corruption concerns as a pretext to delay Ukraine's invitation to join the alliance.

"We speak sincerely to all partners. Corruption exists in all countries," Yermak said in an interview with Ukraine's 1+1 broadcaster. "If someone tells us we cannot get an invitation to NATO because of the level of corruption in Ukraine, then they are looking for reasons not to do it."

For months, Ukraine has voiced frustrations over delays in its bid to join NATO, a goal it considers essential for its security amid the war in Ukraine.

While reports of corruption in Ukraine, particularly within the military, have been regularly documented, Ukrainian officials argue that these issues should not impede their NATO aspirations.

An April poll by Ukrainska Pravda indicated that more than half of Ukrainians view corruption as a significant barrier to the country's development, thus reflecting the public's awareness of the issue.

Implications of strike inside Russia?

The US decision is said to be a response to Russia's escalation, particularly the reported deployment of DPRK troops to Kursk—a claim for which Western officials have yet to present concrete evidence

France and the United States have signaled a significant shift in the Ukraine war, granting Kiev permission to strike deep into Russian territory with advanced missiles.

French Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed on Monday that France remains open to allowing Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian military targets, stating, "We openly said this was an option... to strike a target from where Russia is currently aggressing Ukrainian territory."

This position aligns with the US decision to permit the use of US-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) inside Russia.

Biden greenlights ATACMS

According to an analysis by CNN, the Biden administration's approval of Ukraine's use of ATACMS marks a significant reversal of its earlier hesitation, following a familiar pattern of initial reluctance to grant Kiev's requests for advanced weaponry, such as HIMARS, Abrams tanks, and F-16s.

While this decision enhances Ukraine's military capabilities, analysts suggest it is unlikely to be a game-changer due to the limited supply of ATACMS and their relatively short range compared to Russia’s vast geographical expanse.

The missiles, with a maximum range of 300 kilometers (190 miles), are expected to target high-value Russian military sites. Reports indicate that Russian airfields within range of these missiles have already relocated attack aircraft further inside Russian territory.

Despite these new capabilities, Ukraine has demonstrated its ability to penetrate Russian defenses with domestically produced drones, which have caused significant disruption at Moscow’s airports and within its energy infrastructure, the analysis notes.

However, the report overlooks significant internal challenges facing Ukraine, such as troop shortages and corruption scandals within its military and government. Speaking to Ukrainskoye Radio on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged the strain on exhausted brigades at the frontlines and the difficulties in mobilizing adequately trained reinforcements.

“We have not mobilized enough troops,” Zelensky admitted, referencing two laws enacted earlier this year aimed at addressing these deficiencies.

Escalation and Global Implications

The US decision is said to be a response to Russia's escalation, particularly the reported deployment of DPRK troops to Kursk—a claim for which Western officials have yet to present concrete evidence.

Given the pronounced bias in much of the Western media's coverage, such reports are likely to be fabrications or exaggerated narratives designed to justify escalatory measures. Nonetheless, the Biden administration has framed this "move" as an escalation warranting a proportional response
While Kiev has welcomed the decision, concerns persist about provoking a retaliatory response from Moscow.

The CNN analysis highlights the potential for Russia to restore its deterrence through sabotage or attacks on civilian infrastructure in Europe. However, recent reports of explosive packages planted on European courier planes further illustrate how such narratives can sometimes serve to amplify fears, despite the absence of conclusive evidence.

A War Trump Will Inherit

According to CNN, the timing of these decisions—just before President-elect Donald Trump takes office—adds complexity to the geopolitical challenges he will inherit.

While Trump has expressed an interest in negotiating peace, the conflict has entered a new phase marked by deeper US involvement and significantly heightened stakes.

Ukraine strike on civilian building

The "massive" attack occurred approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the frontier

During a televised government meeting on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed increased "destruction" against Ukraine, a day after a drone strike targeted a luxury apartment block in the Russian city of Kazan, far from the frontlines, causing damage but no casualties.

The "massive" attack occurred approximately 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from the frontier, with dramatic footage circulating on Russian social media showing drones striking the glass façade of the building.

"Whoever, and however much they try to destroy, they will face many times more destruction themselves and will regret what they are trying to do in our country," Putin said.

During a road-opening ceremony via video link with the local leader of Tatarstan, the region where Kazan is located, Putin addressed the strike, which marked the latest in a series of escalating aerial attacks in the nearly three-year conflict.

Ukraine has yet to comment on the attack.

The strike comes in light of rapid Russian advances in eastern Ukraine.

Russia has intensified its territorial gains, aiming to secure as much ground as possible before US President-elect Donald Trump, who has pledged to quickly end the conflict without detailing a plan, takes office.

Putin has previously warned that Ukraine’s decision-making centers, including key military and industrial facilities, could be targeted by Russia’s newest Oreshnik hypersonic missile system if the intensity of the conflict escalates.

Speaking at the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Summit in November, Putin described the Oreshnik system as capable of delivering non-nuclear strikes with destructive power comparable to a nuclear attack but without environmental contamination.

"If you use several such systems in one strike at once—two, three, or four systems—it will be comparable in strength to a nuclear strike," Putin told reporters.

"But it is not nuclear because it is highly accurate and not equipped with a nuclear explosive device. It does not contaminate the environment."

Slovakia could host peace talks with Ukraine

Russia is open to Slovakia's proposal to host peace talks with Ukraine aimed at ending the conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed on Thursday

Putin, who hosted Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico in the Kremlin earlier this week, revealed that Fico, a vocal critic of European Union military support for Ukraine, had suggested Slovakia as a potential venue for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

The Russian President said the Slovakian authorities "...would be happy to provide their own country as a platform for negotiations. We are not opposed, if it comes to that. Why not? Since Slovakia takes such a neutral position."

Slovakia is seen as one of a growing camp of central and eastern European EU member states that are skeptical of support for Ukraine, and supportive of negotiations with Russia.

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar stated that Slovakia has long advocated for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, calling Putin's remarks a "positive signal" for ending the war.

Blanar said in a statement released on Thursday that "Slovak diplomacy is prepared to actively contribute to the peace process in this way and we have also communicated this option to the Ukrainian partners" during a joint cabinet meeting in October.

The Ukraine crisis cannot be resolved in isolation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov asserted on Wednesday, stressing that it should be addressed as part of broader peace and security arrangements in Europe.

"We have had no illusions and do not have any illusions regarding the prospects for an easy resolution of the Ukrainian crisis," Lavrov said in an interview for the Rossiya-1 TV channel, adding that any solutions Russian President Vladimir Putin presented as part of peace negotiations stem from international law and thus should not be regarded as "preconditions".

On Thursday, Lavrov explained that reaching a truce in the Ukrainian conflict is a path to nowhere, pointing out that Russia will not be satisfied with idle talks about a settlement.

"We cannot be satisfied with an idle talks. So far, all we hear is talk about the need to come up with some kind of truce... A truce is a path to nowhere, we need final legal agreements that will fix all the conditions for ensuring the security of Russia and the legitimate security interests of our neighbors, but in a context that will consolidate in an international legal way the impossibility of violating these agreements," the top Russian diplomat said.

Ukraine may lose Kursk territories

US officials suggest that Ukraine may wind up losing the territories it had gained in Kursk within months

Ukraine's ability to maintain control over seized territory in Russia's Kursk region is likely limited to several months, a Bloomberg report said Friday, citing unnamed US officials as heightened tensions signal potential Russian countermeasures.

US sources suggested that Ukrainian troops might be able to hold the territory only until spring, should Russia initiate a concentrated effort to reclaim the region. Such an operation could begin as early as January, they indicated.

One official noted that Kiev's objectives in the Kursk incursion were primarily symbolic, aimed at shocking Russia and dispersing its forces. A potential Ukrainian retreat, they argued, could still be framed as a strategic achievement.

On the other hand, other officials expressed concern over the risks of sustaining heavy casualties. They hope Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would consider withdrawing forces from Russian territory to mitigate losses.

The war has significantly strained prospects for peace talks. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in June that Moscow would cease fire and engage in negotiations if Ukraine withdrew troops from regions Russia claims as its own and renounced NATO ambitions.

Back in November, a senior Ukrainian military source told Reuters that over 40% of the territory Ukraine seized in Russia's Kursk region during a surprise August incursion has been lost amid intensified Russian counterattacks.

Ukrainian forces, which initially controlled 1,376 km², now hold approximately 800 km² as Russia reinforces its defenses with tens of thousands of troops, according to Reuters.

"At most, we controlled about 1,376 km² (531 mi²), now of course this territory is smaller. The enemy is increasing its counterattacks," the source said.

"Now we control approximately 800 km² (309 mi²). We will hold this territory for as long as is militarily appropriate."

This comes amid intensified combat along the frontlines as both Russia and Ukraine brace for potential shifts in US policy under the upcoming administration, which could significantly impact the course of the war.

Kursk was initially seized by Ukrainian forces in a surprise offensive in August, marking the first ground invasion of Russian territory by a foreign power since WWII.

That would be the same Kursk that voted to break away from Kiev government after being under attack from them for about 10 years

Downward spiral of Ukraine will continue

Throughout 2024, Ukraine and its armed forces have been shaken by corruption scandals, primarily related to orders of military supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) but also related to the embezzlement of funds which Western countries provided for the functioning of the Ukrainian state

2024 was a year that shook the ultra-nationalist government and armed forces of Ukraine to their foundations. The year's end is a timely moment to look back at what has taken place and look forward to what 2025 may bring.

Ukraine lost hundreds more square kilometers of territory in 2024, primarily in Donetsk in the Donbass region. The rate of advancement of Russian troops in 2024 has noticeably increased compared to 2023. On average, the Russian Federation Armed Forces is assuming control of some 22 square kilometers of territory across Donbass each day, gradually stretching into more territory in the Donbass.

Most tragically, 2024 has seen the loss of countless Ukrainian lives--many tens of thousands if not more, and even higher numbers of wounded. They died or have been wounded in a pointless military conflict with Russia that has nothing to do with protecting Ukraine or its people. This has been a war fought in the interests of Western capital and it has utterly ruined the Ukraine republic that emerged from Soviet Ukraine in 1990-91.

Donbass became a center of resistance to the far-right coup that took place in Kiev, Ukraine in February 2014. The region was invaded two months later in a failed attempt to crush anti-coup resistance. The invasion was spearheaded by far-right Ukraine paramilitaries, while the Ukraine army was simultaneously undergoing a complete overhaul and transformation to bring it into line with the far-right politics of the coup
That invasion and the war it sparked was supposed to end according to the 'Minsk-2' peace agreement of February 2015. The agreement between the coup governing regime and the newly created, popular defense forces provided for political and cultural autonomy within Ukraine for what was becoming the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics.

Minsk-2 was endorsed by Russia, Germany, and France, and then endorsed by no less than the UN Security Council on February 17, 2025. But Ukraine and its Western sponsors, notably the U.S., Britain, France and Germany betrayed Minsk 2. Instead, the coup regime embarked on building the heavy fortifications which Russia is today attacking and overrunning
2024 is the third year of formal, military/civilian dictatorship in Ukraine. Martial law was declared in February 2022, while presidential and legislative elections that should have taken place in April 2024 according to the Ukraine constitution were simply cancelled.

Corruption scandals overwhelm the Ukraine armed forces

Throughout the year, Ukraine and its armed forces have been shaken by corruption scandals, primarily related to orders of military supplies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) but also related to the embezzlement of funds which Western countries provided for the functioning of the Ukrainian state. These funds are consumed by the state and government apparatuses, often for personal enrichment. This has become standard in the Western countries' funding and overseeing of the Ukrainian state and government.

Since the beginning of 2024, the average salary of Ukrainian officials has increased by 20,000 hryvnia (US$500) to an annual average of 58,000 (US$14,000). The salary of even a small official exceeds the average salary in the country by more than three times. For those not so fortunate as to hold a government job or post, salaries and pensions have not only been frozen but have been outright reduced in Ukraine in 2024 due to tax increases and military levies.

Contested numbers of Ukraine's armed forces

As of January 1, 2024, 169,000 people were working at 108 civil state authorities in Ukraine. Police agencies and the salaried officers and soldiers in the armed forces bring the number of paid state employees to more than one million. Zelensky states that the number of Ukrainian soldiers killed in action is 41,000. Yet, in 2022, Ukrainian officials said the country's armed forces stood at more than one million personnel, and a far-reaching military conscription has taken place ever since then, with all military leaves routinely refused. So there should be something like two million personnel in the Ukraine armed forces if we believe Zelensky's data. This begs the question: where are the missing one million?

The tactics of the Ukrainian army have not changed despite its mounting military setbacks. This is still a war being waged by the Ukrainian command at the expense of its soldiers who continue to be forcibly conscripted to replace the dead and wounded. But even forced conscription, which sees hundreds of men, sometimes more, seized daily from the streets of their towns, villages, and cities, cannot adequately replace the grim, daily losses, say military commanders. This has led Ukraine's Western sponsors to make highly provocative and controversial calls for the age of conscription to be lowered from 25 to 18. The issue is so red-hot that Volodymyr Zelensky has to date declined to endorse the call, saying that more supplies of weaponry from the West should come first.

Here in the third year of war, Ukraine is still fighting with a larger army numerically compared to the Russian armed forces, yet it is the latter which is steadily advancing.

Ukrainian authorities are claiming that the personnel of its armed forces today amount to more than one million people. The Ukrainian online daily Strana reported on December 12 that according to various sources, the number of Russian troops directly engaged in the war ranges from 550,000 soldiers and support personnel (according to Ukrainian intelligence) to 800,000 (the figure recently cited by Volodomyr Zelensky). Vladimir Putin says 700,000.

Pervasive corruption of the Ukraine armed forces

One of the reasons for the shortage of Ukrainian troops, in spite of conscription, is the pervasive corruption that everywhere affects its operations. For a certain amount of money, Ukrainian military personnel and even entire units can evade combat operations and instead be assigned to support duties in the rear.

Strana writes on December 14: "Corruption in the AFU is no longer just 'corruption', it is a disaster. If you have money and no desire to go to the front, you can buy your way out. Money can buy you the option at any level of serving in rear areas. It can cost up to US$5000 [equivalent] or sometimes less, depending on the deal you make. This is not systemic corruption, it is grassroots corruption. It is decided at the level of individual commanders and 'the phenomenon is everywhere', says a source in the Ministry of Defense."

Legislator Anna Skorokhod spoke out on Telegram in early December against the practices of military commanders of demanding bribes in exchange for avoiding front-line duty. "I get two or three complaints each day about commanders of platoons, companies and brigades demanding money from their subordinates for favored treatment. Earlier, the sums were up to 5,000 hryvnias (US$125); now they are five times that amount. If you don't pay, then it is off to the front for you, and in the most dangerous positions. Once there, you will stay there or never return."

Skorokhod cited the several investigative commissions that have been struck to protect individual soldiers from physical abuse or extortion, but this work remains unreported.

Abuse and even torture of Ukraine soldiers

Ukrainian military personnel are also being used by commanders as modern slaves for personal gain. On December 17, Strana reported the case of four soldiers supposedly assigned to the combat zone in the Nikolaev region and receiving salaries and special combat payments, who had instead been assigned to build a new house for their commander.

In December, the Ukrainian army was rocked by a new scandal, this one involving torture by an officer against a subordinate. Commanders of the 211th Pontoon and Bridge Brigade of AFU support forces were extracting money from soldiers who had been caught drinking alcohol and committing other violations. Those who refused to pay were beaten and placed in cages, reports Ukrainska Pravda on December 16.

One of the soldiers says he was beaten and then tied to a wooden cross. His commander committed a public relations disaster by posing in a photo of himself kneeling in front of the soldier tied to a cross. The soldier's head is slumped onto his chest.

Strana reports that this was not an isolated case. Military officers say that systems of extortion exist in all military units. "Unit commanders extort and steal money from their subordinates through the so-called 'common funds'. Ukrainian military officers have told Ukrainian journalists that in all units, money is collected monthly from all soldiers for what is termed a 'common fund'. Some officers have acknowledged that if a soldier does not wish to be assigned to the front lines on a combat assignment, he can pay to avoid it. Depending on the unit, this can cost from 10,000 to 20,000 hryvnias (US$250 to US$500).

NATO military standards in action, mass desertions

Kiev authorities have been saying since 2014 that they are switching to 'NATO military standards'. The results have become disturbingly evident. The photo of the Ukrainian soldier tied to a cross by his commander has gone viral. For many citizens of Ukraine, the country has become a symbol of visibly depraved NATO standards. The Ukrainian military has become like the American military whose soldiers were caught on camera in 2004 torturing prisoners in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Those images dealt a lasting blow to the image and reputation of the US military.

Toward the end of December, the Ukrainian media reported that the 'Anna of Kyiv' brigade which had been trained and armed for a long time in France and then thrown into a difficult section of the front is almost completely dispersed. According to journalist Yuriy Butusov, editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian publication Censor, the brigade was initially formed of several thousand, forcibly recruited men. They were poorly trained, dressed in uniforms, and then declared to be a full-fledged brigade. Once arrived at the front and facing combat conditions, more than 1,000 of them immediately deserted and headed home.

A Ukrainian commander told the Polish publication Wiadomosci in December that there are sometimes more deserters than killed and wounded in the AFU following action. He says the mass desertions are caused by poor training as well as inexperience in combat situations. New recruits will often run away the first time they experience shelling.

The Ukrainian Telegram channel 'Rubicon' comments on the mass desertions and cases of abuse taking place in the Ukrainian army. It writes, "Something similar took place in the history of World War I when in 1917, after the February Revolution, soldiers of the former Russian Imperial Army began to quit the front 'in all directions' on a mass scale. One of the arguments at the time by deserters and the numerous political agitators for desertion among the soldier ranks were stories similar to today of systematic beatings of soldiers by officers.”

Violence and humiliation faced by the Ukrainians who are forced to fight for the interests of the West is also one of the reasons why many are actually defecting to the Russian army. Ukrainian security services almost daily initiate criminal cases on such grounds, such as the following, "A resident of the Kiev region killed two Ukrainian soldiers, burned a pickup truck, defected to the Russians, and now fights in Russia's 'Maksym Kryvonis' unit. This unit is formed of Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered. It is named after the famous peasant insurgent several centuries ago who fought against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth domination of the lands to later become Ukraine.

Growing numbers of Ukrainians are moving to Russia

It is not only military recruits but also thousands of civilians who are switching sides. In late November, legislator Maxim Tkachenko of Zelensky's 'Servants of the People' party-machine wrote on Telegram that about 150,000 internally displaced persons in Ukraine have decided to return and live in the 'occupied territories' (as the majority-ethnic Russia territories that have come under the control of the Russian Federation are called by Ukraine leaders). He estimates that 70,000 of those have returned to the city of Mariupol on the Black Sea coast, which was heavily damaged by the resistance of heavily entrenched Ukrainian far-right paramilitaries in the beginning months of the war. Mariupol has been undergoing major reconstruction and renewal for more than two years now.

According to Tkachenko, those who left Ukraine did so because they were not receiving proper assistance from the Ukrainian state –"not with housing, social supports, employment or compensation for lost property and belongings".

The figure of 150,000 internally displaced is relatively small, considering the population of Ukraine which was 35 to 40 million at the outset of war; (there has been no census taken in Ukraine for some 25 years). But that can be explained by the fact that men between the ages of 18 and 60 and women with medical or military-related education are prohibited by law from leaving the country. Entering the Russian Federation is extremely difficult for Ukrainians because there is only one airport to serve them - Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport – and only passenger planes from Asia and Africa can fly into it due to Western sanctions against travel to Russia.

On the other, western side of Ukraine, hundreds of thousands of citizens have left for countries of the European Union. Those prohibited from leaving legally do so illegally by crossing the border using secondary roads and mountain trails or by risking border-river crossings.

Once landed in Europe, Ukrainians can fly to Sheremetyevo airport via Istanbul, Turkiye. But once there, they can wait days before receiving permission to enter the Russian Federation, perhaps even to return to their home, former Ukraine, territories. That is very risky because fighting there may still be ongoing and the territory itself may be strewn with mines.

At, Sheremetyevo, the backgrounds of Ukrainians are closely checked for past involvement with Ukrainian police services or armed forces. The process can last several days. Strana writes on Telegram on November 25 that not all of those who arrive at Sheremetyevo are accepted. Those who are rejected face years of exclusion from the Russian Federation before they can apply again. Strana says accurate reporting of rates of acceptance and rejection are difficult if not impossible to accurately state, but if not for screening at the airport and its accompanying risk of rejection, the figure of 150,000 Ukrainians entering Russia would be much greater.

Ukrainian legislator Oleksandr Dubinsky, formerly of Zelensky's party-machine, predicted in late December that people will start fleeing Ukraine en masse once the country's borders are reopened. "Hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, will leave Ukraine. The concentration camp into which Zelensky has turned Ukraine will have little or nothing to offer to its citizens to encourage them to stay. "He uses the analogy of a parasite growing on the tree called Ukraine to describe the Zelensky administration and adds that the rump state of Ukraine that will emerge from the war is doomed to underdevelopment and failure so long as it defines itself as an 'anti-Russia'.

Meltdown of Zelensky's public image

Neither presidential nor legislative elections took place in Ukraine in 2024, as required by the constitution. The pretext for this was the state of martial law declared in February 2022. The Zelensky administration intends to prolong the military conflict and accompanying martial law until such time as a mythical 'defeat' of the Russian armed forces takes place. But this is now impossible to achieve with a Ukrainian army consisting of forcibly conscripted soldiers, many reduced to something resembling modern slaves.

"Real peace talks will begin when the Russian Federation no longer has the resources to continue the war," opined Andriy Yermak on December 17, emphasizing that Ukraine must preserve its military force until then. He is the director of the Office of the President of Ukraine since 2020 and makes it obvious that Zelensky and his administration intend to stay in power come hell or high water.

The end of 2024 will be viewed by historians as the beginning of the final decomposition of the image of heroism being projected by the Zelensky administration and its Western media cheerleaders. This decomposition is sharply intensifying in the public consciousness of Ukrainians, notwithstanding local and Western media efforts to portray the opposite. The former comic actor Zelensky is returning to his earlier television role and image as a clown, but this time around it is a clown clinging to power and ready to sacrifice so many more Ukrainian lives to that end.

Ukrainians are already joking that Donald Trump will be handed the remote control of Zelensky on January 20, after which the Ukrainian president may begin to sing a different tune, depending on the course the new US administration chooses.

A certain role in the decomposition of Zelensky's image is his inability to stick to the same messaging for the Ukrainian and the Western public. In Ukraine, he poses as a heroic and victorious military leader. But in the West, he appears as a beggar, pleading for ever-more money while decrying crimes said to be perpetrated by Russia and its armed forces. Puffing up his cheeks, he assures Ukrainians that his administration and its military are 'invincible'. But in the West, he begs for money and arms, and in return, he offers up to Western investors the mineral deposits in the Ukrainian subsoil and the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. Such dual behavior could work if the Ukrainian audience was completely cut off from the Internet and from Western media sources. But that harkens back to a different, earlier world, not the world of the 21st century.

Zelensky is already being openly mocked by his former party colleagues, other Ukrainian nationalists, and members of the military. This is due to nervousness over the coming change of administration in the United States and possible change of administration in Ukraine itself.

In 1917, between the two Russian revolutions of February and October that year, the image of Alexander Kerensky, the head of the provisional government of the day, underwent a similar transformation. At the beginning of 1917, Kerensky was a popular orator and socialist with a high level of political support among the population. However, once in power, he refused to conclude an armistice with Germany, choosing instead to continue the war begun in August 1914 by the ousted monarchy in alliance with England and France. Kerensky continued to conscript soldiers, mostly from the countryside of the overwhelmingly rural country (former empire) and then send them off to grisly trench warfare. In the popular consciousness, he quickly turned into a pathetic clown and was soon forced to flee the country, disguised in a woman's dress no less.

Kerensky was driven from power and from the country by the rebellious workers, peasants, soldiers and sailors of Russia, yearning for better lives and a better world, free of exploitation of one man or woman by another. The days of the Empire were over. What was at stake in the Revolution of 1917 was nothing less than the destruction of the then-existing, 'rules-based' imperialist world order that had visited upon the entire world a catastrophic world war. Today's iteration of that empire and its alliances, in the form of the NATO military alliance, is threatening new wars or making them happen. So history, it seems, has come full circle, albeit through entirely unforeseen and unpredictable twists and turns.

The inheritors of the Russian Revolution of 1917 in today's Russian Federation, spearheaded by its armed forces, are joining with anti-imperialist forces around the world in fighting to end the 21st century, 'rules-based' imperialist world'. Then as now, their goal is to create a world in which all peoples and countries enjoy equal rights and equal respect of their sovereignty and social development.

Lavrov says US aims to prolong war in Ukraine

In an exclusive interview with Sputnik, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discusses the Ukraine crisis, military presence in Syria, and Russia's relations with the US and Iran

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow is open to negotiations on resolving the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing that talks must address the root causes and reflect the realities "on the ground."

In an exclusive interview with Sputnik, Lavrov stated that both the outgoing and incoming US administrations possess the means to initiate negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, exposing how Washington does not actually intend to end the war.

"If Washington really wanted to end the conflict, it would have stopped supplying weapons to Kiev, demanded that their satellites do the same, and ordered their Kiev puppets to cease fire, resume the negotiation process without any conditions," he told Sputnik
He also mentioned that Russia's approaches to resolving the conflict were previously defined by President Vladimir Putin on multiple occasions, highlighting that Moscow's main objectives are the "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, ensuring its non-aligned, neutral and nuclear-weapon-free status, and eliminating long-term threats to Russia's security emanating from the West, including the expansion of NATO."

Moreover, Ukraine must ensure the rights and freedom of Russian-speaking citizens, as well as acknowledge Russia's territorial realities
Lavrov stated that discussions in Kiev and the West about a ceasefire in Ukraine aim to buy time to bolster the Ukrainian Armed Forces for renewed conflict, implying that the recent F-16 fighter jet provisions from Denmark to Ukraine were further proof of recent escalations, prompting counter-measures from Russia.

On Syria and ties with Iran

The top Russian diplomat also discussed the matter of Russian military presence in Syria, particularly in light of the domestic developments, most notably the fall of the Assad regime.

According to Lavrov, Moscow has not been informed of any plans by Syria's new authorities to revise agreements on Russian military bases. He emphasized that no requests regarding this matter have been received from Damascus.

Lavrov acknowledged Syria's sovereignty and right to amend agreements but noted that the declared "transitional period" until March 1, 2025, likely explains the lack of action, adding that while changes in Syria's leadership and situation may influence the Russian military presence, any adjustments would require negotiations with the new Syrian leadership.

Moreover, the situation in Syria does not impact the comprehensive agreement established between Russia and Iran, the foreign minister affirmed, adding that it was ready to be signed and officiated.

He described the agreement as comprehensive, long-term, and adaptable to all circumstances, requiring no amendments despite the change in Syrian leadership. Lavrov highlighted that the agreement reflects significant progress in bilateral relations and elevates them to the level of a strategic partnership.

Russia, NATO, and the US

Lavrov also warned that the US and NATO would face decisive military-technical countermeasures if they create new missile threats against Russia, emphasizing the country's readiness for any scenario and the importance of reducing conflict.

While arms control could be discussed, Lavrov stressed it would only be part of a broader agenda. He noted that Russia's moratorium on deploying intermediate-range missiles is nearing its end due to US actions but remains in force for now.

Lavrov additionally criticized the US for deploying such weapons globally, prompting Russia to prepare proportional responses, stressing the successful testing of the Oreshnik system as evidence of Russia's capabilities
Moreover, Russia remains committed to maintaining predictability in the missile and nuclear sphere despite strained relations with the US. He denounced the US' underestimation of strategic stability and declared that no arms control negotiations would occur unless Washington abandons its "anti-Russian" policies.

Lavrov noted that Russia continues to voluntarily adhere to measures such as the quantitative limits of the New START treaty and a unilateral moratorium on deploying ground-based medium- and shorter-range missiles. He reiterated that while Russia is taking steps to ensure stability, dialogue with the US on arms control is currently off the table.

Russia's nuclear strategy

In a related context, Lavrov stressed that Russia's nuclear supply fully adheres to the charters of the New START treaty, even when its effectiveness was suspended. However, the restrictions outlined by the treaty could be rendered "meaningless" to Russia based on the US' actions.

He told Sputnik it is too early to speculate about the period following the expiration of the New START treaty in February 2026, emphasizing that much could change within a year, further noting that Russia continues to comply with the treaty's quantitative limits despite its suspension.

Earlier this week, Arms Control Association (ACA) Executive Director Daryl Kimball told RIA Novosti that US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin might discuss options for mutual nuclear restrictions during their upcoming interaction.

According to Kimball, neither leader has presented a plan regarding Russia's strategic arsenal, but discussions regarding Ukraine are expected to take place during the presidents' upcoming interaction, while discussions for nuclear restrictions could potentially arise, particularly after the expiration of New START.

The ACA chief further stressed the importance of establishing nuclear constraints, adding that "While trust may be at an all-time low, that is all the more reason for the two sides to avoid unconstrained strategic nuclear competition now or in the future."

Ukraine loses 400 troops in a day

Russian forces have reportedly successfully repelled three Ukrainian counterattacks along the Kursk border over the past day

Russia's Defense Ministry reported that Ukraine lost up to 400 of its forces during the past day, in its offensive against Russia's western region of Kursk.

In addition to the 400 troops, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost three tanks, three infantry fighting vehicles, one armored fighting vehicle, 14 motor vehicles, four artillery systems, one mortar, 13 FPV drone teams, and one air defense radar, the statement further added.

Over the past day, Russian forces reportedly successfully repelled three Ukrainian counterattacks along the Kursk border, dealing significant damage to enemy personnel and equipment across 11 border settlements and in the Sumy region, bringing Ukraine's total losses in the Kursk region since August to over 45,220.

Ukraine quadruples domestic gas prices

Ukraine will increase gas transit tariffs for its domestic customers fourfold starting Jan. 1 when a deal to transport Russian gas through Ukrainian pipes expires, the National Energy Regulatory Commission said during a meeting on Dec. 30

Russia has been paying Ukraine transport fees to carry its gas through underground Ukrainian pipelines as part of a 2019 deal between the two countries. Ukraine has repeatedly said that it will not extend the agreement when it expires at the end of this year.

During the meeting, the director of Ukraine's gas transit operator GTS Operator, Dmytro Lyppa, said that the Russian deal previously covered 85% of the operator's income from gas transit, according to reporting from Liga.net.

Lyppa also said that the tariff hike would not cover the full loss of income from the deal's expiry, and that the company was taking all possible measures to reduce its costs.

Many European countries have already sharply decreased their use of Russian gas following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but many countries, including Slovakia, Hungary, and Austria, still rely on Russian gas.

Last week, Slovakia threatened to cut electricity supplies to Ukraine if Ukraine goes through with its promise to halt Russian gas transit.

Slovakia threatens to cut electricity supplies if Ukraine ends Russian gas transit

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on Dec. 27 that his government will evaluate potential reciprocal measures against Ukraine, including halting electricity supplies, if Ukraine stops the transit of Russian gas to Slovakia after January 1.
