ENKS Meets Syrian Communities

Representatives of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) have held multiple meetings with various Syrian communities to discuss the country’s future and prepare for the next phase of governance

Ibrahim Bro, ENKS’s representative in the Syrian negotiating committee, shared details of the meetings on his Facebook page, highlighting the group’s engagement with diverse Syrian communities.

“During our stay in Damascus, we held several meetings and intensive visits for exchanges and discussions in preparation for the next phase,” the official wrote.

The ENKS delegation visited Suwayda province and met with Sheikh Hikmat Hijri and the family of Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, a prominent figure in Syrian history. Additionally, they held discussions with Armenian Catholic Bishop George Assdoria, Monsignor George Bahi, Zahi Tayara, Shadi Sarwa, and George Ndez.

The meetings focused on ensuring equality between all Syrian communities in terms of rights and duties and securing their participation in drafting a new Syrian constitution.

Bro also confirmed a meeting with the leadership of the Syrian Yezidi Council, including Mazkin Yousef and Sarhan Isa, as well as representatives from Aleppo and Afrin.

The consultations reflect ongoing efforts to build a new political framework for Syria that accommodates its diverse communities and ensures their inclusion in shaping the country’s future.

Kurdish participation in Damascus negotiations

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A significant diplomatic meeting took place in Qamishli, Rojava (Western Kurdistan), on Sunday, between a US delegation and the leadership of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC – or ENKS), according to KNC spokesperson Faisal Youssef in a statement to Kurdistan24

The discussions centered on three primary areas: the current situation in Syria, the importance of Kurdish unity in the present phase, and the prospect of unified Kurdish representation in the Damascus negotiations.

This meeting reflects ongoing American diplomatic efforts to facilitate cohesion among Kurdish political entities in Western Kurdistan (Rojava Kurdistani), with the aim of ensuring effective representation in negotiations with Damascus and maintaining security in Kurdish regions.

This latest diplomatic engagement follows a previous US-sponsored meeting held in Qamishli on Dec. 31, 2024, which brought together KNC representatives and Mazloum Abdi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Over 100 killed in Western Kurdistan

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Sunday that fierce clashes in Rojava Kurdistani (Western Kurdistan) over the past two days have resulted in a significant number of deaths, claiming the lives of more than 100 combatants, as hostilities deepen between Turkish-backed groups and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)

The Observatory stated that since Friday evening, violent clashes in multiple villages surrounding the city of Manbij led to the deaths of 85 members of Turkish-backed factions and 16 SDF fighters.

The conflict is reportedly fueled by Turkey's strategic support, including drone and aerial operations.

In a statement, the SDF stated it had effectively thwarted “all the attacks from Turkey’s mercenaries,” ascribing the intensification of clashes to Turkish military support.

The rekindled conflicts overlap with a broader campaign by Turkish-aligned factions, including Islamist-led rebels, who have attempted to expand their territorial control since November 27.

On that date, an offensive led by these groups resulted in the capture of Manbij and Tal Rifaat from the SDF.

As stated by Rami Abdel Rahman, the director of the Observatory, the ultimate aim of Turkish-backed forces is to control Kobani and Tabqa, with a longer-term objective of moving toward Raqqa, the former de facto capital of the Islamic State group.

The SDF, a Kurdish-led alliance supported by the United States, governs large swaths of northeastern Syria, including parts of Deir Ezzor province.

The group established an Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in areas evacuated by the Syrian government amid the civil war that erupted in 2011.

Over the years, the SDF has played a vital role in the fight against ISIS, markedly liberating Raqqa in 2017.

Turkey, however, sees the SDF as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a designated terrorist organization that has waged an insurgency in Turkey since the 1980s.

This has made the SDF a recurrent target of Turkish military operations, with Ankara accusing the group of threatening its national security.

ENKS representative urges
    PKK ban from Syria
A Kurdish National Council (ENKS/KNC) representative on Sunday said that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) must be banned from Syria to safeguard the rights of Kurds

“What is the Kurds’ business in Manbij and Tishreen Dam? Why are the Kurds there? We as the ENKS want to form a joint delegation…The PKK still rules there. We say separate yourselves from the PKK because their presence creates hesitation,” said Abdulhakim Bashar, an ENKS representative.

He added that the Syrian National Army (SNA) attacks on Manbij, Tishreen Dam, and Kobane were all caused by alleged PKK presence.

The ENKS is an umbrella group of Kurdish opposition parties in Western Kurdistan (Rojava Kurdistani). They have been in constant rivalry with the ruling Democratic Union Party (PYD) over influence in Western Kurdistan, and accuse the latter of having ties with the PKK.

“Let them expel the PKK, cut off their ties with the PKK, and expel foreigners from among themselves. Then, if Kobane is attacked, I will have a different opinion,” he stated.

Bashar has previously claimed that senior PKK commanders exert heavy influence on the ruling PYD, to the ire of Turkey, with the PKK being designated a terrorist organization by Ankara.

There are calls for a unified Kurdish front amid efforts to resume talks between feuding Kurdish parties in Western Kurdistan
Mazloum Abdi, chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), held a meeting late last month with ENKS to pave the way for resolving tensions and resuming talks.

Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime last week, the Kurdish National Unity Parties (PYNK) expressed readiness to return to talks with the ENKS. The PYNK is a coalition of 24 parties that have close ties with the PYD and have representatives in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES).

Bashar met with Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to discuss his activities during the 20-day trip to Damascus with different authorities and components in the country.

“Masoud Barzani said briefly, ‘If you accept my advice, you Syrian Kurds should be together and whatever is needed for the rights of the Kurdish people and whatever help I can give, I am ready,” Bashar said
He also highlighted that during his trip he saw that the Syrian people were very happy to have their newfound freedom of speech.

However, they still had fears as the new authority in Syria had an Islamist background. The ENKS deputy said that one thing was obvious, which is that “the Syrian people have made their own decision and will not accept a one-sided regime, whether Islamist or non-Islamist. One party, one force, one person can no longer rule Syria.”

Turkey Vows to Eliminate Fighters

Turkey declared on Monday that it is “only a matter of time” before Syrian Kurdish fighters are eliminated, emphasising its stance against the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which it considers a terror group linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)

“Conditions in Syria have changed. We believe it’s only a matter of time before PKK/YPG is eliminated,” Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said during a press conference in Ankara.

The YPG, a key component of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has been instrumental in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria.

However, Turkey views the group as a security threat due to its ties to the PKK, which is classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and the EU.

Fidan warned Western nations against supporting Kurdish fighters, stating, “If you have different aims in the region, if you want to serve another policy by using ISIS as an excuse to embolden the PKK, then there is no way for that either.”

The comments followed a meeting between Fidan and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, during which they discussed the threat posed by ISIS in Syria and the region after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime to Islamist-led rebels.

“We discussed what we can do together against the threat of ISIS in Syria and the region,” Fidan said, highlighting the importance of preventing the resurgence of the Islamic State.

“ISIS is a poison for Muslim societies. Using our religion to brutally kill people and create chaos is not something we will remain silent about.”
Turkey has reiterated its commitment to combating both ISIS and groups it deems terrorist threats, maintaining its stance as a key regional player in shaping Syria’s future.

Macron support for Western Kurdistan

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron delivered strong assurances of continued support for Kurdish forces in Western Kurdistan during his annual diplomatic address, while outlining France's broader strategic vision for regional stability and international engagement

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the West must not be naive about the new authorities in Syria after the overthrowing of Bashar al-Assad and promised France would not abandon Kurdish fighters.

"We must regard the regime change in Syria without naivety," Macron said in a speech to French ambassadors after Islamist-led forces toppled Assad on Dec. 8, 2024.

In his address to French ambassadors, Macron emphasized France's unwavering commitment to Kurdish allies, stating, France would not abandon "freedom fighters, like the Kurds" who are fighting extremist groups in Syria.

The French president specifically acknowledged Kurdish forces' crucial role in confronting terrorist organizations, particularly their sustained resistance against ISIS.

The French president also spoke about broader regional challenges, particularly describing Iran as "the main strategic and security challenge for France, the Europeans, the entire region and beyond," indicating continued diplomatic tension with Tehran.

This diplomatic position comes amid developing regional dynamics and echoes France's strategic interests in the Middle East.

Macron's explicit support for Syrian Kurdish forces signifies an extension of France's established policy of backing Kurdish-led anti-ISIS operations while promoting minority rights within Syria's political framework.

The timing of these statements conveys particular significance given ongoing regional tensions and shifting alliances in the Middle East.

The emphasis on backing Kurdish forces while concurrently advocating for inclusive Syrian governance underlines the complex balance France seeks to maintain in its Middle Eastern diplomatic strategy, especially as regional powers continue to vie for influence in post-conflict Syria.

Turkey threatens military action
    if ‘PKK cadres’ don't leave
Turkish foreign minister warned on Tuesday that Ankara plans to carry out a fresh military operation against Western Kurdistan if the alleged cadres of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) do not leave the country, adding that they have given a deadline to the Kurdish authorities through Western countries

“We have given an ultimatum to the YPG through Americans and the West,” Hakan Fidan told CNN Turk, referring to the People’s Protection Units (YPG), backbone of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

“The PKK cadres, who carry the international characteristics and came from Turkey, Iraq and Iran, have to leave [Syria]. They have to leave and they know this. To be honest, we do not see any preparation and intention in this regard. We are waiting,” he added.

He warned that if Turkey’s demands are not met “there will be a military operation.”

Turkey and the Syrian militia groups it supports, who call themselves the Syrian National Army (SNA), have recently intensified their attacks on the SDF-held areas near Manbij, including Tishreen Dam and Qere Qozaq bridge.

The SNA has controlled Manbij and Til Rifaat towns from the SDF since the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8.

The issue of the alleged presence of PKK cadres in Western Kurdistan has recently resurfaced. The new government in Damascus and Ankara have called for their departure.

The PKK has repeatedly said that it has no presence in Western Kurdistan.

“We openly announce that we as the PKK are not present in Western Kurdistan. We do not have any organic ties with any organizations, ” Murat Karayilan, a top PKK commander said in mid-December.

He added that their fighters entered Western Kurdistan to defend Kurds from the Islamic State (ISIS) attacks and returned to their places.

Turkey has carried out three major military campaigns against the SDF since 2016 on the grounds the YPG is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK and poses a threat to Ankara’s national security.

Turkey’s last offensive against the SDF was in 2019 when it took control of Sare Kani (Ras al-Ain) and Gire Spi (Tal Abyad). The campaign was halted after Americans and Russians mediated a ceasefire.

US President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Turkey suspended the operation after he, then president, intervened.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan "started and I said please don’t do that and he didn’t do it,” Trump said, adding that he and Erdogan are friends and have mutual respect for one another.

Fidan warned on Tuesday that his country plans to carry out a new military if the YPG fails to meet its conditions.

“If you do not want a military operation in the country from us or the new Syrian administration, the conditions are clear. We are openly announcing the conditions: the foreign fighters should leave Syria and the PKK leadership cadres - Syrians who hold leadership positions - should leave the country. They know who [we mean] and we have their names,” said the top Turkish diplomat.

He noted that the rest of the YPG fighters should lay down their weapons. “This is a bloodless and problemless process. In return, the non-PKK, dear Syrian Kurds, will live their normal lives without being harmed. The new Syrian administration has guaranteed us this,” he noted.

Mazloum Abdi, SDF chief, has also said several times that the PKK no longer exists in Western Kurdistan.

In an unprecedented move in mid-December, the Western Kurdistan administration decided to only allow the new Syrian flag, SDF flag and the emblems and symbols of the administration, effectively banning PKK slogans and banners.

Fidan said Kurds would enjoy equal rights in the new Syria.

Thousands of Kurds living in Syria had been deprived of citizenship by the ousted regime. Fidan said that they have urged the Syrian authorities to address this issue.

HTS has not clashed with the SDF and has allowed the US-backed force to remain in control of both Kurdish-majority neighborhoods in Aleppo.

Sharaa has said that the country's new security apparatus will include "Kurdish forces in its ranks,” calling Kurds an “integral part” of Syrian society but stressed that his administration will not allow the country to become a “launchpad” for the PKK.

SDF’s Abdi has declared that they are willing to merge the SDF into the new Syrian army if both sides agree on a “suitable formula through negotiations.”

Kurds should be united in demands to Damascus

Syrian Kurds should join forces and head to Damascus to present their demands as one team, suggested a veteran Kurdish politician on Wednesday as the country navigates a transitional phase

"I suggest that they [Kurds] separate one issue from another. The general issues like power, reference, and power sharing in Western Kurdistan should be put aside. The most important thing now is the identification of Kurdish demands in Syria and what to agree on before presenting them to the new Syrian regime,” Omar Sheikhmous told Rudaw's Dilbixwin Dara.

“We know that there is a good opportunity, there is a willingness and they listen. They are also ready to include Kurds in the authority. Therefore, they should focus on points they can agree on. They should also focus on the demands of Kurds in Syria regarding their language, culture, autonomous administration... and federalism,” added the politician who is originally from Western Kurdistan but lives in Sweden.

Many Syrians and foreign powers are worried that Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the force that spearheaded a recent military offensive that ousted Bashar al-Assad, may impose strict Islamic rules and threaten minority groups such as Kurds, Druze, Christians, and Alawites.

The Druze have established militia groups in Suwayda province and elsewhere, refusing to allow the security forces to enter their region. They have also declined demands from Damascus to lay down their arms until the country drafts a new constitution.

Sheikhmous believes that the demands for federalism or other forms of decentralized power by the Druze and other minority groups provide an opportunity for the Kurds to achieve a similar status.

A top Syrian official told Rudaw on Sunday that they will not allow any federalism or decentralized rule calling it a “red line.”

“We will not allow any federalism or any decentralized rule, and legitimize any solution based on ethnic, racial, or religious dimensions. This is a red line for all Syrians, and we hope that all other components will rise to the responsibility and contribute to building their country,” Ahmed al-Dalati, a leader in Syria’s Military Operations Command and deputy commander-in-chief of HTS, said
Sheikhmous highlighted that it is very important for Kurdish to be considered a second official language in the new Syrian constitution.

He also said that it is important that the new administration shares the economic resources equally among the regions - unlike the former regime.

There are ongoing efforts to resume intra-Kurdish talks between Kurdish ruling and opposition parties in Western Kurdistan. The talks began a decade ago but have been stalled for years due to disagreements.

The Kurdish National Council (ENKS/KNC), an umbrella group of Kurdish opposition parties in Western Kurdistan, has been in constant rivalry with the ruling People's Democratic Party (PYD) over maintaining influence in Western Kurdistan.

Mazloum Abdi, chief of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), held a meeting with the ENKS last month to pave the way for the resumption of ENKS-PYD meetings.

The latest talks are mediated by American and French diplomats.

Turkey ready to eliminate PKK in Syria

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday warned that Ankara is prepared to eliminate what it perceives as security threats in Syria, adding that with the fall of the old regime across the border, it is the "end of the road" for armed Kurdish groups

“The end of the road is now in sight for the separatist organization and its extensions in Syria. Nothing will ever be the same again. The old order will not continue,” Fidan said, referring to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers the PKK’s Syrian branch.

“Turkey has the power, capacity and most importantly, the determination to eliminate all threats to its survival at their source,” he said.

The YPG is the backbone of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which controls northeast Syria (Western Kurdistan) and is the main ally of the United States-led coalition combating the Islamic State (ISIS).

Fidan accused European countries of exploiting America’s influence in Syria to pursue their own agenda. His remarks came after French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday reiterated support for Syrian Kurds, referring to them as “freedom fighters” and vowing not to abandon them.

The fate of Western Kurdistan is uncertain as the new rulers in Damascus, who are close to Turkey, prepare for a national dialogue about the future of the country after the end of decades of Baath party rule.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot during a visit to Damascus last week said that “a political solution must be found with France's allies, who are the Kurds,” and called for a ceasefire in the Kurdish-held areas in northern Syria where Turkey and the Syrian militia groups it supports have intensified their attacks on the SDF.

France, an active member of the US-led coalition against ISIS, maintains a military presence in Western Kurdistan.

On Tuesday, Fidan said Ankara plans to carry out a fresh military operation against Western Kurdistan if the alleged PKK cadres do not leave the country, adding that they have given a deadline to the Kurdish authorities through Western countries. The PKK has repeatedly said that they have no presence in Western Kurdistan.

In December, Fidan held a joint press conference with Syria’s de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus where he said that the territorial integrity of Syria is “non-negotiable” and that the PKK “has no place" in the country.

Turkish Drone Strikes Civilian Infrastructure

Turkish forces launched a drone strike on a power station in Gir Kendal village near Derik in Western Kurdistan on Saturday, marking a sharp escalation in the targeting of civilian infrastructure, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR)

The strike, which hit critical power infrastructure, is part of a growing pattern of Turkish drone operations in the region. Earlier on the same day, Turkish drones targeted a vehicle in Khan Jabal, killing two civilians.

Reports suggest that Turkey has mobilized specialized combat units, signaling a coordinated expansion of military activities in Western Kurdistan. Since the start of 2025, Turkish forces have conducted 23 confirmed drone strikes in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), resulting in 11 civilian deaths and 21 injuries.

The attack on the power station underscores a significant shift in Turkish military strategy. Beyond targeting combatants, the strikes have increasingly focused on civilian infrastructure, including power generation facilities, with potentially severe humanitarian consequences.

Observers note that such actions could disrupt regional stability and civilian welfare, particularly in areas already struggling with conflict-related challenges.

Turkey’s intensified military campaign occurs amid heightened tensions over regional autonomy and security concerns in Western Kurdistan. The escalation reflects a broader tactical shift by Turkey to extend its operational boundaries.

The international community is closely monitoring these developments, with growing concern over the humanitarian implications of targeting essential civilian infrastructure in conflict zones.

Turkey Calls on SDF to Disband

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has urged the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to dissolve their structures if they wish to integrate with the Syrian central government successfully

Speaking at a meeting in Riyadh attended by foreign ministers from 12 Middle Eastern nations, Fidan reiterated Ankara’s stance that the SDF, led by the People’s Protection Forces (YPG), is an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which Turkey, the US, and the EU classify as a terrorist organization.

Fidan accused the SDF and its affiliates of endangering Arab communities in the East Euphrates and exploiting Syria’s natural resources, depriving the population of critical necessities.

He also emphasized Turkey’s readiness to collaborate with Syria to combat terrorist groups such as Islamic State, asserting that coordinated efforts could bolster Damascus’s ability to address extremism and contribute to the country’s reconstruction.

“Turkey is ready to do whatever is necessary to ease the difficult path of the Syrian people,” Fidan stated, reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to resolving Syria’s geopolitical and humanitarian challenges.

He also highlighted that regional nations bear the primary responsibility for Syria’s stabilization and reconstruction, which must be grounded in the principles of territorial integrity, unity, and sovereignty.

Fidan underlined Turkey’s willingness to play a central role in facilitating Syria’s transition process and ensuring long-term peace and security in the region.

President Barzani's support for
Kurdish unity in Western Kurdistan

Ismail outlined that President Barzani has consistently demonstrated concern for the Kurdish nation and its issues, particularly as international attention turns to Syria

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Mohammed Ismail, the president of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS), spoke with Kurdistan24 on Tuesday, emphasizing that President Masoud Barzani is deeply committed to the Kurdish cause and is focused on uniting Kurds in Western Kurdistan.

Ismail outlined that President Barzani has consistently demonstrated concern for the Kurdish nation and its issues, particularly as international attention turns to Syria. He highlighted Barzani’s vision of Kurdish unity, noting that his leadership embodies a spirit of cohesion for Kurdistan. Ismail also described the recent visit by Barzani’s representative as historic, delivering a significant message that has resonated strongly with the Kurdish community in Western Kurdistan.

“Whenever the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan needed President Barzani, he has supported the Kurdish cause and the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan,” Ismail said, pointing to the consistent support President Barzani has shown throughout various stages of the struggle
Ismail also expressed hope for further opportunities to unite the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan, especially amidst the shifting dynamics in Syria. He stressed that this unity is crucial for advancing the Kurdish cause and securing the rights of the Kurdish population in the region.

Notably, Mazloum Abdi, a prominent Kurdish leader in Syria, also welcomed the visit of Barzani’s representative, calling it a positive step and expressing optimism about the current developments in Syria.

“We will not fall under the influence and dominance of any force or country; we will not become instruments of anyone,” Ismail stated firmly. “We care about our people and the rights of the Kurdish people in Western Kurdistan.”

President Barzani's Representative Visit

Speaking to Kurdistan24, Ciftyurek underscored the importance of these meetings, notably emphasizing their timing and potential impact on Kurdish unity

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a significant development for Kurdish unity efforts, Sinan Ciftyurek, a parliamentarian from Van province representing the Peoples' Democratic and Justice Party (DEM Party), has characterized the recent diplomatic mission of President Barzani's representative to Western Kurdistan as "important and sacred."

Hamid Darbandi, President Barzani's representative, arrived in Western Kurdistan on Monday for meetings with key Kurdish leaders.

The diplomatic engagement included meetings with Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Hasaka, and Muhammad Ismail, President of the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS also known as KNCS) in Qamishli
Speaking to Kurdistan24, Ciftyurek underscored the importance of these meetings, notably emphasizing their timing and potential impact on Kurdish unity.

"The visit of President Barzani's representative to Western Kurdistan and his meetings with SDF and ENKS officials represent an important and sacred step forward," he stated.

During his visit, Darbandi conveyed President Barzani's message highlighting the significance of unity and solidarity among Kurdish parties in Western Kurdistan, particularly crucial given Syria's current transitional phase.

The message resonated with both the SDF and ENKS leadership, who later issued separate statements expressing gratitude for President Barzani's continuous support for Kurdish rights in Western Kurdistan while reiterating their commitment to Kurdish unity
The timing of this diplomatic initiative is notably significant, following recent US-sponsored talks between SDF and ENKS officials in Qamishli.

Furthermore, the visit comes on the heels of an ENKS delegation's recent meeting with President Barzani at his headquarters in Pirmam, where discussions centered on Syria's latest developments and the future of Kurds in the country.

This diplomatic engagement signifies a continuation of efforts to reinforce Kurdish unity and coordination across different regions, emphasizing the ongoing role of Kurdish leadership in navigating complex regional dynamics and promoting Kurdish interests through diplomatic channels.

The focus on unity and coordination among Kurdish parties at this juncture hints at a strategic approach to tackling challenges facing the Kurdish people in Syria while maintaining strong inter-regional Kurdish relations.

Masoud Barzani and Mazloum Abdi
Agree on Kurdish Unity in Syria
Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander Mazloum Abdi held a historic meeting in Erbil to address key issues affecting Syria’s Kurdish population

The discussions focused on unity among Syrian Kurdish parties and their role in navigating the country’s ongoing political transition. During the meeting, Barzani emphasized the importance of collaboration among Syrian Kurdish factions to secure Kurdish rights.

He urged them to avoid external interference and to work toward peaceful solutions that contribute to Syria’s stability. “Syrian Kurdish parties must unite and adopt a common stance to guarantee their rights and prevent further tragedies,” Barzani’s office stated
The meeting was facilitated by the United States, with Abdi arriving in Erbil via an American helicopter. Sources announced that the SDF commander also spoke with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani during his visit.

The dialogue builds on Barzani’s longstanding efforts to mediate between Kurdish ruling and opposition parties in Syria. Despite the collapse of the 2015 Duhok Agreement—a power-sharing deal between the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Kurdish National Council (ENKS)—Barzani continues to advocate for Kurdish unity as a cornerstone for peace and stability in the region.

Abdi’s visit comes at a critical time, as Syria faces a transitional phase following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8. The meeting reflects a broader push to align Kurdish strategies within Syria’s evolving political landscape.

The SDF / PYD are bullies who have ignored all other Kurdish parties in Syria for years, I very much doubt that the new Syrian government will tolerate their bullying tactics :))

KNC delegation meets
Tomorrow Movement leader

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A delegation from the Kurdish National Council (KNC), led by Mohammed Ismail, President of the Council, visited Sheikh Ahmed al-Jarba, leader of Syria’s Tomorrow Movement, on Thursday, in the village of Tel Khazal, 3.3 km from Derik in Western Kurdistan

During the meeting, both sides addressed key issues concerning Syria’s future governance, the ongoing state of the Peace and Freedom Front, and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The resolution emphasizes the importance of a negotiated settlement that includes all ethnic and religious groups in Syria, ensuring a fair and peaceful transition.

The Peace and Freedom Front (PFF), a significant political alliance, consists of the KNC, Syria’s Tomorrow Movement, the Assyrian Democratic Organization, and the Arab Council of the Euphrates and Jazira.

This coalition advocates for a democratic Syria that respects the rights of all minorities, with a particular focus on the Kurdish people and other marginalized communities.

As it is known the Kurdish National Council in Syria is a political coalition that includes a group of Kurdish parties working to represent all the Kurdish people in Syria.

It was founded on Oct. 26, 2011, amid the Syrian revolution, with the goal of promoting the political, cultural, and social rights of the Kurds.
