Birmingham stabbing:
One dead and four injured

Police were called to reports of “disorder” in the Sparkhill area of the city at 10.40pm on Friday

It involved men who were known to each other, West Midlands Police said.

A 37-year-old man was discovered in Wilton Road with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Another man, aged 35, was found in a property with serious stab wounds and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The three other men, two in their 30s and one in his 40s, suffered injuries “which were not serious”, the force said.

A crime scene remained in place on Saturday morning as officers continued to investigate.

Det Insp Nick Barnes, from the force’s homicide team, said: "A man has tragically died and others have been injured as a result of this disorder.

"We understand all the men are known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death at this stage.

"Enquiries around the circumstances leading to this disorder are ongoing and I would ask anyone with information which can assist these to get in contact."

Maidstone stabbing:
man 21 knifed to death

Four men from London have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 21-year-old man was knifed to death on a high street in Maidstone

Police were called to a disturbance involving a number of people in Maidstone High Street at 3am on Sunday.

A 21-year-old man was found with stab injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

Four men were injured and taken to hospital.

A video from the scene shared on Facebook shows a fight breaking out between a group of men as others watch on. A man who appears to be a security guard can be seen trying to disperse the crowds.

A man is then seen lying motionless on the ground as a group of people check on him.

A 23-year-old man, two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old man were arrested and remain in custody.

The street remained closed on Sunday morning while officers investigated the incident.

The incident is the third fatal stabbing in the UK in three days.

A 32-year-old man died from knife injuries in Birmingham on Friday evening. A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A man in his 60s was stabbed to death in Southall, west London, on Saturday evening.

Tributes to uni student stabbed
to death after attending rap show

The family of a university student who was stabbed to death after attending a rap concert paid tribute to him today as four men were appearing in court charged with violent disorder

Andre Bent was repeatedly stabbed after celebrating a friend’s birthday at a show by rapper MoStack on Saturday night.

Police said the 21-year-old died at the scene in Maidstone, Kent, at about 3am on Sunday following a “disturbance” involving multiple people. Today, Kent Police said its murder inquiry was continuing.

Four London men — Yussef Abdi Aweys, 19, and Nathaniel Small, 22, both of Crouch End, and Darien Thompson-Cox, 21, Mohamed Abdurahman, 23, both of Hornsey — were set to appear at Medway magistrates’ court today accused of violent disorder.

Mr Bent’s family said he was weeks away from starting the second year of a business management degree at London South Bank University.

They said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our brightest sparks.

“We’re appreciative of all the well-wishes and urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.” Speaking at Mr Bent’s family home in West Norwood, his uncle appealed for witnesses to come forward and contact police.

“Any information anyone’s got, bring it forward, that’s what we need right now,” he said.

The victim’s sister Michaela said: “He did not deserve this. I will not see my brother again and nothing can change that.

“What we can do is find the person who did this and let justice serve its course.”

Mr Bent was attacked after attending a concert at Gallery nightclub. The club denied that the incident happened “directly outside” the venue and said guests were searched using metal detectors before entering.

It said in a statement: “Gallery sends its condolences to the family and friends of the person that passed away.”

Father pays tribute to son 18
fatally stabbed in east London

An 18-year-old man has been knifed to death after being chased by thugs through an east London estate in broad daylight

The victim, named locally as Santino, died at the scene after being attacked at about 3.30pm yesterday.

He is the 18th teenager to be murdered in the capital so far this year — and the fourth to be killed in just 15 days.

This morning Santino’s father, mother and younger brother laid flowers at the scene in the Chadd Green estate, Plaistow.

His father said: “My son, he did nothing. He was just 18 years old, a baby.

“Everybody is saying they are sorry to me, but it is my son who will be in the ground.”

Witnesses told how the victim was chased through the estate before being left for dead by his killers outside a row of terraced houses.

Terry Eddis, 73, added: “I saw a police car tearing into the road and three officers ran over to where the boy was lying on the ground.

“I saw them giving him CPR, and there was a drip next to him.”

Mr Eddis added: “He didn’t look very old, he just looked like a child.”

Scotland Yard said a post-mortem will be arranged in due course. There have been no arrests so far.

Brixton stabbing:
Man 39 knifed to death

A murder probe has been launched after a 39-year-old man was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Brixton, South London

Police and paramedics scrambled to reports of a stabbing on Brixton Hill just after midday on Thursday.

The victim, 39, rushed to a south London hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after.

A Met spokesman said: "Police were called at 12.07pm on Thursday to reports of a stabbing at Brixton Hill, SW2.

"Officers, London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene and found a 39-year-old male suffering from a stab wound.

"He was taken by LAS to a south London hospital where he sadly died a short time later."

Police say his next of form have been informed and a post-mortem will be scheduled in due course.

A crime scene and road closures remain in place while police invesigate.

Two males have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The police spokesman added: "They have been taken to a south London police station where they remain at this time.

"At this early stage officers retain an open mind as to motive."

London stabbings: Boy 15 and
man 21 fighting for their lives

A 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man are both fighting for life after daylight stabbings in Haringey and Croydon

The teenage boy was found suffering stab wounds in Willan Road, on the Broadwater Farm Estate (notoriously dangerous and violent estate) in Tottenham, on Friday morning.

The boy remains in a critical condition in hospital. His parents have been told.

Officers believe the teenager had been involved in an altercation before he was knifed. The suspect may have been riding a bicycle, the Met Police said.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said officers were called to the scene at 11:14am.

The boy was treated at the scene before he was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley of North Area CID is appealing for witnesses and members of the public "who valiantly administered crucial first aid to the victim" to come forward.

“The victim, not yet 16-years-old, sustained multiple stab wounds and is fighting for his life," he said.

“If you know anything about the circumstances surrounding the incident or if you witnessed it, please do come forward."

A 21-year-old man is also fighting for his life after being stabbed on Croydon High Street.

His phone and watch are thought to have been stolen too, police said.

Three men have also been arrested on suspicion of GBH.

A statement from MPS Croydon said: "Police were called at 17:26hrs to Croydon High Street after a 21-year-old man was found suffering from a stab injury. Officers attended with London Ambulance Service.

"He has been taken to hospital where his condition is currently being treated as life-threatening."

SOE declared in
St Catherine, Clarendon

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness has declared a State of Public Emergency (SOE) for the parishes of St Catherine and Clarendon

He made the announcement a short while ago at a press conference at Jamaica House.

The SOE, which took effect this morning, will continue for 14 days.

Police commissioner Major General Antony Anderson said the SOE was necessitated by the escalating crime levels in the parishes.

He said Clarendon has recorded 100 murders since January, while St Catherine South has recorded 91 and St Catherine North 66.

Boy dies days after being
knifed in broad daylight

A 15-year-old boy has died days after he was repeatedly stabbed in a north London street

Perry Jordan Brammer, from Tottenham, was attacked in broad daylight in Willan Road in the Broadwater Farm Estate on Friday morning.

He was found by police and paramedics shortly after 11am and rushed to hospital. He died there on Thursday, Scotland Yard said.

A post-mortem examination will take place next week.

The force said the teenager's killer is believed to have fled the scene on a yellow bicycle, which was later found abandoned in an alleyway.

Three men aged 20, 21 and 24, and a 17-year-old boy, were previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but were all released with no further action being taken, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, appealed for information.

He said: "This attack happened in broad daylight and we believe there are people out there who know what happened.

"This was a sustained attack which has led to a boy aged just 15 losing his life.

"We are determined to find the individual responsible for this murder and we believe he fled the scene on a yellow bicycle which was later found abandoned nearby in an alleyway.

The death is the latest in a spate of teenage murders in the capital.

A 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in Byford Close, Stratford, east London on Tuesday evening after officers were called to reports of a fight.

Santino Angelo Dymiter, 18, from Plaistow, was stabbed to death in Chadd Green, east London on August 26.

The week before, Amrou Greenidge, also 18, died in hospital after being deliberately knocked off his bike by a vehicle in Fulham and attacked as he lay on the ground on August 18.

Solomon Small, 18, was knifed to death in Brixton on August 15, while just three days earlier Alex Smith, 16, died after being repeatedly stabbed with a machete in Munster Square, Camden.

The murder in Tottenham is the 94th homicide in London this year.

By the same date last year the homicide rate had reached 99, with the final total for 2018 hitting 128 according to analysis - the bloodiest calendar year this decade.

A 17-year-old boy and two 22-year-old men were wounded in the shooting at the Baker’s Dozen Caribbean Roots restaurant in Brixton

CCTV footage shows a man looking nervously outside as diners wait for their orders. He then closes the door and backs away before customers try to scramble over the counter as an attacker bursts inside and fires shots from a handgun.

One man can be seen cowering on the floor a yard away from the shooter as he opens fire. After the gunman fled an injured man was seen dragging himself along the floor.

A Section 60 order granting police extra stop and searches was put in place after the shooting, which took place at about 9.30pm on August 22. None of the men suffered life-threatening injuries. One has been discharged from hospital.

The 17-year-old victim, named by family members as Youssef Karim Hasan Al-Bayjani, was attacked by a gang at 2pm on busy Edgware Road yesterday lunchtime.

The killing is the 105th of the year in London, and he is the seventh person to be murdered in London in just nine days.

Sixth form student Mr Hasan Al-Bayjani, who was studying business at the City of Westminster College was found on the street suffering with stab injuries.

The Evening Standard reports that the boy's family visited the scene this morning, and revealed the teenager's dying words were 'Oh God' in Arabic.

He had a brother and sister and lived nearby with his Kurdish mother.

A witness who saw the attack from Domino's Pizza next door told the Standard that the teenage victim's brother lay over him to try to protect him as he lay bleeding.

He said: 'It just looked like a fight at first, but then I saw they had knives. His brother was shouting telling people to get away.

He was shouting 'Get off, get off, he's my brother' and then the paramedics were there very quickly.'

A police cordon is still in place outside a row of shops where the attack took place.

Mourners, some weeping at the edge of the police cordon, left flowers.

Witnesses said a group of around 40 people, many thought to be students from a nearby college, gathered as paramedics tried to save the boy.

A market trader, who did not want to be named, said: 'I saw him on the floor and the ambulance came.

'There were a lot of people around, students from the college.

'I saw him move twice, but after that he didn't move again.'

DCI Andy Partridge, from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said: 'This awful attack took place in broad daylight in a busy part of central London.

'A teenager with his whole life ahead of him has been taken away from his family who have been left heartbroken.

'We know that lots of people were in the area at the time and may well have seen what unfolded.

'We need them to do the right thing and get in touch right away with what they saw along with any images or moving footage captured before, during or after the attack.'

Camden stabbing: Male knifed
to death and another injured

A male has been knifed to death and another was injured in a double stabbing in a busy north London road

Police and paramedics were called to reports of an assault in Camden High Street at about 11.10pm on Thursday.

The male, whose age has not be released by police, was found suffering a knife injury.

He was given first aid but was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have not yet been informed.

A second man, in his mid-twenties, was also found suffering from a stab wound.

He was rushed to hospital and his condition was not immediately clear.

No arrests have been made.

The high street remained partially closed into the night and a forensic tent was erected at the scene.

Police stop and search powers were ramped up as a Section 60 order was put in place for the borough.

Man, 24, killed in drive-by
shooting in north London

A young man who was killed in a drive-by shooting in north London has been named

Wilson Alexandre Garcia Varela, 24, from Forest Gate, east London, was gunned down in Kentish Town in the early hours of Monday.

Mr Varela was shot "at close range" after being approached by a moped rider who was carrying a passenger, police said.

He was found suffering a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead in Malden Road shortly after midnight.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death to be a shotgun wound to the chest, Scotland Yard said.

There have been no arrests and police are appealing for information.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Stancombe from the Specialist Crime Command said: "While our investigation continues to move at a pace, the motive for this shooting remains unclear.

"It is hard to understand what could have led to this murder, and we need someone to tell us why this happened.

"Although we have made previous appeals, I am confident that there are people out there who either know why this happened, or who was responsible but have, so far, chosen not to come forward.

"While our investigation moves forward, there is a devastated family who are in limbo, desperately trying to fathom why Wilson has been so cruelly taken from them.

"Is there a reason Wilson was targeted? Was he even the intended victim of the shooting?

"Every day that these questions remain unanswered, Wilson's family continue to suffer the pain of not knowing.

"I urge anyone who can help us complete the picture of the circumstances surrounding this incident to search their conscience and do the right thing.

"Contact my detectives who are waiting to take your call. Help us to take a gun and the murderer that fired it, off the streets of Camden. Your call, even anonymously, could literally save lives."

A representative of Mr Varela's family said in memory of him: "You will remain a legend for us all, your spirit will always and forever guide us like you used to.

Mum's heartbreaking tribute to
knife victim son as killer is jailed

The mother of a London knife crime victim has paid a heartbreaking tribute to her son after his teenage murderer was sentenced to life in prison

Kamari Gordon, 17, of Brookdene Road, Plumstead, must serve a minimum of 17 years for the murder of 18-year-old Aron Warren in Greenwich in December last year.

Mr Warren’s mother, Lorraine Donovan, said after the sentencing at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday: “As a mother you would never expect to be burying your son, let alone standing in a court talking about his life.

“Aron had a good heart and I’d often say to him when he was going out with his friends, don’t be foolish with your money. He would say: ‘Ma, I can’t leave one person out just because they didn’t have any money.’ That’s the type of person Aron was. He would never want to see anyone without.

“The future was so bright for him, he had the world at his feet and it was just taken away from him and me.”

Gordon was convicted of murder in June, as well as for possessing of a knife in public.

The court heard Gordon stabbed Mr Warren twice at his home address in Prior Street, Greenwich, before taking multiple items including two knives and a Rolex watch.

Gordon, who was 16 at the time of the murder, was identified as being outside the victim’s third storey flat at least five minutes before the offence took place.

He was also seen acting aggressively by showing off a large knife – later established as being used to murder Aron – and threatening that he was going to “see Irish”, referring to the victim who was of Irish descent.

Mr Warren was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers later recovered an iPad from Gordon’s home address which had a photo of him posing with the watch belonging to Mr Warren. It was taken only five hours after the murder.

Det Insp Brett Hagen, of the homicide and major crime team, said: “Gordon is a violent individual who committed this murder at the age of just 16.

“He will now have a long time to reflect on his actions that day and I hope this sentence brings some form of closure to Aron’s family.”

The defendant was found not guilty of robbery.

Putney stabbings: Three men knifed within
minutes of each other in 'linked' attacks

Three men have been stabbed within minutes of each other in south-west London in what police believe to be linked attacks

Officers were called to Burston Road, Putney, at 10.42am today following reports of a stabbing.

Arriving at the scene, they were told a man had been stabbed and then left the scene in a white saloon car.

Minutes later, police were called to Eastleigh Walk, also in Putney, to reports of a fight.

Scotland Yard said officers were called to the address by the London Ambulance Service at 10.48am.

“Officers attended. A man, believed to be in his 20s, was found with stab injuries,” the force said in a statement.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital. His condition is unknown.

Then, at 11.10am, a man believed to be in his 20s presented himself at a hospital in south London with a stab wound, the Met said.

He was admitted for treatment but his condition is understood to be non-life threatening.

He has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The force said: “At this early stage, the three incidents are believed to be linked.”

It said crime scenes had been put in place at the first two addresses while enquiries continue.

A section 60 order giving officers search powers has been put in place across the entire Wandsworth borough until 2.45am on Friday.

Horror as man hacked to
death by machetes gang

Bystanders fled in terror as the group of at least five men attacked the 23-year-old in Camden Town, north London. The victim, a Somalian national, named only as Asant, was treated by paramedics but pronounced dead at the scene. Police said a second man, in his mid-20s, was found nearby with a stab wound and was taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition last night

A friend of Asant’s, who asked to stay anonymous, said he was a “regular guy” who was “in the wrong place at the wrong time”.

Describing the attack, he said: “There were loads of us here when a group of men jumped out with Samurais.

“We were all scared. Everybody just scattered and ran.

“There were loads of us here but he must have been one of the slowest.

“He probably stopped to help others because that’s the kind of person he is, and got in the way.

“He was the best of all of us and he had a big heart. We were crying in the street.”

The witness said police arrived promptly at the scene on Thursday night and were “quick to jump on everyone”.

No arrests have been made.

The friend claimed the same gang had fired off shots nearby in a recent outrage.

Yesterday tearful relatives of Asant’s visited the spot where he was killed.

Construction worker Lee Booty, who lives on the high street, said some people were making it harder for the police to do their job by banging on the side of their patrol car.

He added: “The police force are going mad, they have had enough of it.

“There were people on the corner here shouting and screaming and getting searched.

“They were shouting about injustices and saying, ‘I won’t move, why should I move?’.

“The police wanted this area clear and they were angry – they are entitled to be. We are all angry. This is a common trend now.”

The murder was the third in Camden and the sixth in London this week, taking the capital’s knife crime death toll for 2019 to 60. Appealing for witnesses to come forward, Chief Super-
intendent Raj Kohli said police were working across the borough “to keep everyone safe”.

He added: “The local community will no doubt be alarmed and shocked by this latest attack, particularly coming so soon after the fatal incidents earlier this week.” Campaigner Danny O’Brien, of Anti-Knife UK, said: “We have lost 60 people to knife crime in London this year and 19 of those have been teenagers.

“The numbers could be a lot higher if we did not have some top surgeons and ambulance staff.

“We have just had empty words about getting tough on knife crime and now it is like putting the genie back into the bottle.”
