Four people are dead and at least 26 others, including five children, have been injured in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend, according to police.

In a story that generated national headlines, six people were shot in the 6300 block of South Seeley Avenue on Saturday evening. Around 6:20 p.m., a group of people were gathered on a sidewalk following a baby shower when a man fired into the crowd, striking several individuals.

SUPPLY AND DEMAND

Most people who start taking drugs do so by using easy to access cannabis and then go on to harder drugs

Most of the drug gangs sell cannabis in it's various forms

Cannabis needs to be upgraded and punishment more severe, in order to dissuade people from using it and by so doing reduce the customer base

Less customers = less drug dealers = less money for drug gangs

Like any other sales organisation = loss of customers = not enough income / profit = cutbacks = redundancies

Less money for drug dealers = drug gangs without profit will eventually lose support of their employees / members, as most youngsters involved in drug gangs are only interested in making and spending money

NO CUSTOMERS = NO DEMAND

UK POLICE ENCOURAGE CANNABIS USE

Police across the UK are given green light to let cannabis users off scot-free and suggest they get treatment instead of punishment

Police will ask cannabis users to go for treatment rather than prosecuting them

The softening of approach was announced by the National Police Chiefs’ Council

Chief constables can decide to arrest and charge, caution or warn those caught
Police forces across the country were yesterday given the green light to stop arresting cannabis users.

Individual chief constables can now decide whether to arrest and charge, caution or warn those caught with the drug – or simply let them go.

The softening of approach was announced by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the body that develops nationwide operational policies.

The organisation’s spokesman on drugs, Cleveland assistant chief constable Jason Harwin, said that asking cannabis users to go for treatment rather than prosecuting them could prevent re-offending and provide the ‘best outcome’.

The news follows last week’s disclosure by the chief constable of the West Midlands force, Dave Thompson, that his officers do not even give official warnings to young cannabis users because it would be ‘disastrous for their life chances’.

Mr Harwin, who is NPCC ‘lead for drugs’, said: ‘There is strong evidence to suggest that recommending minor offenders for early intervention treatment instead of pursuing convictions can prevent re-offending and result in the best outcome for both the user and the criminal justice system.

‘It is a matter for chief constables, in liaison with their police and crime commissioners, to determine operational priorities.’

Suggesting to users that they opt for drug treatment means there is no arrest or even a minor criminal sanction, but there is no pressure on the user to take up the treatment.

Possession of a Class B drug such as cannabis can lead to a five-year prison sentence and an unlimited fine. Growing or dealing cannabis can theoretically bring 14 years’ jail and an unlimited fine.

Mr Harwin, whose organisation includes the 43 police forces in England and Wales, said that chief constables would continue to pursue large-scale drug gangsters.

However, he added: ‘There are a range of options for dealing with those found in possession of cannabis or who cultivate the plant that are proportionate to individual circumstances – these include out-of-court disposals and cannabis warnings, as well as prosecution.’

West Midlands Police Chief Constable David Thompson disclosed that his officers do not even give official warnings to young cannabis users because it would be ‘disastrous for their life chances’

His remarks provoked fresh criticism from anti-drug campaigners. Drugs analyst Kathy Gyngell, co-editor of the Conservative Woman website, said: ‘This is astonishing in view of the cumulative relationship between cannabis and violence. This is symptomatic of the politically influenced easier-to-say-yes-than-no culture of present day policing.’

David Raynes of the National Drug Prevention Alliance said: ‘Deliberately undermining the law on cannabis is no part of the NPCC’s function.’

In response to the NPCC statement, the Home Office said that police chiefs are expected to enforce the law. A spokesman said: ‘Possession of cannabis is a criminal offence.’

Station cells facing the axe

Police officers will end up becoming ‘taxi drivers’ if plans to close station cells go ahead, critics have warned.

Derbyshire Police have proposed shutting the 13 cells at Buxton’s Silverlands police station later this year as they are ‘under-used’.

The move would save almost £500,000. Under the plans, anyone arrested in the borough of High Peak would have to be taken to Chesterfield or even Ashton or Cheadle in Greater Manchester instead – in each case more than 20 miles away and taking a two-hour round trip.

It will leave just two custody suites, Chesterfield and Derby, in all of Derbyshire, which has a population of around a million people.

Resident Sandra Davies, 71, said: ‘There will be some officers who will be working a shift as a taxi driver not a police officer.’

A petition by Ruth George, MP for High Peak, calls for scrapping the plans.

Economics Basics:
Supply and Demand

Supply and demand is perhaps one of the most fundamental concepts of economics and it is the backbone of a market economy. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship.

In terms of drugs: a punishment and criminal record for drug possession acted as a deterrent:

No punishment = no deterrent, ergo the demand will increases

Supply represents how much the market can offer. The quantity supplied refers to the amount of a certain good producers are willing to supply when receiving a certain price. The correlation between price and how much of a good or service is supplied to the market is known as the supply relationship. Price, therefore, is a reflection of supply and demand.

As the demand for drugs increases, the number of suppliers (drug dealers/gangs) will increase. As will the demand of suppliers for better deals from local wholesalers and importers so as to undercut other suppliers (drug dealers/gangs) leading to more gang wars

The relationship between demand and supply underlie the forces behind the allocation of resources. In market economy theories, demand and supply theory will allocate resources in the most efficient way possible. How? Let us take a closer look at the law of demand and the law of supply.

The Law of Demand

The law of demand states that, if all other factors remain equal, the higher the punishment for possession of a drug, the less people will demand that drug.

In other words, the higher the punishment, the lower the quantity demanded

If the UK police remove the punishment, they remove the deterrent and increase demand and the violence associated drug dealing X(

Higher up the supply chain, competition among drug dealers is extremely fierce and violent, much more so than the local street gangs.

Dealers in the lower echelons strive to raise to a higher level in the supply chain. People are shot, homes are firebombed, some people are forced to flee the country, some disappear.

The black/mixed race youths see drug dealers with the heavy gold chains, expensive clothing and ridiculously priced trainers and they want the same

Often, one time drug dealers become rappers and treated like Gods. Recently, one rapper was released from prison having served time for possession of a firearm. He went to a club where he was welcomed on stage and everyone cheered him as though he was a hero X(

Man's hand severed in Rotherham
machete car-jacking

A 25-year-old man had his hand severed during a carjacking in South Yorkshire

The victim was attacked by a group of men on East Bawtry Road in Whiston, Rotherham, at about 22:50 BST on Sunday, police said.

He had been driving alone in a white Mercedes when he pulled over near Lease Gate Road, got out and was attacked by the group with a "metal weapon".

They then drove off in the Mercedes. South Yorkshire Police said the men were not known to the victim.

Unconfirmed reports said the metal object was a "machete" and the man was "lucky to be alive".

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition with "life-changing injuries".

The attackers got out of a dark-coloured vehicle before the attack.

Drug dealers, being far more intelligent than the average police officer, do not keep large amounts of drugs on their person

They have an assortment of stashes, make a quick call and more is delivered. From their homes, they always have hiding places in and around their neighbourhoods. They also deliver to sub dealers and well paying customers :-s

Our police are useless :-s

Our councils house drug dealers X(

Chingford stabbings: Three teens knifed in broad daylight in Waltham Forest

Three teenagers have been found suffering stab injuries in nearby streets in north-east London

Scotland Yard said officers were called after the victims, one aged 15 and two aged 19, were discovered in the Chingford area of Waltham Forest this afternoon.

Police were first called to Lukin Crescent, a short distance from Chingford station, at 3.07pm on Monday.

There they found a 15-year-old boy with a stab injury.

Shortly afterwards, officers were called to Westminster Gardens where two 19-year-old men were also found with stab wounds.

All three victims were rushed to hospital, a Met Police spokesman said.

Police later said none of the victims had suffered life-threatening injuries. Four arrests have been made.

Prime Minister Theresa May recently held a summit on knife crime following a spate of bloodshed across London and the rest of England since the start of 2019.

Last week a man appeared in court in connection with five knife attacks that took place in Edmonton, north London.

One of the victims, a 45-year-old woman, was left paralysed after her spinal cord was severed in the attack.

Earlier this year 14-year-old Jaden Moodie was stabbed to death in Leyton, in Waltham Forest, after a group of five men in a black Mercedes rammed him off a moped, police believe.

Police probe three more
stabbings in north London

Man fights for life after being 'run over' and stabbed by thugs who stole his moped in south east London

London's bloodbath continued as three more people were stabbed in the capital

Two men were both stabbed in Kilburn this morning in attacks that may be linked

Third man, in his 20s, was stabbed in his leg in Walthamstow, north east London

The latest stabbing was in Eltham, south east London during a moped robbery

A man is fighting for his life after thugs ran over and stabbed him before stealing his moped as the capital's bloodbath continues.

The man, in his late 20s, was attacked by two men in Crossmead, Eltham, south-east London, just after 5pm yesterday. One arrest has been made.

Three more people were stabbed in the capital yesterday, including two in the north of the capital in potentially linked attacks.

A man in his 20s was stabbed in his leg on High Street in Walthamstow, north east London, following reports of a fight at around 4.30pm.

Before that, two other men were attacked in Kilburn, north west London this morning, with one, 63, stabbed in the back at around 1.19am, before a second, aged 39, was stabbed in the stomach a short time later.

The latest day of bloodshed in the capital comes after a man in his 20s was killed in a gun and knife attack in east London last night.

The man stabbed in Eltham is believed to be in a life-threatening condition, with his sister Jade taking to Facebook to reveal that he was run over before being stabbed.

She said: 'He was run over couple times and stabbed has a broken pelvis and a punctured lung.'

None of the other three victims of today's stabbings are in a life-threatening condition and no arrests have yet been made.

Detective Sergeant Mark Johnson, from North West Area's CID, said of the two Kilburn stabbings: 'At this early stage in the investigation, we are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked and there is a team of officers working around the clock who are carrying out patrols, CCTV footage enquiries and speaking to witnesses.

'I would appeal to any witnesses or any motorists who may have dash cam footage of the incidents who have not yet come forward to contact police urgently. Any information, no matter how small, will greatly assist us in this investigation.

'Officers are currently conducting extra reassurance patrols in the area, and anyone with any concerns can speak to officers on the street, go to a police station or call 101 or Crimestoppers.

'If you are out and about in Kilburn High Street and the surrounding area I would ask you to remain vigilant, be aware of your surroundings and, if you see anything suspicious, call police immediately on 999.'

Yesterday, four people were captured on CCTV fleeing the scene of a murder in east London.

A man in his 20s died in the gun and knife attack and this morning his mother was spotted visiting the scene in the aftermath.

The London Ambulance Service alerted police that a man had been attacked in Manor Park shortly before 9.30pm on Monday.

Scotland Yard said officers went to the street and found the victim 'suffering from what are believed to be knife and gunshot wounds'.

'Despite the efforts of medics, the male died at the scene,' the force said. An increased police presence was deployed in the area on Monday night as an investigation began.

The area surrounding the scene was sealed off and murder detectives were notified.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman confirmed a Stop and Search order had been implemented in the Borough of Newham, which will remain in place until 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Teenager 15, shot in leg in
drive-by attack in east London

A 15-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting in Newham, with the car involved found on fire minutes later, police said

The teen was shot in the leg and has been taken to hospital, but his injuries are not life threatening.

The attack took place in Harcourt Road just after 5.30pm on Thursday.

Scotland Yard said officers found a torched car in nearby Chesterton Road less than ten minutes later.

It is understood the car was the same vehicle involved in the shooting incident.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called to Harcourt Road, Newham, shortly after 17.31hrs on Thursday, 11 April to reports of gun shots.

“It was reported that a boy, aged 15, had received a gun shot injury to his leg after shots were fired from a car.

“The boy has been taken to hospital. His injury has been assessed as non life-threatening.

“Shortly after 17.40hrs, police received reports of a car on fire in Chesterton Road, E13.

“The London Fire Brigade were called to the scene.

“This car is believed to be the same vehicle involved in the shooting incident.

“There were no reported injuries from this incident.

“Crime scenes have been put in place at both locations. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”

Let us return to the law of:

SUPPLY AND DEMAND

No punishment = no deterrent

No deterrent = demand will increases

Increase in demand = increase of suppliers

Increase of suppliers = increase of drug gangs

Increase of drug gangs = increase of gang rivalry

Increase of gang rivalry = increase of violence

Increase of violence = increase in number of deaths

And the increase of number of people living in fear

Going to prison in the UK offers very little in the way of a deterrent

In UK 62% of prisoners enter prisons as drug addicts

UK spends £40,000 a year on each prisoner
They have heating, clothing, TV, games, sports equipment etc
AND
For a main meal they have a choice of 5 different meals; veggie, vegan and 3 others

UK spends £13,437 a year on a married couple of pensioners
Many UK pensioners live in poverty and find it difficult to pay their heating bills, or even afford one hot meal each day.

County lines gangs create latter-day mafia

Illegal drug dealing and 'county lines' gangs are creating a 'latter-day mafia' in 'narco state' Britain, police chief warns

Durham Police Chief Constable said old-fashioned police tactics won't help issue

Mike Barton explained that he instead urged his officers to think outside the box

He added that that there is a risk of 'narco-states' forming across the country
Illegal drug dealing and the prominence of so-called 'county lines' gangs are creating a 'latter-day mafia' in the UK, a prominent police chief has warned.

Durham Police Chief Constable Mike Barton has said that old-fashioned 'hackneyed' police tactics will not help tackle the issue, and says he has instead urged his officers to think outside the box.

He added that that there is a risk of 'narco-states' forming across the country, caused by money falling into the hands of criminals through the drugs trade.

Mr Barton was speaking shortly after being involved in a series of raids on Wednesday in which 16 people were arrested across Darlington and Newton Aycliffe on suspected drug offences.

The arrests were part of Operation Sentinel, a joint initiative between the Northumbria, Cleveland and Durham police forces to disrupt and prevent organised crime in the North East.

Mr Barton, who recently announced that he will retire on June 7, said when he took up the role of chief constable in 2012 that tackling such organised crime, like the drugs trade, would be high up his agenda.

But he said that, despite the work of 'truly inspirational and really brave people', drugs are now 'cheaper, stronger, more dangerous and more freely available'.

Voicing his view that the prohibition of certain drugs simply leads to money falling into the hands of potentially dangerous criminals, he said: 'We're creating a latter-day mafia in the UK, on the back of the Class A drugs trade.'

Making comparisons with the perceived growth of the mafia in 1920s America during the period of alcohol prohibition, he said that 'myopic' attitudes in the UK need to change.

Referencing his belief that the current prohibition on Class A drugs is not effective, he said: 'More arrests and more raids might look good in terms of us puffing our chests out in policing, but it will serve absolutely no purpose.

'The reason why we're arresting more and more people for county lines is because there's more of it.'

He added: 'On the evidence of the last 30 years, and the 39 years I've been in policing, it isn't working.

'I wish it was, and I started my policing career thinking it was. I've arrested more drug dealers and more serious villains than you can shake a stick at.

'It's worse now than it ever was. Drugs are stronger, more dangerous and more freely available than they ever have been.'

Mr Barton said that he and his colleagues have devoted much time to attempting to break up county lines gangs - where criminal networks funnel drugs from cities to towns and rural areas.

A characteristic of such groups is that the vulnerable - including people that are homeless, young, or single parents - are exploited by the network to sell illicit substances.

The police chief also warned about the practice of 'cuckooing', whereby county lines dealers take over a person's home and use it as their base for storing drugs, cash and, in some cases, weapons.

At the start of his tenure as chief constable, Mr Barton said he advocated an 'Al Capone' style of policing where, using the same method that officers employed to bring down the Chicago gangster, police bring down hardened criminals for lesser offences when they cannot be brought to justice for their more serious crimes.

When asked whether such a method could be used to bring prominent figures in the illegal drugs trade to justice, he explained: 'I think we've just got to be imaginative in the way that we tackle serious organised crime.

'Criminals are hugely adaptive to the landscape in which they operate, and if we keep using the same old tools, the same old hackneyed tactics, they're just going to run rings around us.

'So, all I advocate in my organisation is to keep changing the way that you operate.'

Teenager who attacked car with ‘zombie knife’ in broad daylight jailed for three-and-a-half years

A teenager filmed attacking a car with a large “zombie knife” in a London street has been jailed after judges ruled a suspended sentence was too lenient

Joshua Gardner, now 18, walked free from court in November after being convicted of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent, affray and possessing an offensive weapon.

An Old Bailey judge sentenced him to two years imprisonment but suspended the term for two years, meaning he would not go to jail unless he committed further offences.

On Wednesday, the solicitor general argued the sentence was insufficient at the Court of Appeal and judges jailed Gardner for three-and-a-half years. :ymapplause:

His original sentence was branded “ridiculous” by some commentators, with police officers taking to social media to voice their concern that the case would not act as a deterrent.

Judge Anuja Dhir QC was told that Gardner carried the large “zombie” knife because he had previously been kidnapped.

The court heard that the teenager was held for 10 days in March last year after being bundled into a car and threatened with a gun because of a friend’s drug debt.

Gardner, then 17, was forced to work in a “trap house” and sell drugs by the gang.

He launched his attack two months later, during afternoon rush hour on 30 May.

He pulled up on his bicycle alongside a car with a 19-year-old man inside while it was sat in stationary traffic in Croydon.

The car tried to pull away but almost hit Gardner’s bike and crashed, Gardner started kicking the vehicle and hitting the windows with his knife while trying to open the doors.

He eventually managed to smash the passenger window, and attempted to stab the victim through the hole before the man got out and fled.

The incident was witnessed by passers-by including parents who had collected their children from school.

Gardner’s outburst of violence was caught on dash-cam footage of a vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction.

The footage was circulated widely on social media, amid heightened public concern over record levels of knife crime, and Gardner was recognised and arrested by police.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the ruling showed there were “serious consequences for carrying a knife”.

Joshua Gardner, 18, was originally jailed for two years but the sentence was suspended (Metropolitan Police)

“I wrote to the attorney general in November to make the case that not giving Gardner a custodial sentence for aggressively wielding a zombie knife in broad daylight risked undermining public confidence,” he added.

Speaking outside the court the solicitor general, Robert Buckland QC MP, said Gardner had “terrorised” both his victim and members of the public who witnessed the attack.

He added: “I am pleased that the Court of Appeal has today decided that a custodial sentence is more appropriate to help prevent Gardner from posing a threat to anyone else.”

The Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme lets anyone, even those not involved in the case, ask for Crown Court sentences for particular offences to be reviewed if they believe it is too low.

Bounds Green stabbing: Teenager fighting
for life after being knifed in north London street

A teenager is fighting for life after he was knifed in a north London street

Police officers and paramedics raced to Bounds Green Road at the junction with Nightingale Road at 9.30pm on Friday night, after receiving reports of a man stabbed.

Once there, paramedics battled to help the 19-year-old, who was suffering from a single stab wound.

The teenager has been taken to hospital, where his condition has been described as life threatening.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “He received treatment at the scene before being taken to a central London hospital where his condition remains life-threatening.

“No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue and a crime scene remains in place”.

The violent attack comes one day after a 15-year-old schoolboy was shot in the leg in a drive-by shooting, in Newham.

Shots were fired from a car on Harcourt Road, just after 5.30pm on Thursday.

Scotland Yard said officers found a torched car in nearby Chesterton Road less than ten minutes later.
