A man was today fighting for life after being stabbed repeatedly in a residential south London street

Police were called to a fight in Fayland Avenue, Streatham, at about 11.30pm on Monday.

Officers and paramedics found a 24-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.

His condition in hospital remained critical on Tuesday.

The victim’s family has been informed as police investigate. No arrests have been made.

Police were called to Wellfield Road, Streatham, at 2.10am to reports of an injured man and another having a weapon.

Officers attended but there was no victim present, though he was admitted to hospital shortly after.

One nearby resident told the Standard: "I was in bed trying to get to sleep when I heard what sounded like four or five gunshots.

"Listening out for anything else, eventually there were a few sirens so I got up to take a look. Wellfield Road was cordoned off.

"There were several other police cars parked nearby and officers moving about near a house in the cordon. Other officers arrived and I heard something coming from the police radios about a male at a hospital with gunshot wounds."

Another person living on the street, who declined to be named, told the Standard: "The gunshots woke us up at around 2am.

"It was quite scary."

They also described hearing "commotion" in the street.

Other residents reported hearing "bangs" and being awoken by the noise, in social media posts from the early hours.

A Scotland Yard statement said: "Police were called at 2.10am on Monday, August 5 following reports of a man injured on Wellfield Road. Another man was reported to be in possession of an offensive weapon.

"Officers, including armed officers, and the London Ambulance Service attended but no victims or suspects were located at the scene. However, evidence of a firearms discharge was found.

"A short time later, a man - aged in his 20s - was dropped off at a central London hospital with gunshot injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition."

A crime scene remains in place as police investigate.

No arrests have been made.

New Cross stabbing: Teenage boy fights for life and another injured in double knife attack

Police and paramedics were scrambled to Woodpecker Road in New Cross to reports of an assault at 5.30pm Monday evening

Two teenagers, both males, were found suffering knife wounds and were rushed to hospital.

The first victim, 15, was in a critical condition and the second teenager, 18, suffered injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

A crime scene was in place in the street.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, Scotland Yard said.

Man cut with machete on second
night of Birmingham violence

Shots also fired where children were playing in Saltley, day after fatal Erdington shooting

Several shots were fired and a man was attacked with a machete in a residential area where children were playing in a second night of violence in Birmingham.

West Midlands police described the attack on Friday night as a “truly outrageous” outbreak of targeted gang violence in Saltley.

A day earlier, James Teer, 20, was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting just metres from his home in nearby Erdington.

Friday’s disorder began with a car chase in Washwood Heath Road involving a VW Golf and a blue BMW. The latter vehicle crashed into a wall by Silver Birch Close at around 6.40pm and the two occupants were targeted with a shotgun and a machete by two men wearing face coverings in a cul-de-sac where children were outside playing.

A 23-year-old man sustained cuts to his legs and remains in hospital, while another 23-year-old escaped with a minor graze from a shotgun pellet. He was discharged from hospital but arrested on suspicion of also possessing a firearm.

The attackers fled in the VW and efforts were under way to trace the vehicle and those responsible.

West Midlands police said: “Witnesses have told that several shots were fired and it’s very fortunate innocent people, including children, were not injured. We believe this was a targeted attack between rival groups.

“It’s simply not acceptable for people to engage in this level of violence in residential streets and we all need to work together to catch those responsible and send out a message that our communities won’t tolerate this.”

A postmortem examination on Teer’s body was to take place on Saturday afternoon.

West Midlands police said the two attacks were not thought to be linked.

Officers working on the Teer case were trawling CCTV, carrying out local enquiries and speaking to witnesses.

Detectives were keen to hear from anyone who had dash-cam footage of a dark coloured car in the area at the time that is understood to have been involved.

Birmingham police Supt Sarah Burton said: “We have a specially trained family liaison officer supporting James’s loved ones. They are totally devastated and inconsolable; they can’t comprehend what’s happened and want answers.

“This was an outrageous act in the early evening on one of our streets. One young man has lost his life and we are determined to bring the people responsible to justice.”

She said officers had been deployed in the area “to provide a visible reassurance”.

“There will be people in the community who know what’s happened and who was involved. I would ask them to do the right thing and get in touch – they can speak to us anonymously, we don’t need their names, just information to help us catch the killers.”

Johnson extends stop and search
measures to make 'criminals afraid'

Prime minister Boris Johnson has announced a major extension of stop and search powers for police

The move comes in a fresh bid to crack down on knife crime.

The Prime Minister also promised tougher sentencing laws for serious sexual and violent offenders, which he said will be backed up by investment in building thousands of new prison places.

Writing in the The Mail on Sunday, he said 8,000 more officers would be able to decide to deploy stop and search in an area without seeking the authorisation of a senior officer.

"I want the criminals to be afraid - not the public," he wrote

"That is why I am announcing today that in all 43 police authorities in England and Wales, we are making clear that the police can and should make use of their stop-and-search powers."

Mr Johnson said the Government was also investing £2.5 billion in creating 10,000 new prison spaces.

"At present, there are too many serious violent or sexual offenders who are coming out of prison long before they should," he wrote.

"This cannot go on. I am afraid that as a society we have no choice but to insist on tougher sentencing laws for serious sexual and violent offenders, and for those who carry knives."

Some of the UK's more left wing media outlets are trying to say that by clamping down on black crime the government is trying to calm the fears of the white middle class

I have previously mentioned my Jamaican Rasta friend. But perhaps some need reminding

My Rasta friend, an older gentleman widely loved and respected within the black population of South London, used to hold many dances and events for the black population and anyone else who cared to join in

With his friend, another Rasta, they used to help black children on the estates. They would feed them peanuts and Ital food, take them into the parks, play football and hold other activities with them

However, in recent years he has found that the older generation of black people are too frightened to attend the parties in case black youths enter and cause trouble

My friend has tried his hardest by bringing in famous black artists and DJs but the average black person in South London - NOT WHITE PERSON - is terrified of black youths and will not attend these events, most will not go out after dark

Younger black families live in fear of their children becoming involved with gangs or being a victim of gang crime

Many of those 'black' gang members are actually of mixed race and Jamaican ancestry, very few will be living with both their parents

Above is where the difference occurs. Smallies (non-Jamaicans) have closer knit family ties and are far less likely to be involved in gang crime or violence

Jamaica, unlike the smaller Caribbean islands, has a long history of gun violence

The metal knives were replace with plastic ones because of all the knife fights, security gates, security guards, everyone wearing security tags and still drugs get into the college and violent fights occur

Chicken Shop Drugs Gangs Recruit
Kids With Offer Of Free Food

This author and former gang member explains how "chicken shop gangs" recruit children to drug dealing with the promise of free food

An investigation has revealed a tactic dubbed "chicken shop grooming" as part of the Youth Select Committee’s investigation into the UK's knife crime epidemic.

Nequela Whittaker, youth worker, former gang member and author of Street Girl told Tom Swarbrick that school children have been groomed by older peers, often in Year 11 or Sixth Form in chicken shops in certain areas of South London for quite a while.

She said:"This is something that has been brought to my attention last year from quite a lot of young people that I was working with, quite a few parents had mentioned it to me as well."

She said gangs "victimise young people and groom them into a sense of false security" - and explained that means approaching young people who come from poorer backgrounds.

She said drug gangs will look out for children in a group who have "no money for the extra treats or sweets after school", they will approach them and offer to buy them food.

Chicken shop gangs offer to buy vulnerable children food

Ms Whittaker explained: "This occurs after school hours....young people often lurk for chicken and chips as the school meals aren't enough or to their taste."

She said the children will often be approached by an older peer who they "already have a semi-relationship with as they see them in passing" and will be offered food.

She said by Friday, if the young person hasn't got the money to pay them back for the chicken and chips: "that's when they get lured into okay, you need to take this bag, you need to hold this, you need to commute across the town to drop this A and B to this person, and that's where it all begins for a young person."

Reports say that children potentially as young as 7 are getting caught up in this "chicken shop tax".

Nequela Whittaker said creating more opportunities for young people that are being groomed into this lifestyle would be one way to tackle the issue.

Camden stabbing:
Man killed in north-west London

A man has been stabbed to death in north-west London

Police officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to Munster Square in Camden at about 23:10 BST on Monday.

The victim - whose age has not yet been released - was pronounced dead at the scene.

A murder investigation has been launched and a crime scene remains in place at Munster Square, Scotland Yard said.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information that could assist the investigation has been asked to contact the force.

Southwark stabbing: Boy 16 fighting
for life after being knifed in street

A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in the street in broad daylight in south-east London

Police scrambled to Southwark at around 5.55pm on Saturday after receiving reports of a fight in Dodson Street.

A 16-year-old boy was found with a stab injury in nearby London Road and was taken to hospital.

He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 15-year-old was also found suffering stab injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital for treatment.

His condition is not life-threatening, a police spokesman said.

Scotland Yard said: "Three males have been arrested on suspicion of GBH, they remain in custody.

"Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing."

Seven Sisters Road: Man 25
suffers life changing injuries

A man has suffered life-changing injuries after being stabbed in north London this afternoon

The incident happened on Seven Sisters Road at around 2.19pm.

An air ambulance reportedly landed at the scene, at the junction of St Ann's Road.

Scotland Yard initially said the victim's condition was life threatening, though hospital staff have now said they are life changing but he is expected to survive.

Further details of his injuries were unavailable.

No arrests have been made and a section 60 stop and search order has been put in place in the area.

after man stabbed during robbery

Police are hunting for five men after a man was stabbed during a suspected robbery in Kingston

Detectives said they were called to reports of five men fighting in Park Road, Norbiton, just before midnight on Monday.

An injured man made his own way to Kingston Hospital where he has since been discharged.

Officers believe he may have been the victim of a robbery.

The suspects made off from the scene shortly afterwards.

No arrests have been made and enquiries continue.

Boy 16 banged on doors for help
after being attacked with machete

A 16-year-old boy was chased and stabbed with a machete by three killers who ran away “laughing” as he bled to death in London’s latest horrific street murder, witnesses said today

Two of the attackers are said to have held the teenager as a third plunged a foot-long blade into his chest and back.

The victim banged on doors screaming “Help me, help me” but was said to have been turned away by terrified locals in Munster Square, near Regent’s Park.

Friends today paid tribute to the Arsenal supporter, saying he was “in the wrong place at the wrong time” and had been due to receive his GCSE results later this month.

His death just after 11pm last night marks the 90th murder inquiry opened by Scotland Yard so far this year. Fifteen of those victims have been teenagers, 14 of whom were fatally stabbed.

Just hours earlier, Prime Minister Boris Johnson had pledged to “come down hard” on violent crime with longer prison sentences and increased police stop and search powers, alongside new opportunities to prevent young people from becoming caught on “the conveyor belt to crime”.

Neighbours today told of the distressing scenes as the boy was pursued into the estate of family homes before being attack.

Rosanara Begum, 55, said: “The boy was running away from them. Then we saw the two boys holding him and the other one stabbing him.

“As soon as I heard ‘Help me, help me’ I was on the phone to the ambulance. He was bleeding a lot.

"The attackers were skinny and just looked like teenagers. They were running off and they were screaming and laughing."

Her daughter added: “We saw three boys all wearing hoods all covered in black, the middle one had a long black machete type knife. It was really long.

“The boy that was stabbed was banging on someone’s door saying ‘help me, help me’.”

A resident, 50, said: “He was there on the ground covered. He had been banging on doors for help. He was desperate. We are scared, he was only a young boy. It’s a friendly area.. it’s a tragedy.”

Another witness told how the victim’s coat became caught in a door as he was shut out by a terrified neighbour after knocking to seek help.

Naqeeb Khan, 44, said: “He banged on the door and the guy had opened the door and then closed it when they saw he’d been stabbed.

“I called to the people to open their door to release his jacket because he was bleeding a lot. About 15 minutes later police came.

“When I was screaming, another man came out who lived a few doors away and we pulled his jacket out of the door and laid him on the ground.

“He was bleeding a lot. I didn’t speak to him a lot because I didn’t want him to waste his breath. He was dying in front of me.

“I told him to be patient… that was the best I could do.”

A large police cordon remained in Munster Square this morning, and stretched across a number of nearby roads.

An 18-year-old friend of the victim said: “He was the loveliest guy. He was just waiting for his GCSE results and they were going to be good. He was bright.

“He was in the wrong place at the wrong time he had nothing to do with gangs or anything like that.

"We all play football on the estate together for years with no problem. We are devastated. Nothing like this has ever happened to us.”

Another friend said: “He loved football and was a big Arsenal fan he was looking forward to the Premiership season. He had everything to live for.

“It’s unbelievable. He was killed over nothing. If it can happen to him it could happen to any of us.”

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: “The senseless death of a 16-year-old boy in Camden last night is another example of how violent crime destroys lives and traumatises communities. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at approximately 11.10pm to reports of a male stabbed in Munster Square. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A crime scene remains in place. No arrests have been made and enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing.”

Newcastle shopping centre:
stabbing 7 teenagers arrested

Seven teenagers have been arrested after a man was stabbed to death in Newcastle city centre

The 52-year-old died in hospital after being assaulted outside a Greggs bakery near Old Eldon Square at about 18:20 BST on Wednesday.

Northumbria Police said it believes he was attacked with a screwdriver in a "chance encounter".

A 14-year-old, two 15-year-olds and four 17-year-olds are being held on suspicion of murder.

A force spokesman said it appeared there had been a "coming together" at the entrance to the shopping centre, which led to the victim receiving a single puncture wound to the chest.

He added: "Our investigation is ongoing but we have very quickly arrested seven teenagers in connection with the incident, one of which we believe to be the main suspect."

Man stabbed outside Home Office in London

The victim's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police said

Officers were called to the building in Marsham Street, near the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, at 13:06 BST. A man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The wounded man went into the building to seek assistance. The building is now in lockdown.

Eyewitness Gareth Milner said he was outside the Home Office when "a number of armed police officers arrived on scene and entered the building".

"Some time later a gentleman with quite a bloodied face and with dressing pressed into his face was escorted out of the Home Office by paramedics," said Mr Milner.

He said the man was "walking on his own two feet".

Samiulahaq Akbari, 22, was caught on CCTV walking into the Tesco Extra in Thornton Heath, south London, on January 8.

Akbari tapped a customer on the shoulder and asked for his nationality.

He then took a swing at the victim, Mr Speight, with a ten-inch kitchen knife when he said he was from the UK.

Mr Speight managed to kick Akbari off when he leapt on him and miraculously escaped from the scuffle without a mark on him.

Just ten minutes earlier Akbari had pulled a knife on two other men in separate establishments on the same road in Croydon and was said to be 'fuelled with the same intention'.

Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe told jurors: 'On that evening in January this year this defendant had set out deliberately to threaten, harm and kill members of the public by virtue of their nationality, or what Mr Akbari perceived to be their nationality - they were English.'

Akbari was convicted of attempted murder over the rampage which took place just 12 days after he was released from prison for another assault.

Judge Mark Dennis QC jailed him yesterday for 19 years with an extended licence period of two years.

The judge said: 'The report on you says you have a deep seated fixation which gave rise to serious violent situations when in drink.'

He added of the 'racially aggravated' attack: 'It was pure chance that no serious injuries were caused in the attempts to cause serious harm or killing someone.'

Akbari had first accosted John Hoy as he sat at a table in the kebab restaurant with three friends getting ready to eat having just come from a pool tournament at the pub nearby.

Jurors heard he 'aggressively and repeatedly' asked Mr Hoy where he was from before going behind the counter, arming himself with the huge red-handled knife and lunging at him.

One of the men tried to calm Akbari by saying Mr Hoy was 'one of us' but it was only when the men fought back that Akbari fled, Ms Stonecliffe said.

Akbari then made his way up to the pub where he confronted Barry Watkins as he was on his way out clutching his pool cue.

Jurors were shown CCTV footage of him marching Mr Watkins back inside to a group of men where he similarly demanded to know their nationality.

Akbari had pulled a knife on two other men in separate establishments on the same road in Croydon and was said to be driven 'with the same intention'

'He and his friends replied that they were English, at which point the defendant started lunging at them with the knife,' Ms Stonecliffe said.

The group 'perhaps somewhat heroically' managed to wedge a table between them and the knifeman, forcing Akbari again to flee.

Akbari claimed he was 'too drunk' to form any intention to kill but the prosecutor said his actions were 'deliberate and considered'.

'He knew exactly what he was doing and he took care not to be caught.'

Ms Stonecliffe read extracts from transcripts of the 'frantic' 999 calls made by Akbari's cousin in which he tells the operator: 'He said he wants to kill the English people. I can see his eyes, he's serious.'

Akbari was an asylum seeker who arrived in the UK in 2016 after fleeing torture in Afghanistan. He was jailed on August 14 for 19 years

In another he pleads: 'He will do it. He's trying to run and he will kill someone. Please come quickly.'

Mr Speight described in a statement how he was gripped with fear during the attack and told himself: 'This was it and I was about to die.'

Giving evidence, Akbari claimed he 'had not taken his medication' and was drunk at the time.

He said: 'My mind was not working properly'.

Akbari arrived in the UK in 2016 after fleeing torture in Afghanistan.
