The world is not full of doom and gloom:
Man played the same lottery numbers for 30 years and finally hit the $60million jackpot
A dad-of-three who played the same lottery numbers for 30 years has scooped a £49million ($60million) jackpot
Bon Truong, who emigrated to Canada from Vietnam in the 1970s, came forward on Wednesday as the sole winner of the top Lotto Max prize.
The professional gardener, who now lives in Edmonton, Alberta, won the draw on October 26, 2018 but decided to wait almost ten months before claiming his prize.
Overwhelmed by the implications of the win, he told the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC): “I started to think about what this win would mean for my family.”
Mr Truong speaks at a news conference in Alberta, Canada, on Wednesday – the day he came forward publicly as the jackpot winner
“I realised it’s going to change a lot of things and I wanted to make sure we were all ready and prepared for those changes.”
Mr Truong, who bought his ticket at a local casino, had two months left to claim his winnings before the ticket and the prize would have expired.
His winning numbers were 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 20 and 30, which he explained were a combination of important dates and family birthdays.
He said called his wife as soon as he discovered his win, but didn’t tell her that it was the joint largest Lotto Max jackpot in western Canada’s history.
Despite since coming forward publicly, he said his three young children still don’t know that their father is a multimillionaire.
"I don't want to let them know yet," he told a news conference in Alberta, drawing laughs from reporters.
"I don't want to tell them nothing ... Right now, I keep quiet."
