Massacre committed by Ukraine

A New York Times report suggests that the missile strike against Kostiantynivka was due to an unintentional launch of a Ukrainian air defense missile from a Buk launch system.

A recent investigative report published by The New York Times suggested that the missile strike on Kostiantynivka earlier, which was pinned on Russia, is in fact a mishap by the Ukrainian air defenses.

The missile strike on Kostiantynivka, on September 6, killed at least 15 civilians and injured tens.

Based on investigated evidence from missile fragments, satellite imagery, testimonies from witnesses, and social media posts, the report suggested that the devastating attack likely occurred due to an unintentional launch of a Ukrainian air defense missile from a Buk launch system
According to consulted air defense experts, the incident appears to be an accident in which a missile deviated from its intended path due to electronic malfunctions or damage to the guidance fin during launch.

Initially, Ukrainian authorities attempted to block The New York Times' journalists from reaching the missile debris and impact site shortly after the strike, but eventually, the reporters managed to reach the location, conduct witness interviews, and gather remnants of the used weapon.
Collected Evidence

Security camera footage indicated that the missile entered Kostiantynivka from the direction of Ukrainian-controlled territory, not from behind Russian lines.

In the footage, as the approaching missile's sound is heard, at least four pedestrians simultaneously turn their heads toward the source of the sound, facing the camera, which is in the direction of Ukrainian-held territory.

Just before impact, the missile's reflection can be seen as it passes over two parked cars, clearly demonstrating its path from the northwest. An explosives expert and analysis by The New York Times suggested that the resulting crater and damage pattern, extending from the point of detonation, align with the missile coming from the northwest
The evidence further indicated that minutes before the strike, the Ukrainian military launched two surface-to-air missiles from the town of Druzhkivka, located 10 miles northwest of Kostiantynivka, toward the Russian front line.

Reporters from The New York Times happened to be present in Druzhkivka and observed the launch of the first missile at 2 p.m., followed shortly by a second missile launch.

These launch times align with the timing of the missile that struck the Kostiantynivka market, occurring around 2:04 p.m.

The Missile

Kiev had alleged that the Kostiantynivka missile strike was fired from a Russian S300air defense system.

NYT investigations, however, show that the S-300 missile carries a different warhead from the one that exploded in Kostiantynivka.

The buildings nearest to the explosion exhibited numerous square or rectangular holes on their metal facades, likely resulting from cube-shaped objects expelled outward by the missile.

The dimensions of these holes, as well as the fragments discovered at the scene, correspond consistently with a specific type of weapon: the 9M38 missile, which is launched from the mobile Buk anti-aircraft vehicle.

These openings vary in size, with some measuring less than 10 millimeters in width, while others are slightly larger. Correspondingly, the 9M38 missile is equipped with two distinct sizes of solid-metal cubic fragments, measuring eight millimeters and 13 millimeters in diameter, respectively.

Two military bomb-disposal specialists, who opted for anonymity, reached the same conclusion, affirming that the fragments and the damage observed at the site of the strike are most compatible with a 9M38 missile.

Numerous witnesses reported either hearing or witnessing Ukrainian forces launching surface-to-air missiles from Druzhkivka towards Kostiantynivka at the moment of the market strike.

Lavrov at UN Security Council

Speaking at the United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting on Ukraine held in New York, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov brought up the Western countries role in meddling in Ukrainian affairs, noting there's evidence they engineered the crisis in that country

"Since the collapse of the USSR and the emergence of independent states in its place, the U.S. and its allies have blatantly and openly interfered in Ukraine's internal affairs," the minister said and added that "all the facts of how the Ukrainian crisis has been engineered have long been public, but attempts are being made to downplay them by all means, to undo the entire history leading up to 2014."

"As U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland publicly and even proudly admitted at the end of 2013, Washington spent $5 billion to educate obedient politicians of the West in Kiev, he said
The West ruined the implementation of the Minsk Agreement, "which consisted in the reunification of Donbas with Ukraine with guarantees of respect for fundamental human rights," said Lavrov, who pointed out that "it is directly responsible for the disintegration of Ukraine and the incitement of a civil war there."

Western countries, led by the U.S., proclaimed themselves capable of deciding on the fate of all mankind, Lavrov said and noted that "today, the West resorts to statutory norms and principles selectively, [...] solely according to its selfish geopolitical needs."

The foreign minister also warned about the growing risks of a global conflict. In this regard, he said that in the interest of steering events in a peaceful direction, "Russia insisted and insists that all provisions of the UN Charter must be respected and implemented not selectively, but in their entirety and in interconnection, including the principles of sovereign equality of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, respect for territorial integrity and the right of peoples to self-determination."

Lavrov noted the lack of arguments for a "sincere dialogue." Moscow "only listens to slogans: invasion, aggression and annexation. Not a word about the underlying causes of the problem, about how for many years they nurtured an openly Nazi regime that rewrote the results of World War II and the history of its own people," he added.

The West "avoids a substantive conversation based on facts and respect for all the requirements of the UN Charter. Apparently, it has no arguments for an honest dialogue," the foreign minister said.

Addressing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Lavrov noted that Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky had signed a decree banning negotiations. "If the U.S. is so interested in them, I think it will not be difficult to give the order to cancel this decree of Zelensky," he said.

While they do not stop talking about the territorial integrity of Ukraine, "the former colonial metropolises are silent on the UN decision on the need for Paris to return the so-called 'French Mayotte' to the Union of the Comoros Islands, for London to abandon the Chagos archipelago and to start negotiations with Buenos Aires on the Falkland Islands," the foreign minister said.

The head of the Russian diplomacy asserted that if NATO had not rejected the proposals for cooperation of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), "perhaps this would have made it possible to avoid many of the negative processes that led to the current European crisis, due to the fact that for decades they refused to listen to Russia or deceived it."

Lavrov noted as well that the Kiev regime cannot represent the residents of Crimea and Donbass, so the support of Western countries to Kiev after referendums in these regions violates the principle of self-determination. "The unconditional support of Western capitals for the actions of the criminal regime in Kiev is nothing but a violation of the principle of self-determination [of Crimea and Donbass] after gross interference in internal affairs," he said.

Czech's demand government resign

Czech protesters demand government to prioritize citizens over Ukraine

The Czech economy has remained sluggish for a year, and inflation is only gradually declining from record-high annual levels that reached 18% in September 2022.

Thousands of protesters marched in Prague on Saturday against the Czech government's center-right administration, accusing it of caring more about war-torn Ukraine than its own residents
On its website, the Non-parliamentary PRO party organizing the demonstration reported 101,662 people attending, while the Czech news agency CTK estimated turnout at under 10,000.

Protesters waved Czech flags and urged right-wing Prime Minister Petr Fiala's administration to resign, while also lamenting the EU member's economic slump.

The Czech economy has remained sluggish for a year, and inflation is only gradually declining from record-high annual levels that reached 18% in September 2022.

In Prague's central Wenceslas Square, one protester, Hana Smolikova, told AFP, "I'm here for the children, because that's our future, and I'm afraid of the future," adding that she was worried by the high prices "of everything".

Another protester, Pavel Husek, expressed that the government should "stop supporting only Ukraine and start paying attention to their citizens."

Fiala's five-party coalition government has offered millions in military help to Ukraine since the war began.

At the Czechia Against Government event, police also reported detaining someone wearing the Wagner group emblem.

Prague is not the only city to protest its country's involvement in Ukraine. In January, hundreds took part in a protest organized by the Polish patriotic organization "Compatriots – Comrades" in Warsaw to protest against the country's involvement in the Ukraine. Many also participated in similar protests in Washington in February
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Prague in July, seeking NATO membership and more weapons.

No more weapons to Kiev

French politician demands no more weapons shipments to Kiev. With this call, the head of the French eurosceptic group The Patriots is following Poland's suit, having announced ceasing sending weaponry to Ukraine

According to Florian Philippot, head of the French Euroskeptic group The Patriots, France should follow Poland's example and stop sending weapons to Ukraine since the country is not interested in finding a peaceful solution to end the war.

The Prime Minister of Poland announced yesterday that his country will cease sending weaponry to Ukraine in order to prioritize its own defense. This decision comes shortly after Warsaw called in Ukraine's ambassador, following a dispute over grain exports.

Ukraine took legal action against three of its European Union neighbors, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary, by filing lawsuits at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over their bans on Ukrainian grain imports.

Later in the day, Polish government spokesperson Piotr Muller stated that Warsaw was merely supplying weaponry in accordance with previously agreed-upon terms.

Philippot expressed on X: "This is a huge turning point, given that until now Poland was Kiev's first ally. The country now wants to invest in its own army. France must follow this example and stop supplying weapons and billions to the corrupt regime that will never seek peace."
In mid-July, President Emmanuel Macron announced that his government had decided to join the United Kingdom in providing Scalp missiles to Ukraine.

At the time, the former president of the French right-wing National Rally party and the current chairwoman of its parliamentary faction, Marine Le Pen, told Le Figaro that it was "irresponsible" of Macron to pledge long-range missiles to Ukraine.

"I do not understand why Emmanuel Macron is not integrally focused on organizing a conference for peace to put an end to this war," Le Pen was quoted as saying by the daily.

France has provided Ukraine with ample military aid ranging from equipment to fuel, ammo, and biological and chemical protection.

Ukrainian army demoralized

Citing a US official familiar with current intelligence, US journalist Seymour Hersh said that the US intelligence believes that the Ukrainian forces have become demoralized and have no chance of winning, adding that there currently exists no discussion in Kiev or the White House regarding a ceasefire

In a new post on his Substack account, Hersh said, "There are significant elements in the American intelligence community, relying on field reports and technical intelligence, who believe that the demoralized Ukraine army has given up on the possibility of overcoming the heavily mined three-tier Russian defense lines and taking the war to Crimea and the four oblasts seized and annexed by Russia. The reality is that Volodymyr Zelensky’s battered army no longer has any chance of a victory".

Hersh also noted there is no interest in peace talks. Quoting the official, Hersh continued that Ukraine's claims of incremental progress in the offensive constitute of "all lies".

The renowned investigative journalist reported last month that the CIA informed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that the Ukrainian counteroffensive would not likely yield results.

This information, said Hersh, came from a US intelligence official, who stated more specifically, that "the word was getting to him [Blinken] through the Agency [CIA] that the Ukrainian offense was not going to work. It was a show by Zelensky and there were some in the administration who believed his bullshit."

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has been calling on his Western allies for months to provide his military with long-range missiles, arguing that this could drastically improve the outcome of the counteroffensive. But before that, it was the anti-air missiles, the advanced offense tanks, heavily armored troop carriers, and the HIMARS system.

Ukraine is depleting resources at an unsustainable rate, firing 90,000 artillery rounds per month when the Pentagon is only capable of producing a third of that number, while also losing around 20 percent of NATO-provided weapons - that were either destroyed or damaged - within the first two weeks of the counteroffensive, which saw very limited ground gains since it was launched almost three months ago.

Ukraine hits Black Sea navy HQ

At least one person has been killed and a fire was sparked in Kyiv’s latest assault on the annexed peninsula, according to Russia

A Ukrainian missile attack has struck the headquarters of Moscow’s Black Sea fleet in annexed Crimea, killing at least one person and sparking a fire in Kyiv’s latest assault on the peninsula.

Ukraine has targeted Crimea throughout Russia’s offensive but attacks on military installations there have recently intensified as Kyiv has pledged to recapture the peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

“The headquarters of the fleet have been hit in an enemy missile attack,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, the governor of Crimea’s largest city Sevastopol, said on social media on Friday.

Razvozhayev said that missile fragments had fallen near a theatre and urged residents to stay clear of the site.

In a second post, he warned that another aerial attack could be imminent, urging residents of the city, which is home to more than 500,000 people, to remain indoors.

“Attention everyone! Another attack is possible. Please do not go to the city centre. Do not leave buildings,” he said.

“Everyone who is near the headquarters of the fleet – at the sound of the siren proceed to shelters,” Razvozhayev added.

He said rescue workers were at the scene, adding, “Firefighters are taking all measures to eliminate the fire as soon as possible.”

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said that “one serviceman was killed”, adding that five missiles had been shot down by air defence systems.

Later on Friday, the Moscow-appointed governor of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, said on Telegram that several cruise missiles had been intercepted over Crimea.

“Over the territory of the Republic of Crimea, air defence has shot down cruise missiles,” he said, without specifying how many missiles were shot down.

Later on Friday, Ukraine claimed responsibility for the attack on the navy HQ.

“Around 12:00 (0900 GMT), Ukraine’s Defence Forces launched a successful attack on the headquarters of the command of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia in the temporarily occupied Sevastopol,” the Ukrainian army’s communication department said on Telegram.

“I would like to thank the air force pilots once again,” Ukrainian air force commander Mykola Oleshchuk said after the strike.

Ukrainian and Russian attacks in and around the Black Sea have increased since Moscow withdrew from an accord that allowed safe passage to civilian cargo ships from three Ukrainian ports.

Ukraine has urged its allies to provide its armed forces with long-range missiles so it can target positions deeper inside Russia-controlled territory.

Western leaders have hesitated over concerns Ukraine could target Russian territory and thereby escalate the conflict.

Both France and the United Kingdom, however, have supplied Kyiv’s forces with the weapons

As part of the increasingly frequent barrages on Crimea, Ukraine said earlier this week it had struck a military airfield near the town of Saky.

A source in Ukraine’s SBU security service said there were at least a dozen warplanes and Pantsir missile defence systems at the airfield when the attack took place.

The airfield also housed a training centre for operators of drones that Russia has used to target Ukraine.

The SBU source said that Ukraine had deployed a swarm of unmanned aerial vehicles that “overwhelmed Russian air defences” and then launched Neptune cruise missiles.

Crimea bridge

Kyiv has also repeatedly targeted and hit – the only bridge that connects the peninsula to the Russian mainland, on several occasions leaving damage that took weeks to repair.

The last significant attack in July affected the road section of the bridge, which can also accommodate rail traffic and has also been used to transport military equipment.

Russian officials said on Friday that traffic across the bridge had been temporarily paused.

Civilian maritime traffic was stopped earlier on Friday in Sevastopol, Russian-installed authorities said, without providing details.

The Russian Defence Ministry said its forces had shot down one guided missile and two drones that had targeted the peninsula.

Missile hits Black Sea Fleet HQ

Ukraine claimed responsibility for a missile attack that struck the headquarters of Moscow's Black Sea fleet in annexed Crimea Friday, sparking a huge fire and leaving at least one Russian serviceman missing

The strike on the symbolic heart of Russia's Black Sea fleet marks a major blow for Moscow, which has suffered a string of attacks on the strategically important port in recent months.

Plumes of thick smoke could be seen pouring out of the Russian naval headquarters, video shared on social media showed, while officials said missile fragments had fallen close to a nearby theater.

"The headquarters of the fleet has been hit in an enemy missile attack," said Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Kremlin-installed governor of Sevastopol, Crimea's largest city.

Ukraine confirmed the strike had hit Moscow's naval command base on the peninsula, which Kyiv has vowed to take back since it was annexed by Russia in 2014.

"Ukraine's defense forces launched a successful attack on the headquarters of the command of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia in temporarily occupied Sevastopol," the Ukrainian army said on Telegram.

A spokesman for the Ukrainian navy told AFP the attack appeared to be a "missile hit," but declined to confirm Kyiv's involvement.

"These measures will continue in the future," the spokesman said.

Russia's Defense Ministry said one serviceman was missing following the attack, after having initially reported that he had been killed.

"The historic headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet were damaged," it said, claiming air defense systems had shot down five missiles.

The attack sparked a flurry of warnings from Kremlin-installed officials, who urged residents to stay indoors and avoid taking photos from the scene.

"Attention everyone! Another attack is possible. Please do not go to the city center. Do not leave buildings," said Razvozhayev, who governs the city of some 500,000 people.

"Everyone who is near the headquarters of the fleet — at the sound of the siren proceed to shelters," he added.

Rescue workers were at the scene, Razvozhayev said: "Firefighters are taking all measures to eliminate the fire as soon as possible."

The peninsula was simultaneously hit by an "unprecedented cyberattack" on its internet providers, according to Oleg Kryuchkov, an adviser to annexed Crimea's governor.

Ukrainian and Russian attacks in and around the Black Sea have increased since Moscow withdrew from an agreement that allowed safe passage to civilian cargo ships from three Ukrainian ports.

Kyiv said this week it struck a military air base near the Crimean town of Saky, while Ukrainian forces have repeatedly targeted the sole bridge connecting the peninsula to the Russian mainland.

Russian officials said Friday that road traffic across the bridge had been temporarily halted, while maritime traffic was also briefly stopped following the attack on Sevastopol.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited Washington this week, has urged his allies to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles so it can target positions deeper inside Russia-controlled territory.

End to killing of children

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shares a video message with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of a Lugansk local urging an end to the killing of children in Donbass

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has presented a video message to United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, urging an end to the killing of children in Donetsk.

The Minister handed over to the UN Secretary-General a booklet titled Ukrainian Crimes against Humanity (2022-2023) by Maxim Grigoryev, a member of the Russian Civic Chamber and Director of the Foundation for the Study of Democracy
He also shared a video of a student in Lugansk, Valina Savinkova, in which she implored for an end to the killing of children in Donetsk at the hands of the Kiev government. The message also called for a halt to the shelling of peaceful homes and schools, with the aim of curbing the supply of Western chemical weapons to Ukraine.

The ministry further stated that the video was captured by Sputnik and was broadcast during a meeting between Lavrov and Guterres at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

It was reported earlier this month that Ukrainian forces launched 92 artillery attacks on the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) within the span of 24 hours: wounding three civilians.

Earlier this week, Russia’s South group of troops repelled seven attacks in the Donetsk direction.

Heavy losses in 24 hours

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that Ukrainian forces had suffered substantial casualties in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions over the past 24 hours

The toll of Ukrainian troops lost during this period was reported to be approximately 340. In the Donetsk direction, Russian forces successfully defended against four separate attacks near the cities of Krasnohorivka and Marinka, as well as the villages of Khimik and Vesele.

The Russian Defense Ministry provided a detailed breakdown of the losses suffered by Ukrainian troops in this area: 305 troops, two armored vehicles, seven cars, and a US-made M777 artillery system.

Meanwhile, in the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukraine reportedly lost up to 35 service members, along with a US-made M109 Paladin artillery system and several other combat assets. The Russian military also noted that they had improved their tactical positions, successfully repelling an attack by a Ukrainian mechanized brigade near Vesele.

The Southern Donetsk direction witnessed Ukrainian losses totaling 110 troops, two armed vehicles, three cars, and two D-20 artillery weapons, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Further intensifying the situation, in the Krasnyi Lyman direction, Russian forces repelled two attacks, resulting in the elimination of over 50 Ukrainian troops, two armed vehicles, two cars, and a D-20 howitzer, the ministry reported.

Yesterday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Ukrainian forces suffered losses of 3,600 troops in the last week mainly in the Donetsk, Southern Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Kupiansk directions in the previous week.

Last week, Ukrainian media reported that almost nine out of every ten Ukrainian draftees who enlisted in the army a year ago have either been killed or injured in combat.

Russian forces repelled 28 assaults in the Donetsk direction, near the cities of Avdiivka and Marinka, as well as the settlement of Klishchiivka.

"For the past week, Ukraine's losses to air, missile, and artillery strikes amounted to over 1,455 military dead or injured, 16 tanks and over armed vehicles, 25 cars, 15 artillery weapons, and three multiple-launch rocket systems. Besides, three shell storage facilities have been destroyed," the Ministry detailed.

Russian soldiers repelled five raids in the direction of Southern Donetsk, destroying almost 950 men, 14 armed vehicles, 32 motor vehicles, and five artillery weapons.

The ministry detailed how Ukrainian troops lost 445 military troops and 35 cars while attempting to cross the Dnipro River in the area of Kherson in an attempt to gain bridgeheads on the islands and the left bank of the river. Russian troops also stopped eight diversion-reconnaissance groups.

Ovation to WWII Nazi

During a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a 98-year-old former Nazi Ukrainian soldier, Yaroslav Hunka, who had served in a Waffen-SS division during WWII, received a standing ovation from the Canadian Parliament

Zelensky visited Canada on Friday, delivering a speech before the Parliament where he sought continued support in the Ukraine war. Following his visit to the United States, he engaged in discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Hunka was among the attendees when the Ukrainian president addressed the Canadian Parliament, recognizing the historical animosity between Ukraine and Russia.

The Canadian parliament gave a standing ovation to Yaroslav Hunk, a member of the 14th Waffen-SS division who fought on the side of Germany in WWII and took part in the Holocaust.
Every single person who applauded him is now officially a Naz! sympathiser. pic.twitter.com/Oh1I416myn
    — Denis Rogatyuk (@DenisRogatyuk) September 24, 2023
He was invited by spokesman Anthony Rota, who introduced him as a war veteran who served in the "1st Ukrainian Division."

Former Nazi soldier Hunka received praise and a standing ovation from those in attendance "for his role in combat during World War II." However, it's noteworthy that Hunka was a member of the Nazi Division 14 of the Waffen-SS, which has historical associations with Nazi Germany and had committed genocide against Poles and Jews in Western Ukraine.

When they focus on the fact that he was “fighting the Russians” during WW2, but leave out the part where the Russians were fighting the Nazis… and Yaroslav Hunk was fighting the Russians *with Nazi Germany* https://t.co/7ptnGMwILL
    — Rachel Blevins (@RachBlevins) September 24, 2023
This issue triggered significant outrage on social media, as Canadian journalists and activists from various backgrounds pointed out that this individual's history had been glossed over by veterans' organizations in Western countries.

Others expressed astonishment at the recognition of "an immigrant who served in a military unit of the Third Reich and faced accusations of committing 'war crimes.'"

These are photos of SS Galicia Division veteran who was given standing ovation by Canadian parliament, prime-minister of Canada and president of Ukraine. He published these photos of himself in this division during training in Germany. He is standing in the middle in 1st photo,… pic.twitter.com/YkfKZbJ1i7
    — Ivan Katchanovski (@I_Katchanovski) September 24, 2023
It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized on multiple occasions that Russian soldiers are fighting "to liberate their homeland from Nazism," underscoring the importance of preventing the resurgence of Nazism, which inflicted considerable suffering on various nations.

Not only were Ukrainian Nazis involved in the death camps killing millions of Poles, they were also involved in horrendous medical experiments on Poles from which very few survived

The Polish government must be under a great deal of pressure from the US to force them to support Ukraine because the Polish population certainly do not

Nord Stream investigations

A joint investigation into the attacks that targeted the Nord Stream gas pipelines may put Danish-US relations and Danish arms supplies to Ukraine at risk

Barbin said the Danish prosecutor's office has claimed that working with Russia on the investigation "could jeopardize the national security of Denmark."

"In the context of the various and contradictory versions discussed in the media about the possible organizers of sabotage, this motivation raises many questions. Does this position of the Danish prosecutor’s office express fears in Copenhagen that the Russian side may find out something that will create risks for Denmark’s cooperation with the United States in the security sphere or Denmark's supply of weapons to Ukraine? Perhaps this is the reason for the total secrecy of the investigation into the terrorist attack on the pan-European energy infrastructure that took place a year ago?" Barbin stated.

On September 26, 2022, there were explosions at three of the four strings of Nord Stream 1 and 2 underwater pipelines, which are designed to transport a total of 110 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to Europe each year.

Separate investigations were launched by Germany, Denmark, and Sweden into the suspected sabotage, with German media reporting trust issues among the three EU nations.

Sources familiar with the investigation into the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions have confirmed media reports that traces lead to Ukraine
German news outlets added that there is growing evidence that agents linked to Ukraine may be behind the attacks on the Nord Stream pipelines. The news outlets noted that they were in Ukraine before and after the explosions in the Baltic Sea, citing technical data.

In June, a report by The Washington Post said the CIA knew through a European spy agency, three months before the sabotage attack, that members of a Ukrainian special operations team intended to blow up the Nord Stream pipeline
The yacht involved, according to the investigators, was loaded with explosives and made a deviation from its original route into Polish waters from the Danish island of Christianso.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office of Germany confirmed in March that searches had been carried out on a ship that was carrying explosives to blow up the Nord Stream gas pipelines.

Speaker apologizes for hailing Nazi

This comes after 98-year-old Yaroslav Hunka received a standing ovation following a speech by Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky to Canada's parliament

The Speaker of Canada's House of Commons has issued an apology for commending an individual during a parliamentary session who had served in a Nazi military unit during World War II.

During a speech by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday, a 98-year-old former Nazi Ukrainian soldier, Yaroslav Hunka, who had served in a Waffen-SS division during WWII, received a standing ovation from the Canadian Parliament.

At the time, Speaker Anthony Rota brought attention to him and introduced Hunka as a war hero who had served in the First Ukrainian Division.

“In my remarks following the address of the president of Ukraine, I recognized an individual in the gallery. I have subsequently become aware of more information which causes me to regret my decision to do so,” Rota stated.

He further claimed that neither his fellow parliament members nor the Ukrainian delegation were informed of his intention to honor Hunka. Rota pointed out that Hunka hails from his electoral district.

“I particularly want to extend my deepest apologies to Jewish communities in Canada and around the world. I accept full responsibility for my action,” Rota said.

Scapegoating Rota!

Simultaneously, a statement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office indicated that Rota had apologized and acknowledged complete responsibility for extending the invitation to Hunka and for the acknowledgment in parliament.

“This was the right thing to do,” the statement said. “No advance notice was provided to the prime minister’s office, nor the Ukrainian delegation, about the invitation or the recognition.”

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies released a statement on Sunday, asserting that the division had been accountable for the mass killing of innocent civilians with an unprecedented degree of brutality and malevolence.

“An apology is owed to every Holocaust survivor and veteran of the second world war who fought the Nazis, and an explanation must be provided as to how this individual entered the hallowed halls of Canadian parliament and received recognition from the Speaker of the House and a standing ovation,” the statement said.

A member of the Canadian Parliament Sebastian Skamski expressed concern about the individual's historical background, stating that Trudeau's Liberal party would need to provide an explanation for why he was extended an invitation in the first place.

The big picture

Zelensky visited Canada on Friday, delivering a speech before the Parliament where he sought continued support in the Ukraine war. Following his visit to the United States, he engaged in discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Hunka was among the attendees when the Ukrainian President addressed the Canadian Parliament, recognizing the historical animosity between Ukraine and Russia.

Former Nazi soldier Hunka received praise and a standing ovation from those in attendance "for his role in combat during World War II." However, it's noteworthy that Hunka was a member of the Nazi Division 14 of the Waffen-SS, which has historical associations with Nazi Germany and had committed genocide against Poles and Jews in Western Ukraine
This issue triggered significant outrage on social media, as Canadian journalists and activists from various backgrounds pointed out that this individual's history had been glossed over by veterans' organizations in Western countries.

Others expressed astonishment at the recognition of "an immigrant who served in a military unit of the Third Reich and faced accusations of committing 'war crimes'."

It is worth noting that Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized, on multiple occasions, that Russian soldiers are fighting "to liberate their homeland from Nazism," underscoring the importance of preventing the resurgence of Nazism, which inflicted considerable suffering on various nations

Paradoxes of democracy

Elections take place in Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine while authoritarian rule prevails in Kiev-controlled regions

The Ukrainian authorities even before the 2014 coup were always very wary of any referendum initiatives or even polls addressing 'uncomfortable' issues of language, culture, economic or social policies.

On September 10, elections to regional and municipal assemblies were held across the Russian Federation. For the first time, they were held under Russian law in the two Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk which formally became part of the Russian Federation in February 2022. Elections also took place in the two 'new territories', as they are called in Russia, of the Russian-controlled parts of Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions (that is, the areas of those two regions lying south and east of the Dnieper River).

Ukraine gov't does not like polls, referendums or even a census of its population

The governing regime in Ukraine as well as the Western countries allied with it condemned and refused to recognize the elections in the Donbass republics and new territories, just as they had earlier refused to recognize referendums in 2022 in all four territories to join the Russian Federation. International observers were threatened with all kinds of sanctions if they dared to witness and report the voting, as many of the inhabitants of the regions would wish. On election day, September 10, the Ukrainian army shelled polling stations, destroying election materials and voting infrastructure. Officially, Ukraine treats participation in these elections as "high treason".

The Ukrainian authorities even before the 2014 coup were always very wary of any referendum initiatives or even polls addressing 'uncomfortable' issues of language, culture, economic or social policies. That's because results were predictable in opposing the official, ultranationalist course of successive Ukrainian governments since secession from the Soviet Union in 1990/91. For similar reasons, Ukraine has not even conducted a census since 2001, rebuffing urgent recommendations by the United Nations to conduct one. The reason for this refusal is that a census would have demonstrated a sharp population decline caused by the disastrous political and economic course of post-Soviet Ukraine.

Fictious populist parties fill a void and undermine genuine democracy

In elections since 1991, it has been common to create fictitious populist parties that can 'catch a wave' and score surprise election results. This was the case in 2021 with the 'Servant of the People' party created by Volodymyr Zelensky and his cohorts. He and his 'party' swept the 2021 elections to the presidency and to the legislature (Rada).

They did so by flirting with Russian-speaking voters as well as other voters opposed to, or uneasy with, the anti-Russia policies brought to the fore in Ukraine by the 2014 coup. They promised socially oriented policies and probes towards peace with Russia, but once in power immediately changed course to impose neoliberal policies, urge more NATO military intervention directed against Russia, and continue promoting right-wing, Ukrainian nationalism.

The actual absence of real democracy in post-Soviet Ukraine was always quietly approved by the Western countries. They have long simply slapped the label 'democratic' on the most dictatorial of regimes so long as they submit to a status of 'ally', that is underling, of the United States and NATO. Accordingly, any free election or referendum would not meet the standards of Western-style "democracy" if the results contradicted U.S. and NATO policies. Should such results occur, groups of pro-Western vigilantes and paramilitaries representing tiny portions of the electorate would be mobilized to conduct 'color revolutions' against elected officials getting in the way.

Had there been referendums on important issues in Ukraine before the upheavals and coup of late 2013/early 2014, the country would very likely have avoided the eight years of bloody civil war waged by Kiev against the Donbass republics and avoided the Russian military intervention begun on February 24, 2022
The world would not today be on the brink of nuclear conflict. Ukraine would have remained a neutral country with competing interests and allegiances being balanced; pro-socialist sentiments that are widespread in the east of the country would balance against the pro-capitalist and pro-European Union sentiments widely prevalent in the west. The country's economic relations would be balanced between the West and the Russia-led economic bloc to the east, while its multicultural and multilingual character would be intact. But it was precisely this genuine model of democracy that was done away with because it contradicted the fraudulent Western brand of 'democracy'.

Moldova threatened by Western-style 'democracy'

Something similar to the Ukrainian political crisis is now rising again in neighboring Moldova (population 2.6 million). Transnistria (the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, population app. 500,000) seceded from greater Moldova in the 1990s in reaction to Moldovan authorities embracing nationalism and pursuing cooperation with NATO.

This year, elections took place in the Autonomous Republic of Gagauzia (population app. 135,000). Located in the south of Moldova with its capital in the town of Comrat, the republic is predominantly populated by Gagauz, a Turkic people. Pro-Soviet sentiments have always been strong there.

The election of the Bashkan (president) of autonomous Gagauzia was won by the female Gagauz leader Eugenia Gutsol. But Moldovan President Maia Sandu has refused to recognize the vote, dismissing Gutsol for being "pro-Russian" and opposed to a pro-NATO course. In September, President Sandu declared that power in Gagauzia was now "in the hands of a pro-Russian criminal group". Prime Minister Dorin Recean added that his cabinet would not work with a politician who favored strengthening ties with Russia. Thus, the non-recognition of an inconvenient vote threatens tiny Moldova with another conflict with an entire people, the Gagauz.

Transnistria is mostly populated by Russian speakers, with a significant Ukrainian population in its north. Gagauzia has a large ethnic Bulgarian population in its southeast. It is obvious that the policy of ethnic nationalism being increasingly promoted by the central government in the capital could only lead to the political collapse of the country.

But let us return to the elections in former Ukrainian territories. During the regional elections across Russia on September 10, including the new, former Ukraine territories, little attention was paid to issues surrounding the military intervention in Ukraine and geopolitics. After all, these were elections to municipal and regional bodies, not for the presidency and the national government. Alexei Makarkin of the Russian Center for Political Technologies summarized the election campaign in the magazine Profile, writing, "The majority of voters would like to live their usual lives, while the candidates, of course, try their best to avoid interfering with this."

(One of the unexpected moments of the regional elections in Russia was the fact that American MMA boxer and anarcho-communist Jeff Monson, who has supported Donetsk in its conflict with Kiev and has become a Russian citizen, was elected as a deputy to the Kurultai (legislative assembly) of Bashkortostan, a Muslim autonomous republic of the Russian Federation. Monson had earlier condemned U.S. government policy and capitalism in general.)

Elections in Russia's two Donbass republics and its two new territories

The four new regions of the Russian Federation held elections on September 10 with the rest of the country. Vladimir Putin's United Russia party won the overwhelming majority of votes everywhere, from 74 percent to 83 percent. Second and third places were shared by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the Liberal-Democratic Party. The Party of Just Russia (social democrats) placed in fourth place everywhere except Zaporizhzhya region where it finished third, displacing the Communist Party.

The Donetsk Republic elected a regional assembly ('Peoples Council') of 90 deputies while the Lugansk Republic elected 50 deputies to a similarly named assembly. Zaporizhzhya elected 40 deputies to its 'Legislative Assembly', while Kherson elected 36 deputies to its 'Regional Duma'.

Residents of the new regions voted using Russian or Ukrainian passports as identification; displaced people from these regions living in other regions of the Russian Federation voted similarly. According to the Russian Central Electoral Committee, a total of 1,313 people were registered as candidates for regional parliaments in the new regions as of August 31. Ukrainian media tried to discredit the candidates by emphasizing their "low" social background. The vast majority of candidates in these regions were from the working classes. Many were housewives, students, pensioners, and unemployed, which was ridiculed by Kyiv.

Among the well-known Ukrainian personalities who ran for office were the acting leaders of the Zaporizhzhya region (Yevgeny Balitsky), Kherson region (Vladimir Saldo), and the incumbent leaders of the two Donbass republics. Candidate Dmytro Tabachnyk in Zaporizhzhya region was the head of the administration of former Ukraine president Leonid Kuchma (1994 to 2005) and also a former education minister (2010 to 2014).

Many of the candidates on the lists were previously members of parties banned in Ukraine, including the Communist Party of Ukraine, the Opposition Platform, the Sharij Party, and the Socialist Party.

Voter turnout in the new regions (former Ukrainian regions) was much higher than in the existing Russian regions. While the average turnout in the Russian Federation was 43.5%, in the new territories it ranged from 65% to 94%. In the Donetsk Republic, it was 94.34% and in the Lugansk Republic, it was 72.53%. Turnout in the Kherson region was 65.14%, while in the Zaporizhzhya region, it was about 70%. High voter turnout is also characteristic of Crimea since 2014.

The new regions of the Russian Federation are, as a rule, more loyal to Moscow than to Russian regions per se. Voting there under new and different laws for new and different parties as well as fears of possible retribution by Ukraine may have lowered slightly the turnout.

Predictably, Ukraine and the Western countries have dismissed the election figures. No official representatives from there were willing to observe and monitor the voting and counting process. The Russian Federation responded to disparaging Western comments by saying that the elections were an "internal" affair.

In Ukraine itself, elections are not likely to be held soon. The head of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, Alexey Danilov, warned earlier in September that elections in Ukraine could be used by Russia for "destabilization".

"The holding of elections in the conditions in which our country finds itself is simply an issue of internal destabilization," Danilov said. He also said that elections require discussion and debate, and public political discussion is impossible in today's Ukraine because those in Ukraine holding pro-Russian views have not yet been purged from all institutions of government and the state.

Corruption remains intractable in Ukraine

The reluctance to hold elections is related to Zelensky's falling ratings. A poll published in Ukraine in September showed that 78 percent of Ukrainians believe that Zelensky is personally responsible for corruption in the government and local administrations. The New York Times recently published an analysis of Ukraine headlines 'Corruption is an existential threat to Ukraine, and Ukrainians know it'
Corruption scandals in Ukraine do not cease for a single day. Entire shipments of humanitarian aid have been reported stolen. Payment of large bribes to avoid obligatory military service or in order to flee abroad is common. The military often purchases food and other supplies at much higher prices than prevailing market prices. Only recently in the Kiev region, the inoperative Trilessky distillery in the city of Zaporizhzhia was sold for the equivalent of US$176 by Ukraine's State Property Fund. The sale includes adjoining land of 104 hectares containing warehouses, fuel oil facilities, a locomotive depot, auto repair shop, cellars, workshops, alcohol storage facilities, and even a summer cinema.

Zelensky is considered by many Ukrainians as personally responsible for all these problems, in part due to his earlier actions in effectively suppressing the operations of local self-government in the country, replacing elected bodies in a number of regions with military administrations appointed by him. The elected mayors of a number of cities were removed from power under various pretexts, described in detail by no less than the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a leading U.S. think tank in Washington.

The post-2014 government and state in Ukraine is highly centralized government with few real powers exercised by local or regional governments. Western media chooses to completely overlook this. The Carnegie analysis explains, "The government is increasingly undermining the very idea of local self-government." It continues, "The standoff between the central government and the mayors in Ukraine has been going on since the 2020 local elections, the last major vote before Russia’s invasion. Back then, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Servant of the People party was defeated in the mayoral elections in key cities."

The authoritarianism and dictatorship that Zelensky has built in Ukraine has a flip side working very much to its detriment and that of its allies. The Ukrainian Telegram channel 'Kriogen' explains: "With such an unprecedented concentration of power in the hands of one person and one political force, there is no one else to whom to shift responsibility."

Notwithstanding all the evidence to the contrary, Western governments and media continue to present Ukraine as a democracy while dismissing Russia and its elected local, regional and national governments as "authoritarian".

Canadian Speaker resigns

The furor helped tarnish the visit by Zelensky, who thanked Canada for the billions of dollars in aid and weapons it has provided since the conflict with Russia began last year

Canada's Speaker of the House of Commons for the lower chamber announced on Tuesday his resignation, just a few days after he faced criticism for publicly praising a former Nazi soldier in Parliament. This incident was cited by Russia as a justification for its war in Ukraine.

Canadian House Speaker Anthony Rota acknowledged an error in inviting 98-year-old ex-soldier Yaroslav Hunka to a session honoring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Rota's public praise of Hunka later revealed to have served in an SS unit during World War Two, led to controversy and his resignation, with Russia calling the incident outrageous.

"That public recognition has caused pain to individuals and communities, including the Jewish community in Canada and around the world ... I accept full responsibility for my actions," said Rota, a member of the ruling Liberal party, adding his resignation would take effect on Wednesday.

The furor helped tarnish the visit by Zelensky, who thanked Canada for the billions of dollars in aid and weapons it has provided since the conflict with Russia began last year.

Foreign Minister Melanie Joly had previously suggested Rota's resignation, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urged him to reconsider his decision.

Although opposition parties pointed to alleged shortcomings in Trudeau's Liberal government, Rota asserted sole responsibility for the situation. It's worth noting that Hunka resides in Rota's parliamentary constituency.

The Speaker is being made a scapegoat, his resignation dose NOT mitigate the fact that a large number of elected government officials and MPs all praised the NAZI murderer and EVERY single one who did so MUST resign

Now the entire world knows that Canada knowingly supports NAZIS
