Turkey Freezes PKK Assets
Turkey has taken a decisive step in its ongoing efforts against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) by freezing the local assets of 20 organizations and 62 individuals across Australia, Japan, and various European nations
The announcement, published in the Official Gazette on Wednesday, cites alleged ties with the PKK as the basis for the move, as cited by Reuters.
The Turkish Ministry of Treasury and Finance emphasized that the decision was made "based on the existence of reasonable grounds" indicating that the entities in question had committed acts falling within the scope of the law on preventing the financing of terrorism.
Among the affected organizations, three are based in Germany and Switzerland each, countries that host significant Kurdish diasporas. The list also includes two organizations each from Australia, Italy, and Japan. Additional entities targeted are located in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the Iraq-Syria region.
Responding to the allegations, a spokesperson for Insamlingsstiftelsen Kurdiska Roda Solen, the sole Swedish organization on the list, stated that the group is a humanitarian aid organization with no operations or assets in Turkey.
The move comes against the backdrop of a longstanding military conflict between Turkey and the PKK, with Turkey designating the PKK as a "terrorist organization." The Kurdish question has been a source of tension between the two sides for more than three decades.
