But it's not a "new dance" if that's what you think... It's just how they choose to dance it... I mean it's just another standard traditional Kurdish dance which these girls have pimped up...

There is no such thing as dances between couples in Kurdish dances... The traditional dances of Kurdistan are circle dances - where both boys and girls join in - holding hands, going either towards the right or the left...

Raman dear, "Halay" is Turkish, "Govend" is Kurdish and "Dabka" is Arabic for the SAME thing... They're not different "styles" or whatever...

It's like Norwegians calling Nan for "Nan brød" = "Nan bread"... It's saying the same thing in two languages - doubling it's meaning: "Bread bread" if you see what I mean... :)

In Kurdish we have two names for our dances: Govend - which is used by Kurmancî and Zazakî speaking Kurds - and Helperke - which is used by Soranî and Goranî speaking Kurds...

In addition to these terms - which explisitly refere to Kurdish dance - there are several other Kurdish terms for just "Dance" = Şahî, Sema, Reqs (from Arabic), Dans (from Europe) etc...

Yes - we just do our dances, which are traditionally circle dances - with exceptions of course... There are some dances in which dancers dance separately - but still dancing in circles...

By the way, not to step outside the topic, but....
Hes anyone heard of a dance called Dibê...or Dîko? both of these are very interesting and they mimic the animal for which they are named.

I got the Dîk (Rooster) - but I didn't get the other one... Dib... Which animal is that?

It's not off-topic, by the way... :)

Supas Diri bira
Dib refers to a hirch or a bear. Dibê is actually the feminine form for a bear, and Diko is of course masculine. I am assuming that these dances are similar to what these animals do. I have actually seen the young boys doing Diko before. It is hard, but rather beautiful
In my parents village, there is always talk of this dance that the old timers apparently do. I; however, have never seen it and wondered if anyone else might have heard of it.
