Kiss the Dust

PostAuthor: matin123 » Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:11 pm

Has anyone here read the book "Kiss the Dust" by Elizabeth Laird? I read it a couple years ago, it"s a pretty good book. It's about a Kurdish family from Silemani during the Iran-Iraq war. I just wanted to know if anyone else has read it and what you thought of it. Her'es the summary:

12 year-old Tara Hawrami lives a normal life in Iraq-- until the day she sees a boy, a Kurd like herself, get shot by soldiers in the street. But Tara still doesn't realize just how dangerous life for the Kurds has become until the Iraqi secret police come for her father. Then her family must flee their home for the mountains of Kurdistan, but even there they are not safe. Iraqi bombs drive the Hawramis over the border into Iran whee they must live in a brutal refugee camp. Will they ever find a place they can truly call home again?

I haven't read it, but it seems like it would be sad and interesting.

I see it's listed on amazon.com for only $6.99. I'm going to buy it. :)

It's a pretty good story. It's similar to what many Kurds have experienced. It's a very short book though. And it uses simple words, so it's easy to read. :D Let me know what you think of it. I hope you enjoy it.
