To my fellow female Kurds who have grown up outside the motherland,
So you don’t want to marry a Kurd from back home but you want to marry an Arab/Turk/Iranian who grew up here? Pick up a history book love...think of your kids and how messed up they’ll be.
Stop sucking up to your Arab girlfriends and inserting ‘habibi’ into every sentence. One day you will ‘habibi’ me so much I will head butt you.
You’re Kurdish, not Iraqi/Iranian/Syrian/Turkish/Armenian/Russian or anything else. Be proud and get it right.
If you see another Kurdish boy/girl with another Kurdish/non Kurdish boy/girl, don’t go spreading rumours, everyone deserves a private life so let’s stop the gossip culture. ‘But I tell my Mum everything!’ Yes and your Mum tells everyone.
When you go back home, don’t look down on your cousins because they don’t wear Topshop/Topman clothes or can’t speak English. You have more in common than you think.
If your Kurdish sucks instead of being mute and unsociable whenever you’re around a Kurd, speak up and improve it.
Stop complaining about everything Kurdistan doesn’t have that the West does have. There might not be a Starbucks but there are ancient historical sites, breathtaking views and the really cute animals. (I might be the only one interested in the latter)
Is your fasting related to a deep study of the Qur’an and its meaning or is it related to the fact your other Middle Eastern friends are doing so you don’t want to be left out? I swear you were elbow deep in yapragh when I came over to your house last weekend...
You have no idea how petty and childish you look when you do that thing when you giggle and whisper and make fun out of Kurds around you. Seriously, you come across as such a cold fish.
Your parents didn’t come to live in a foreign country so you could smoke ‘shisha’ in a cafe on Edgware Road. Not classy, very smelly.
So this is the third year you’re applying medicine...have you considered following your own dreams instead of your parents dreams?
Here we go again. I hope nobody is offended and it produces a few smiles.
