I confess to weighing just a teeny weeny bit more than I should do :o)

My weight gain is mostly on my stomach - probably due to me sitting eating crisps and chocolate which being unable to walk

Now that I am able to walk again - I need to strengthen my legs and lose weight

Returning to work means getting into business suits - OOPS!

Go see a walking therapist first. The most general thing you can do is get your basal metabolic rate calculated, and then from there count your calories. If you eat less than you burn, you'll automatically begin losing weight. Whatever you do.

there are some website where you can count all the calories you swallow in all a day. I use one (but in french) : you gave your height, your weight, your age and your daily activity : light, moderate, intense, etc.

Something like that :

http://www.active.com/fitness/calculato ... force_a2=y

Then it calculates the number of calories you can eat in a day. So each time you eat something you add the number of calories. It is a good way to eat only what you like ;) :

http://www.caloriescount.com

If you don't eat more calories you need, you'll lose. If you deprive yourself too much, you will take weight again more than before : the famous yoyo effect. So the best is to try to not eat more than you need, but not to starve.

The tricky thing is that (at least on the French website I use) the MORE you lose, the LESS you can eat. :ymdevil:

I have also an application on my smartphone than calculate the number of steps I do in a day and how calories I burn only by walking. My app is 'Accupedo' but it is not the only one.

Or you can just buy a pedometer :D

For a safe and sane diet, don't try to lose more than 1 kg each week. Losing more means just losing muscles and water, not fat.

1. the calculators you posted overestimate metabolism.
2. You can use hunger sating strategies to compensate for hunger. When i want to go down, i cut my calories 1400 calories, but i do hunger strategies to not relapse.
3.If you have extra fat deposit, your body will take the fat before it goes for your muscles, provided you don't go into fat saving mode, by eating enough.
4. You can eat more if you train, since training increase metabolism to expend energy for the exercise. This is why people say, to stay fit, you have to exercise.
5. You can lose more than 1kg a week, provided you're severely obese.

Keep in mind that a good diet has to last all a life. Many obese people became like that after many restrictive diets : they use their body to starve and then to store any calorie, so at the end they can take 4 pounds after having eaten a tomato… :-D

You are in love with chocolate, continue to eat it or you are going to depress. You can eat chocolate and refrain to eat other stuff you don't like very much and that you swallow without thinking.

And if you begin to walk again, you will lose faster. But if you walk, you will need to ENERGY so don't starve.

I have an idea : for all a day, note all you have eaten (without restriction, just as you do usually). And then, it would be easy to show what you can keep in your meal and what you can take off : if you put your age, your height, weight and activity in a automatic calculator, you'll just know the line what you should not pass.

Another important thing : industrial food is one of the main factor of obesity : full of hidden sugar and salt and fat. And so called 'light' or 'diet' food are often worse. So better to learn to cook :-D or to eat simple meals : for example if you eat spaghetti, better to eat simple spaghetti with a fresh tomato or a pure juice, a bit olive oil or butter than a plate of industrial lasagna.

I would be curious to read the complete menus of your day.

That isn't logically possible. You can't derive more energy from source. You might crave to eat more tomatoes. But one tomato won't make you fatter. You can avoid starvation mode, by eating enough, to keep the bodies metabolism intact.

Getting rid of caffeine and sugar addiction is the only way. Weight-loss isn't sustainable by eating chocolate, which has a energy value of 400-500 calories per gram(that's half a large meal, you can eat 400 grams of real food with that)

And if you begin to walk again, you will lose faster. But if you walk, you will need to ENERGY so don't starve.

That depends on the formula. Some formulas overestimate metabolism and calorie needs. Just losing 600-700 calories takes 1 hour of intense continous exercise.

2 things to note. Cooked food loses some of its value. Almost all products, industrial or not, are forced to label their content.

Restrictive diets causes weight gain :

http://loosegarments.com/2011/05/05/die ... ight-gain/

So just eating what we need (no more no less) would be better. The main obstacle is to be realistic (especially for women) and do not try to become like anorexic top models of 14 years old.
