I disagree with the Middle East part religious evolution. According to Egyptian documents, the origin of the three major religions, 'Judaism, Christianity and Islam, comes from Ancient Egypt. All the basic rituals of these three religions are documents by Ancient Egyptians. Fruid, the psychoanalyst, was the first to disclose this theory.

Moses and Exodus story can be linked to Egyptian beliefs, and perhaps monotheism (originally, YWH was not the only God and could have a spouse) but Genesis myths and Abraham figure are undoubtedly Mesopotamian.

Zeitgeist stuff.

Christianity comes from Jesus Christ not Egypt or the pharaohs or the mummies or... I don't recall Set, Ra, Osiris, Horus, Apep, Anubis, or any other Egyptian god saying "I am the bread of Life" or "I am the way, truth, Life, and none comes to the Father but through Me."

Well Christianity has some strong judaic roots also, except for heretics marcionists.
