Hi. I'm a bit confused on the traditional Muslim beliefs of Kurds. It seems like in some ways Kurds (especially rural groups) are very conservative in areas of male and female roles, but dress and other folk traditions are very different from the conservative Islam of Shiite or Sunnis that I know about in Arab communities. For example, burkas or even hijab aren't common for Kurds. Can someone help me understand what traditional Kurdish Islam is like, especially in the villages and etc? Thanks!!

There is Kurdish islam (mostly sufism) and secular/traditional/tribal habits (not directly related to islam).
Moreover, i would say that in many cities of Kurdistan, islam is more conservative (influenced by salafism and Arab way of life).

In my valued opinion: Many Muslims are as confused about Islam as non-Muslims
The most important thing to remember is that Kurds did NOT become Muslims by choice
In fact very few people became Muslims by choice
Many African tribes became Muslims to protect themselves from Muslim slave hunters
The belief being that a Muslim cannot enslave another Muslim
