The Night of Hekatê

Tomorrow will see 2 important celebrations : Beaujolais nouveau and The Night of Hekatê : ... uveau-day/

Beaujolais nouveau is a French institution but I did not know that Hekatê was celebrated nowadays. The fun fact is that she is associated with moon crescent and then was especially venerated in Constantinople, because once she helped the city against invaders. When Turks seized it, they adopted her symbol : the Moon.

As Ottoman Empire was a major figure in Western Islam. this sign became a Muslim symbol.

So nowadays, all the moon crescents you can see on Islamic flags (and the Red Crescent) are inherited from a sulfurous Goddess who haunted crossroads by night… =))

Hekate (also spelled ‘Hecate’) is the Greek Goddess associated with magic, witchcraft, necromancy, the underworld, and childbirth. ... vember-16/

I think I will celebrate Hekatê by drinking Beaujolais nouveau :p
