cheap flights to Kurdistan & working there :)

PostAuthor: ProudKurdsWife-Helen » Sun Dec 09, 2012 4:15 am

Choni bashi ? Could any one help me please? I am currently trying to find the cheapest flights around to Kurdistan either Slemani or Hawler but the prices I have seen on the internet are just a criminal rip off & an absolute joke lol =)) There is no way on this earth that I would pay those prices!!! I would much rather suffer the waiting game at the Turkish border & enter via Zahko lol! :-w But if any one can help me & knows of any cheaper options I would be extremely grateful, thanks in advance. :) x

PS. what is your opinions on teaching EFOL/ESL(English as a second or foreign language)in Kurdistan's International schools or adult learning centres? As I have recently been offered a long term job contract to go there and do so, I am very nervous & a bit scared at just packing everything up & going to another country :-ss although I am thinking of going for a short holiday first to see how I like it, then I will contemplate the job offer as it doesn't begin till next year? Any good points or bad points greatly appreciated, as they have offered to provide free housing & schooling for my daughter whilst there, also obviously also paying a decent wage & have also said they will pay for any flights ect. so it doesn't sound all that bad, but I am sure some of you will know of good & bad experiences so I would love to hear from you, thanks in advance, zor supas :) x

good to see you here in RBK again :)
Kurdistan compared to other parts of middle east is more friendly to westerns, they actualy get excited to see foriegns and treat them specially, Kurds are shy people, so they might do things out of shyness that you might think it is wierd.

also it is a fastly developing country, (not yet a developed one) so sometimes it is stuck between modernity and old fashion life, I mean for example I dont think you would feel very comfortable if you wear a bikini and go outside to the city as you could do in western countries .

also online shopping is not like western countries, so it is not like you can deliver pizza by a click,
out of all if you have a mission and have a goal, living kurdistan could be a greate experience in your life, I mean you will have to compromise some of your habits , but get used to some new cool habbits.

as for any nation , there are good and bad people , stay with good people and they are very very friendly and they love to talk to you, they will treat you as their sister.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

If I knew a cheap way to go to Kurdistan I would have used for myself… 8-| Unfortunately, there is no cheap way to go by plane, except the annoying crossing-border from Silopi to Zakho.

Where would u stay ? Kurdish cities are very different each others. But in any case if you go now take warm clothes, winter is cold there.

 Thank you for your responses. I will just cross via Silope to Zahko as I am not paying those prices!! I have decided to give it a go for a 3 month contract :-D I will firstly go to stay with my Aunt in Slemani for 4weeks then next year take the teaching contract. My Aunt moved there with her Kurdish Husband last year although she is not too happy living there lol but I expected her to be like that she is far too liberal & doesn't take kindly to change, & I think she expected to live the same way she did in the UK & her husband she says has changed since returning home I would have personally anticipated that anyway as should she have done. Myself on the other hand I have reverted to Islam 2 years ago, & like the simple life, I already love the food so thats a plus lol, Love the culture & speak a little of the language so I am not doing too badly !. I currently live in a small village at the moment with more fields nearby than anything else. And my husband is more than happy for me to go as I can also visit my mother in law & the rest of his family & to assure them he is doing good & well & introduce them to our daughter who is 8 yrs old so she is exited also!, as he cannot travel back right now but Insha'Allah soon he will have his passport and we can finally go as a family. This will be my way of seeing whether or not I like the country as I went to Turkey before & I could not get my head around the attitude towards Kurdish people that highly upset me hence the reason for only staying 3 out of the agreed 4 weeks holiday! I can't stand to see people treated badly or spoken about in a dreadful manner it was awful the minute I mentioned I had a Kurdish husband the insults came thick & fast I was so nieve & didn't expect that one little bit! Never again would I stay in Turkey I will use the place simply to cross the border lol. But I must admit I have friends & family living in Kurdistan now mostly in either Hawler or Slemani & one family in Dukan & they have nothing but good to say about the people, the culture & all have said they were treated amazingly & with so much respect & they wouldn't change anything for the world !. The only bad stuff I have heard is that some of their mother in laws didn't like them at first but hey we can't have it all lol =)) So hopefully I will have a fantastic time & it will encourage me to want to move their with my husband & enjoy our life out there, tbh I can't wait now the nerves have passed & the exitment has kicked in! Zor Supas!

@ ProudKurdsWife-Helen

I envy you :D

I am also a teacher, but in England where I teach English as a second language.

I have had many Kurdish friends and students over the years and have to tell you that out of ALL the many and various different ethnic communities I have worked in, Kurds are the people I love best, and the people I choose as my friends :ymhug:

Kurdish ladies are the sweetest, gentlest, shyest and kindest ladies I have ever come across. And they all seem to have fantastic sense of humour

Kurdish men are very well behaved and have always shown me a great deal kindness, friendship and respect.

I know that, as a teacher, you will be afforded a great deal of respect in Kurdistan :ymhug:

I have only ever had 3 problems with Kurdish men
1) they never seem to understand that I actually enjoy working
2) I really do NOT want a Kurdish husband to protect me
3) many of them smoke far too much =))
Good Thoughts Good Words Good Deeds
