Hi all,

I'm from the Netherlands and have a Kurdish girlfriend.

I'm trying to learn more about Kurdish culture and the Kurdish language on this forum.

Although ny girlfriend already learned me some Kurdish words, I want to impress her and learn Kurdish. She was Born in Hawler, so Sorani would be the dialect that has most of my interest.

What do you mean by girlfriend? And are you going to marry her or what? And does her family know she has a boyfriend?

She's a very good friend whom I would like to give my heart.

And yes, if she'll have me, I would like to marry her.

Well I wish you the best of luck friend. You sound like a good guy. And I am sure someone can help you out here with Sorani, wish I could but I am trying to learn it just like you, however Kurmanji is my first choice.

That means alot, you'll need to meet with her family and negotiate. It's weird though, i thought north-west europeans only married other north-west europeans.

I know this means a lot, but she means a lot me. I want to learn as much as I can about Kurdish culture so I can do this, how It's supposed to be done.

Just be a nice, respectful and clean man. If you marry a kurd, you'll have to stop using drugs(which is common in netherlands), don't drink alcohol. If the family is muslim and conservative, converting to islam will also help. Other than that, you have to be dignified and staid, respectful and observant. I mean it's different with every family, depending on if they're religious/westernized/what political opinions they have.
