Designing his way to the future...

PostAuthor: Diri » Sat Apr 29, 2006 10:22 pm

Now I told some of you about my interest in fashion - and I even told you I was gonna put up my own website...
Well - that hasn't happened yet!

And since I feel a bit bad about that! ( ) I am gonna share a little of my fashion with all of you...

KEEP IN MIND, THAT THIS IS FROM 2004!!!

On the right hand - you will see - "Video: Sohrab" - click on my name and enjoy the enjoyable ( ) fashion show - but don't blame me for the bad directing... Although I did the coreography and chose the light and setting - I didn't direct the cameramen!

http://web.ukm.no/magasin/2004///detaljer.php?id=298&mid=33&did=S25.11.2003-18:55:01-1201

And guess what - I was wondering wether or not I "should post this in the "famous Kurds" thread??"!

My style has evolved a great deal since this collection - which I called "Baran" - "Rain" in Kurdish...

Now - I do a more ethnic and more Kurdish style... Before I used to do "Modern with a touch of Kurdish" - and I see I am steadily going to a "Kurdish with a modern touch" style...

Love to have some feedback...

Ah! Hell... Who are we kidding?!! I just love the attention... LOOL

Well - a little background info:

My interest in fashion started to take form when I was 15 - I started on my first collection "Seher" - "Sunrise"... So I have been doing fashion design for 6 years now! :) I have participated in several competitions and occasionally been hired to do fashion shows for people at conferances on culture and youth...

What I did? Well - what does a fashion designer do? :P
I design the clothes and I make them myself - in e.g. I do all the work alone, with my own hands... And I am currently working on my third collection...

The ladies at the fashion show you see here, are Norwegian - with the exception of one, whom is Bosniac...

:) If you have anymore questions... Feel free to ask...

Thank you darling! Very flattering words - you are too kind! :)

Believe it or not - my whole reason for starting with fashion, is a political one...

In Holland, six years ago - we visited an Azeri-Iranian family-friends... They showed this video-tape of their daughter, where she had done a show, with music, dance, songs and a fashion show...

Guess what? The whole show was done in the name of "Iranian-Azeri culture"... And guess what else? Yes, exactly, she had Kurdish Duhol û Zurna music, translated Kurdish lyrics into Azeri and Persian for the songs and the ladies were wearing Kurdish clothes at the fashion show.. :?

Believe me I got mad... It was VERY rude of them - making us watch what they called "Azeri-Iranian culture" - while most of it was Kurdish disguised as "Azeri-Iranian"...

So that was what woke me up in a way... When we left - I had decided that this wasn't gonna be the end of it... "People are stealing our culture and not even paying any respect, or crediting us for it"...

A lot of people sing in Kurdish... A lot have organized Kurdish dance groups... But how many Kurds design and lay claim to Kurdish fashion?

Only one person I know of - http://www.dellalondon.co.uk - does fashion... and I only found out about her two years ago...

For Kurds - culture and politics are so to speak the same... At least in the still occupied areas... Because practicing Kurdishness/being Kurdish (in e.g Kurdish culture) - is banned to various degrees... So we are politicized, if we like it or not... Some stand up and face this, others are like sheep...

I am not part of the pack of sheep...

My ambition is to make Kurdish fashion into popular fashion - to strenghten the position it already has, and to counter the influence the west has on Kurdish youth - concerning fashion...

It is my personal oppinion, that Kurdish clothes are the most beautiful clothes... And I am shocked each and every time I see Kurdish girls in western clothes at a Kurdish celebration or party...

Girls at this forum - for GOD's sake, PLEASE wear Kurdish clothes to Kurdish gatherings... It looks a BILLION times more beautiful, AND it looks DECENT...

That's my two cent, anyway...

Your previous question - regarding the audience...

This fashion show was done at a competiotion... So - there were other contestants, media, people from the entertainment buisness etc. who acted as audience...

Well - soon, if you aren't in a hurry to get married, you might just find a Dara Sor boutique in Sine...

Did you watch the video? In the video you will see two male models... But as you can see - I focus mainly on clothes for the ladies... You know ladies love fashion...

You follow a good way Dîrî. Kurdish traditionnal clothes were very beautiful, and the standardization of the same Western fashion is dull, as I dislike the new "islamic" clothes, hijeb and long coat and skirt... It would be fine to have a revival of beautiful Kurdish rengerengîn clothes, adapted at a current time.
