Hello All

PostAuthor: Amax » Mon Jan 15, 2007 8:39 pm

Hello everybody.
It's great to find a Kurdish forum in English.
I'm here to learn a little more about the culture/language and may do more reading than talking.
I am not Kurdish (American by birth) but I have a tremendous respect for the people.
Take care!

I love debate. I see debate as an intellectual "chess game" that encourages research and learning. I tend to try and take more of a scientific sanitized approach to discussions even when dealing with emotional topics.

Diri I would love to chime in but it will most likely be from my isolated American perspective. I'm afraid that with many of the cultural discussions I am limited in knowledge and am here to learn. Was it you who posted those wonderful pictures. I've looked for pics of Kurdistan everywhere and couldn't find. Thanks for sharing those.

For an English speaker how would you pronounce Bi xêr hatî?
I lived in Erbil for 2 months and have picked up numerous words but am bad with spelling and still learning the Latin alphabet.

Supas!

Awww :) Bless you...

Yes, I posted several educational posts, as matter of fact - the Kurdish dance (Govend / Halperke) thread and the Beautiful Kurdistan thread - I posted some pictures there that I took personally... :) Those are from Northern Kurdistan - but there are pictures and photos from all of Kurdistan in the initial post I made! :)

If you are interested in learning the Kurdish Latin alphabet - you could check out the Zimanê Kurdî section - there is a thread there ("Read this before posting"), which explains the sounds of the Kurdish Latin alphabet with examples from English words to illustrate the sounds... :)

Bi xêr hatî would be: B kher haati in English...

Why did you visit Hewler?
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Vlad, I was there on business and hope to go back.
It was a trip of a lifetime! And I have some awesome pictures that I'll post one day. Is anyone in this forum from there?

Thanks for the welcome Lyn! What state are you from? I'm an Alabama guy. :D

I think you´ll like California.

I found this online English /Kurdish dictionary. I´m not positive if it has accurate
translations though. http://www.namonet.com/dictionary.asp
