A quick hello

PostAuthor: Denroll » Sat Apr 28, 2007 4:06 am

Like the title says, I'm just hopping in here for a quick hello. I am currently doing some research for a paper I am writing on Kurdistan and I am very pleased with my findings. There is such a wonderful culture here that I knew so little about.

I am an American, currently a university student who is studying different parts of Asia. I also have a rather "unique" job. I have already been in contact with one of the members here who helped me immensely with my research. I'll let him reveal himself, but I'm sure you won't have a hard time guessing who he is  . He sent me some music by Aynur, which I am listening to now.

I will be sure to check in every now and then and partake in conversation. I must go finish this 20 page monster of a paper now.

Take care and thanks for having me,

-Dennis

Welcome Denroll :D

Was starting to worry... Thought maybe you were swimming in papers, articles, pens and penciles...

Sicpit joined the forum yesterday, another American... :) So happy to have you all here... Unlike the rest of the Middle East, Kurds actually LIKE you!

We have French, British, Italian, Canadian, Breton members too... :)

Dîsan, bi xêr hatî! ("Again, welcome!")

Glad to be here. I was up rather late last night and I still have 9 pages to go.

Today I am going to a museum where they are having an Asia exhibition. Hopefully I will see some Kurdish history.

This is the museum, which used to be an old train station. There's very interesting architecture inside and sout and it has one of the few Omni-Max theaters in existence:

It's pretty old, but the word "old" has different meaning in our countries

An Omni -Max theater is like a movie, but much better. You sit back and the screen is shaped like a giant dome (like a planetarium). When you look at the center of the screen, your entire field of vision is the screen. When the scene is moving, such as flying over a volcano, it feels as if you are really there. It is so neat. They have many "Discovery Channel" type shows.

This link can explain it:

I was a litle disappointed with the display yesterday. Almost everything was Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, and Indian. The only Japanese exhibition was Aikido, and it was all white people

Hmm, interesting. I did not know that.

Sorry, Abdur... no Dutch skills here. Maybe if it were French (petit peur) or just a little bit of Korean, Thai, or Tagalog
