I am an english woman and I am married to the most wonderful kurdish man in the world, we got married in Syria in November last year.
Unfortunately he is stuck in Kurdistan and I am stuck here at the moment, we are awaiting an appeal from the courts to decide if he can get a visa to come here (and I am sure I can read 90% of the minds reading this - married for visa) well read on if we are not successful on this appeal my son and I will be relocating to Kurdistan, I have been informed by the Iraqi embassy that I can apply for a visa and visit Kurdistan for about 3 months, but i cant stay there so, I guess we will be illegal after 3 months. I would love to hear from anyone else in this situation, if they have any advice.

Thanks for replying kurdangel, but my husband lives in a village near duhok, will that make a difference to my visa? Also Iraqi Embassy told me I would not be allowed to stay, but they would not put it in writing.

Hello Jacqueline and welcome to Roj bash
Iraqi Embassy is not a good souce to get information in regard to Kurdistan . If you are legaly married , you could apply for a permenant residency in Kurdistan once you get there . I'm ver sure of that
It will be also be very easy for you to get a Job as a teacher ,
Good luck , Dohuk is a beautiful , they call it " The Bride of Kurdistan "

Hello Talsor yes we are legally married twice so far we had first marriage with an imam I believe it is called a Nicar marriage. Then we went to the Syrian court and got married again and got our marriage certificate. I am hoping that he can come here first and we can get married under the english law, then if we decide to come back to uk at a later date, we wont have all this governments legal rubbish to deal with. My husband lives in a village outside Duhok near Turkish border, I have lots of pics of the area and you are right it is very beautiful over there. Unfortunately my husband does not want me to work, he wants to be the one to provide for me and my son, but I will bear that in mind because it will help me to pick up the kurdish language quicker. Thank you.

Hi and welcome Jacqueline, I hope you're well!
Like you, I'm English and married to a wonderful Kurdish man and honestly, I know what you're going through (been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, lol!) - I'm sure everything will be fine and you'll be back with your husband before you know it - good luck!
Take Care.

I had court today 16th september 08, for our appeal, I think it went really well, so I am praying that in a couple of weeks we will get acceptance letter. If we do and the horrible home office doesnt appeal, then my husband and I will be together again around the end of November 08.

Thanks Kurdiboy, but surely if you are kurdish then you can speak bahdini? I know a little but not enough to get by lol. I am sure my husband will teach me more when he comes ready for when we go back to kurdistan in a couple of years.
