ERBIL, May 23 (AKnews)- Two legal experts and two Kurdish language experts have prepared a bill for protection of Kurdish language.

Lawyer Tariq JambazIn the few coming days, those who drafted the bill hold a seminar in Erbil to enrich the bill before they finally submit it to Kurdistan Parliament, said Tareq Jambar who has contributed to the bill.

Jambar said article four of the Iraqi constitution allows for a law for regulating the official languages of the country. But so far the Iraqi House of Representatives has not ratified any such laws.

He continued "therefore, we at Kurdistan need not wait for the Iraqi law and can issue our own law."

Jambar thought "Kurdistan had to have a language law since 20 years ago," when the first Kurdish parliament was elected in 1992.

He said in the absence of such a law in the public places in Kurdistan people resort to the use of foreign names and words.

Besides, the language of instruction in Kurdistan in primary and high school is Kurdish while in some human sciences departments the students have to answer their examinations in languages other than Kurdish.

"Issuing a language law will prevent any spoiling Kurdish language," Jambar added.

This is surprising. Why isnt there such a law since 20 years ago?

The president, prime minister and parliament are to blame.
