Kurdish sayings?

PostAuthor: Benny » Sun Mar 20, 2016 3:21 pm

Hi everybody,

I recently heard a Chinese saying/expression - "The mountains are high and the emperor is far away" (something like that!). It supposedly should mean something like "if nobody asks then we won´t tell".

Do you have any favourite Kurdish sayings/expressions? If you do, please write if it´s in kurmanij or sorani or something else.

Best wishes/B

Benny

I like this one in Kurdish : 'Şêr şêr e, çi jin e, çi mêr e' : 'a lion is a lion, male or female' ; means that a brave is a brave, whatever the gender (and concerning Kurdish fighters, that's true).

Here is a few, which I heard from the village where I was brought up:

1-" don't tie a donkey near another. They don't take each other's colour but take each other's habits". It means don't mix with bad people.

2-="Jack Ass don't die from starvation, Spring is approaching". This is for the goals, which can not be achieved.

3-"He is the same jack ass, except his saddle has been changed". This is for some one who doesn't change for a better.
:D :)
