Man is shot dead on north London street

A man has died after a shooting in north London, where police have arrested three males on suspicion of murder.

Officers have confirmed that they were called to reports of a man suffering a gunshot wound in the borough of Enfield at about 9.15pm on Tuesday.

The victim, whose age is not yet known, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.10pm.

There were no reports of any other injuries at the scene in Edmonton, as police were pictured attending the incident in social media posts.

Cordons remain in place and officers are expected to be at the scene for some time, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police added.

Tower Hamlets stabbing: Three injured at health centre

Three people have been stabbed at a health centre in east London

Police were called just after 11:00 GMT to St Stephen's Health Centre in Tower Hamlets.

The three were taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said. A man has been detained and taken to hospital for treatment.

A video posted to social media showed a man with long hair, dressed only in underwear, being led in handcuffs to the back of a police van.

A cordon remains in place and inquiries are continuing.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We sent an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic, two ambulance crews and two single responders in cars to the scene. We also dispatched a response car from London's Air Ambulance.

"We treated four people at the scene. We took three of the four to a major trauma centre as a priority and one to hospital."

The incident is not being treated as terror-related, the Met Police said.

Tottenham stabbing: Young man knifed
to death off busy north London high street

A young man has been stabbed to death in an alleyway off a busy high street in north London

Emergency services were scrambled to Albert Place, off Tottenham High Road, at 1.20am on Saturday.

Police and paramedics found a man, who is believed to be in his 20s, with stab injuries.

He was rushed to an east London hospital but was pronounced dead just under an hour later.

Scotland Yard is working to identify of the victim and no arrests have been made.

Detective Chief Inspector Glen Lloyd, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re in the early stages of the investigation and at this stage we are working hard to piece together the chain of events that led to a young man losing his life.

“Only days before Christmas, a life has been senselessly taken and my team will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice as soon as possible.

“I am appealing to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant they think it may be, to come forward and speak to police. If there is a reluctance to speak to police, you can of course contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Formal identification awaits and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Tower Hamlets stabbing: Teen rushed to hospital
after being knifed during robbery in east London park

A teenager has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed during a suspected robbery in an east London park

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene of the incident in Mile End Park, not far from Mile End Tube station, shortly after 8pm on Friday.

The 19-year-old victim was rushed to hospital.

It is not known if his injuries are life threatening, Scotland Yard said.

A spokeswoman said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 8.18pm on Friday to reports of a man stabbed in Mile End Park close to Burdett Road.

“Officers attended. A 19-year-old man has been taken to an east London hospital. We await an update on his condition.

“At this early stage, it is thought that the victim may have been assaulted during a robbery.

“Officers remain at the scene.

Wilham Mendes: Boys charged with murder of boxer

Two 15-year-old boys have been charged with stabbing a keen boxer to death in north London

Wilham Mendes, a Portuguese national, was found injured after a suspected robbery in Albert Place, Tottenham, at about 01:20 GMT on Saturday. He died shortly afterwards.

The 25-year-old athlete had been in the UK since 2015 and was living in Tottenham, police previously said.

Two teenagers arrested on Sunday have been charged with murder.

They are also charged with robbery and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 26 December.

Is another year of knife crime ahead?

Steve Narvaez Jara had just seen in the new year at a party in Islington, north London

The 20-year-old had everything to look forward to: he was studying physics and aerospace at the University of Hertfordshire and hoped to become a pilot.

But shortly after midnight, the Ecuadorean was murdered - the first of more than 70 victims in London to be fatally stabbed in 2018. Three young men, arrested over the killing, remain under investigation.

On 3 January, 44-year-old Elizabeta Lacatusu was stabbed to death in Ilford by her ex-partner.

Five days later 34-year-old Daniel Frederick was stabbed in an unprovoked attack as he returned to his home in London. Five teenagers were jailed for his killing in October.

These deaths were the start of a terrible year for knife-related violence in England and Wales which has raised questions about policing, public services, gangs, drugs and youth culture.

The most recent set of figures, from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - covering the first six months of 2018 as well as the final half of 2017 - show that police recorded 39,332 offences involving a knife or sharp instrument, a 12% rise year-on-year, and the highest number since 2011.

Data from the Greater Manchester force were excluded from those figures because the ONS said they weren't directly comparable.

London had by far the highest rate of knife crime, with around 17 offences per 10,000 people, followed by West Yorkshire with 10.7 offences per 10,000 people, and the West Midlands which had 9.8 offences per 10,000 people.

The vast majority of knife crimes were robberies (16,801) or assaults (18,402); 263 were cases of murder or manslaughter, 50 more than the previous year.

Hammersmith stabbing prompts
39 attempted murder arrests

Thirty-nine people at a house party were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in west London

The man, thought to be in his mid-30s, was found with life-threatening wounds when police were called to Fulham Palace Road, Hammersmith, at 01:00 GMT.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim was chased by men and women following an argument in a shop.

The suspects were seen going into a house where there was a party.

Officers tried to speak to people in the house, but when they failed to cooperate 39 people were arrested.

They are being held in custody while inquiries continue.

The injured man was treated at the scene by officers and paramedics. He is in a critical condition in hospital.

Supt Mark Lawrence said the attack appeared to have stemmed from a "minor argument".

"Whilst it is unusual for so many people to be arrested in the early stages of an investigation such as this, due to a lack of co-operation and the necessity of securing essential evidence following a serious assault this action was appropriate," he said.

A tattoo parlour, the Southern Belle pub and a Sainsbury's Local supermarket are all within a police cordon, according to BBC Radio London's Greg McKenzie who has been reporting from the scene.

Blood was seen on the pavement within one of the three taped off areas.

Two knives were found nearby, said police.

Manchester Victoria station stabbing: Three injured

Three people - including a police officer - have been stabbed by a man wielding a knife at Manchester Victoria railway station

A man and woman were taken to hospital with knife injuries after the attack at about 20:50 GMT, British Transport Police (BTP) said. Their conditions are not known.

It said one of its officers suffered a stab wound to the shoulder.

A man has been arrested and the station is shut.

Officers remain at the scene.

The New Year celebrations went ahead in the city centre.

BBC 5 live producer Sam Clack, who had been at the station at the time, tweeted he had been "very close to the most terrifying thing".

He said he saw a man stabbed on a tram platform at the station, which is next to Manchester Arena, "feet from me".

He added he was "close to jumping on the tracks" as the attacker had a "long kitchen knife".

'Pure fear'

Mr Clack said he first "heard this most blood-curdling scream and looked down the platform".

"It looked like they were having a fight, but the woman was screaming in this blood-curdling way. I saw police in high-vis come towards him. He came towards me.

"I looked down and saw he had a kitchen knife with a black handle with a good, 12in blade. It was just fear, pure fear."

Mr Clack said he saw the attacked man - who he described as in his 60s - and the woman, who had been with him, "walk out of the station" with emergency crews.

He said police used pepper spray and a Taser on the detained man, who he said was "resisting arrest".

He said he saw "six or seven" officers on top of the man, who he described as "very skittish".

"He was very aggressive and very intent on causing more harm than he actually did," he said.

"It was very, very scary."

City councillor Pat Karney tweeted that Greater Manchester Police had given the go-ahead for the fireworks display at midnight in Albert Square.

He added security was going to be increased.

Manchester Metrolink said no trams would be calling at the station "at this time".

A knifeman shouting 'Allahu Akbar' has been arrested after stabbing three people in a brutal frenzy in Manchester Victoria station this evening.

Three people were stabbed in the attack at the city center transport hub, including one British Transport Police officer and a man and a woman, both in their 50s, who are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The attacker was said to have been armed with a 'long kitchen knife' and was pepper sprayed and tasered before being arrested by police officers, who were quickly on the scene.

BBC journalist Sam Clack who came within touching distance of the attacker, said he heard the man shout 'Allah' as he launched the terrifying frenzy.

While video posted on Snapchat after the man's arrest showed him shouting 'Allahu Akbar' as he was forced into the back of a police van.

Police confirmed on Monday evening the man had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

In an interview with BBC News in the immediate aftermath of the incident, Mr Clack said: 'It was pretty scary. It was just me on the platform and as I was standing there I heard the most blood-curdling scream I had ever heard from a woman nearby.

'It looked like there was a fight going on. I heard the guy starting 'Allah' distinctly. I didn't hear the rest of the sentence.'

'Police very quickly were on the platform and the guy started backing up towards me. And he got to within seven or eight feet of me and was looking around very skittish.

'I looked down and in his hand I saw that the man had a kitchen knife with a black handle and a long 12-inch blade.'

According to Mr Clack, one of the police officers then tried to taser the attacker, but missed, before another officer pepper sprayed the man and 'six or seven policemen' took him to the ground.

Then Mr Clack said as he tried to walk past and get away the attacker said: 'As long as you keep bombing other countries this sort of s**t is going to keep happening.'

Mr Clack, who had been out for drinks with friends earlier in the evening, said the victims of the attack were a man in his 60s, who was knifed in the head and the back, and a woman.

He said there was blood 'splattered' on the platform after the incident and the man's shirt was 'covered in blood'.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said the woman has injuries to her face and abdomen and the man has injuries to his abdomen, while a BTP officer has a stab wound in his shoulder - all of which are described as 'serious but not life-threatening'.

In footage posted on Snapchat reportedly showing the suspect being put in the back of a police van, he can be heard shouting 'Allahu Akbar' as he is led away by officers.

Another eyewitness, named only as Rebecca, told Mirror Online: 'I heard the most bloodcurdling scream I've ever heard and turned to see everyone running towards me.

'Some guy told me to run. 'Keep running' was all he kept saying - 'just keep running'. I jumped off the tram track and started to run down the tram lines and hid behind some concrete slabs under one of the arches.

The Metrolink has been cordoned off and the station is currently shut down while police investigate the scene.

The attack took place just a few hundred meters away from the Manchester Arena, scene of the deadly bombing in May 2017 which killed 23 revellers at an Ariana Grande concert.

British Transport Police said in a statement: 'Officers are attending Manchester Victoria station following reports of a man wielding a knife. We received the call at 8.52pm on Monday, 31 December.

'A man has been detained and two members of the public, a man and a woman have been taken to hospital with knife injuries.

'A BTP officer is also receiving treatment for a stab wound to the shoulder. British Transport Police remain at the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service.'

Greater Manchester Police tweeted: 'We are currently managing an incident at Victoria train station in Manchester. The Metrolink through the station is suspended. More updates will follow.'

London violence: Two dead and
four hurt in knife and gun attacks

Two people have been stabbed to death and four others hurt in separate attacks in the early hours of the morning in London.

A man died after being stabbed outside a private party in Park Lane, in the West End, at about 05:30 GMT.

Two men, aged 37 and 29, and a woman, aged 29, were also stabbed.

About an hour earlier, a woman was fatally stabbed in Southwark and at around the same time a woman was shot at a nightclub in Hackney.

'Security staff'

Police said the man who died at the Park Lane party appeared to be a member of security staff, as were the other two men who were hurt.

The men and the woman were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. They are not thought to have life-threatening injuries.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation and are in the process of informing the man's next-of-kin. A post-mortem examination is due to be held later.

Det Ch Insp Andy Partridge said: "The incident took place outside a venue that was hosting a private party.

"It appears the deceased and the two injured males were working as security staff for the party, they were attacked by a group of males who were outside trying to enter the venue.

"The female was also attacked as she assisted the security staff in closing the front door of the premises."

In the Southwark attack, police were called by paramedics to an address in John Ruskin Street, Camberwell, at 04:20.

A woman, aged in her early 30s, was found with stab wounds and, despite the efforts of paramedics to save her, she was pronounced dead at 04:50.

She has not been formally identified and her next-of-kin have not yet been informed.

A man, 34, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

Camberwell 'murder': Woman stabbed
to death in home on New Year's Day

A man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing, which happened at 4.20am

A woman has died after being stabbed at a South London home in the early hours of the morning.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the killing in Camberwell.

Officers were called by the London Ambulance Service to a property on John Ruskin Street in Camberwell at 4.20am.

A woman, in her early 30s, was found with stab injuries.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, she was pronounced dead at 4.50am.

Her next of kin have not been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

A man, aged 34, was initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains custody.

Surrey train stabbing victim killed in front of son

A man who was stabbed to death on a train in Surrey was with his 14-year-old son at the time, police have said

A manhunt is under way for the 51-year-old victim's killer, who fled from the train after the stabbing during a "vicious fight" on board the London-bound service.

The victim and the attacker had both boarded the train at the same station.

British Transport Police say they do not believe the pair were known to each other.

Supt Paul Langley said the teenager would have seen the killing.

"This would have been an horrific and hugely traumatic event to have witnessed and we are providing him with as much support as possible," he said.

Early indications suggested the boy's father received multiple stab wounds in the attack.

The offender is described as black, in his 20s or 30s, with a slim build and a beard, dressed all in black with white trainers

People have been urged not to approach him but to call 999.

Police have said the suspect and victim had got on the train at London Road (Guildford) at 13:01 GMT and the offender left the service at Clandon, five minutes later. Officers boarded the train at the next stop, Horsley.

Describing the attack as "violent and deadly", Supt Langley said there had been a number of sightings of the suspect, who fled towards Dedswell Drive.

He said officers were in the area looking for the killer and BTP was working closely with Surrey Police and the National Police Air Service.

An eyewitness to the killing told the BBC there had been a "vicious fight" on the train.

One social media user who said she had been on the train praised the "incredible" response of the guards and driver in a tweet to South Western Railway.

She wrote: "I was on this train, how those guards and especially that train driver went into action was nothing short of incredible."

Oliver Thompson, a 16-year-old student living in Clandon, said he was stopped by police in the area at roughly 14:30 and asked if he had seen a "man running from the station".

A little later he saw police helicopters circling the area before being joined by "a police van with high-powered lights" as night fell.

"It is definitely unnerving to think there is a murderer maybe somewhere in the village."

Matt Phelps, 35, who works at a business on Epsom Road in West Clandon, said there were three helicopters circling overhead when they locked up and went home.

"To think there was someone like that potentially hiding around the corner somewhere certainly made us want to pack up and go home quicker than usual," he said.

After the attacker left the train at Clandon, emergency services were called to help the injured man when the train reached Horsley.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling described the stabbing as "tragic" and said: "Our deepest sympathies are with the victim and their family."

The train remained at Horsley station for several hours, blocking the line into London Waterloo.

Rail services were suspended between Guildford and Effingham Junction while police carried out investigations, but South Western Railway has said trains are now calling at Clandon and Horsley again.

Surrey train stabbing:
Suspect arrested along with a woman

The suspect being sought for the stabbing of a man on a train in Surrey has been arrested, British Transport Police say.

A 51-year-old man died after suffering multiple knife wounds during a "vicious fight" on board a Guildford to London train on Friday afternoon.

He was killed in front of his 14-year-old son.

The victim and the attacker both got on the train at London Road station in Guildford at about 13:00 GMT.

Police believe the pair were not known to each other.

The suspect was detained at an address in the Farnham area at around 06:00 GMT on suspicion of murder.

A 27-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

More than 40 officers from British Transport Police are working alongside Surrey Police and on Saturday morning the forces were still searching for the murder weapon between Horsley and Farnham.

Assistant Chief Constable Sean O'Callaghan told BBC Breakfast: "I can confirm this morning that we have arrested who we believe to be the suspect in relation to this violent offence and also another person involved as well.

"Those arrests have taken place in an address in the Surrey area this morning."

Mr O'Callaghan described the sequence of events detectives know to have taken place on the train.

'Unprovoked violent attack'

He said: "We now know from enquiries we've been doing overnight and from witnesses that the two men were involved in a verbal discussion, that discussion lasted three to four minutes.

"It moved through one carriage from where they first boarded into another carriage, and that argument escalated to the unprovoked violent attack that sadly resulted in the death."

Mr O'Callaghan also said detectives are confident with the arrests they have made and no-one else was being sought in connection with the killing at this time.

He said: "This is, as far as we can see at this moment in time, an incident that has occurred when two men have been talking to one another, opposed to a random attack on a train.

"Travelling on the train is still an extremely safe thing to do. Very few crimes actually occur on the train itself.

"In terms of violent offences, it's one violent offence for approximately one million passenger journeys, so the chances of being a victim of violence on a train in England, Scotland and Wales is still extremely low."
