We Brits are cowards, we would not dare to take any real action against the government

Did the army actually seriously injure anyone in the protests there?

Not yet they said tomorrow. But now they seem to renounce. Perhaps they fear that our soldiers might refuse to obey.

Soldiers to 'OPEN FIRE' if lives
are threatened at Yellow Vest protest

French soldiers will be allowed to 'OPEN FIRE' if lives are threatened by Yellow Vest rioters this weekend as the military is drafted in to help 5,000 police on the streets of Paris

General Bruno Leray confirmed French Army will support 5,000 police Saturday
This weekend will be the 19th Yellow Vest demonstration in the capital in a row

French soldiers will be permitted to 'open fire' if lives are threatened by Yellow Vest rioters this weekend, the military governor of Paris said today.

General Bruno Leray's ominous words highlight the growing law and order crisis faced by President Emmanuel Macron as he faces up to the increasingly violent social movement.

It has now been confirmed that the French Army will support some 5,000 police trying to keep order during the 19th Yellow Vest Saturday demonstration in a row in Paris at the weekend.

General Leray told Franceinfo Radio on Friday: 'If their life or that of the people they defend is threatened, they can go up to opening fire.'

There was widespread rioting across the French capital last Saturday, with banks, high-end shops, and restaurants looted and burnt out.

Yellow Vest CHAOS: Desperate Emmanuel
Macron deploys army tanks in terrifying scenes

Yellow Vest protesters are facing a terrifying military crackdown after Emmanuel Macron deployed huge black tanks to the streets of Toulouse

Frightening images saw the army and riot police surround the giant tanks released by Mr Macron in an attempt to rid French cities of violent protests against his government. A French journalist tweeted a picture of the tanks with the caption: “Protesters are pushed back to the Canal du Midi.”

Mr Macron, 41, announced days ago he would use his army to battle the protesters, who have been setting France on fire and vandalising quaint restaurants and cafes and even stealing guns from police since the end of November last year. General Bruno Le Ray, who oversees the counter-terror “Sentinelle” operation in the Paris region, told France Info radio on Friday.

Brexit is a 'political lesson to us all' says Emmanuel Macron

He said: “The soldiers have different courses of action to tackle a range of threats, which include opening fire… But they are perfectly capable of appreciating the nature of the threat and of responding in a proportionate manner.”

Today is the 19th consecutive weekend of protests by those in Yellow Vests.

Despite attempts by the movement themselves to end the violence after nine people were killed in the early stages of the chaos last year, they continue to clash with riot police who have used tear gas and tasers in many cases before arresting some demonstrators.

Mr Macron, the target for protesters, hit back and banned marches and demonstrations along the Champs-Élysées avenue, where his government office is.

This was after he attempted to calm their anger by offering them sweeteners of benefits and higher wages, which only backfired by costing the french economy millions of euros.

It also landed him in hot water with the EU after impacting his fiscal budget.

Initially, protests began due to outrage over Mr Macron’s 23 percent fuel hike.

Demonstrations, which saw famous French landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Arc De Triomphe vandalised, then spilled into other EU nations such as Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The movement has even been seen in Britain, with Leave supporters taking to the streets in outrage over Brexit and Prime Minister Theresa May’s controversial deal.

My novel is not yet published for I am already invited, every month, to a festival : the topic of Eastern Middle Age, Crusades, Sufism and Kurds seems an attractive cocktail for literature amateurs.

France's yellow vest protesters
march despite bans, injuries

Yellow vest activists protested across France on Saturday, to support an activist injured last week in a confrontation with police and to show that they remain mobilized against the government's economic policies

The demonstrators were undeterred by police protest bans or repeated injuries in 20 weeks of demonstrations. So they were out marching again Saturday in Paris, Bordeaux and other cities to keep pressing President Emmanuel Macron to do more to help France's struggling working classes — or step down altogether.

They're also showing solidarity with Genevieve Legay, a 73-year-old anti-globalization activist who suffered a head injury in the southern city of Nice last weekend. The Nice prosecutor said a police officer pushed her down.

"We are all Genevieve!" read an online appeal for Saturday's protests.

Thousands of yellow vests marched peacefully in the streets of Paris, from north of the city center through the Left Bank to the Trocadero plaza near the Eiffel Tower. Some waved a rainbow flag that read "Peace," same as the one that Legay was carrying in last week's protest.

The French capital was placed under high security and protests were banned around the grand Champs-Elysees avenue, the scene of past yellow vest riots. Paris police said 25 people were detained and 20 fined for taking part in an unauthorized protest.

In the southern French town of Avignon, brief scuffles broke out as police forced protesters out of the narrow streets of the medieval city center.

In Bordeaux, in the southwest, French police used tear gas after some protesters set fire to debris from a construction site and tried to force their way past security barriers. Protests were banned from the city center, where violence has often erupted in previous weeks.

Audrey Bayart, who came from northern France for the Paris protest, said Legay's case shows the government's contempt toward protesters, especially after Macron told a newspaper that the elderly woman should have had the "wisdom" not to join the Nice protest.

"After a while, you have to respect people and not tell them 'You are fragile and you stay at home,'" she said. "Everybody has things to say, why are we trying to shut them up? That is not democracy."

The yellow vest movement for economic justice has appeared to lose support in recent weeks, drawing significantly smaller crowds than at its beginning in November, when hundreds of thousands of people mobilized across France, initially to oppose fuel tax hikes, before expanding into a broader rejection of Macron's economic policies.

The French government is expected to announce next month a new batch of measures as a result of a "great debate" launched by Macron so ordinary French people could express their views on key issues.

Yes, this publisher was the one who introduced Terry Pratchett in France, when he was unknown there.

But I have to confess I never read him.

As Terry Terry Pratchett invented an entire world you need a to start with the Discworld Atlas

The Colour of Magic is the first book then you have to read them in order

You will love Rincewind :))

Rincewind is a failed student at the Unseen University for wizards in Ankh-Morpork, and is often described by scholars as "the magical equivalent to the number zero"
