Calls for Mass Demonstrations in Europe

The Kurdish Diaspora Confederation, along with the Kurdish Migrant Federation and various Kurdish diaspora communities and NGOs, is urging Kurds in Europe to participate in mass protests across European countries this Saturday

The announcement states, "On Saturday, 20/1/2024, at 12:00 pm, we, as the Kurdish diaspora, will take part in widespread demonstrations across Europe in front of Iranian embassies. This is in solidarity against the recent atrocities carried out by the Islamic regime of Iran, launching several ballistic missiles and drones at Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, resulting in the death and injury of dozens of civilians."

The Confederation has instructed all its centers, Kurdish diaspora communities, and NGOs to join in as part of their patriotic duties at the following addresses across Europe, showing solidarity and hoisting the Kurdistan flag:

    - Podbielskiallee 67, 14195 Berlin

    - Willi-Becker-Allee 10, 40227 Düsseldorf

    - Hannover Ernst August Platz

    - Bebelalle 18, Hamburg 22299

    - Rathus Vorplaz, Wolfsburg

    - 16 Princes Gate, London SW7 1PT

    - 1012 NP Amsterdam

    - 4 avenue d’Iéna 75116 Paris

    - 160 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC, White House

    - Stratigou Kallari 16 Psichiko

    - Places des Nations, Geneve
On Monday night, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched multiple missile and drone attacks against Erbil, resulting in the tragic deaths of a prominent businessman, his 11-month-old daughter, and two other civilians.

According to Iranian officials, the IRGC targeted a Mossad base in Erbil despite lacking sufficient evidence for such allegations, causing civilian casualties and material damages.

The atrocity has triggered collective outrage domestically and internationally, condemning Iran's reckless attacks on civilians. Following the assault, foreign countries condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with Kurdistan.

Domestically, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani canceled a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Iraq.

Kurds within Kurdistan and in the diaspora are participating in mass demonstrations against these brutal crimes, which targeted the economic powerhouse of the capital and resulted in civilian casualties under false justifications.

The Kurdish Diaspora Confederation attempts to launch more organized protests across European cities, aiming to draw more international attention to the actions of the Iranian regime.

Protests held by Kurdish diaspora

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish diaspora across several Western countries on Saturday held protests against the Jan. 15 missile attack on Erbil

Ahmad Banavi, the head of the Kurdistan Diaspora Center in Canada, told Kurdistan24 that the Kurdistan Diaspora Center “strongly condemns Iran's missile attack” on Erbil.

The Kurdish diaspora staged demonstrations in Washington DC, Canada, the UK, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Hamburg, Wolfsburg, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Oslo, Helsinki, Brussels, Vienna, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Athens and Geneva, according to the latest information provided to Kurdistan24
Earlier, Kurdistan24's reporter in Brussels, Barzan Hassan, said that the diaspora would hold more demonstrations against the attacks in other European countries and the United States.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Jan. 15 night targeted the private residence of renowned Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee during a family gathering in Erbil, where he was killed along with his daughter and two other guests. Six others were wounded in the attack.

The US, UK, and United Nations strongly condemned the attacks, which were the second of their kind by the IRGC on private residences in Erbil, with the last such instance occurring at the site of a prominent Kurdish oil tycoon in 2021.

The deadly attacks have taken center stage in the discussions between Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and leaders of various countries on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland’s Davos.

Zakho biggest mass protest

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Zakho Independent Administration is set to witness the “biggest mass protest” against Iranian attacks on Erbil last week, a top official told Kurdistan24

The protests will be held in the city center of Zakho, where a significant turnout is expected, Guhdar Sheikho, the head of the Administration, told Kurdistan24 on Saturday.

“All the preparations for the demonstrations are complete,” he added.

The local official described the attacks as “terrorist and unjustifiable.”

Following Erbil, the Zakho Chamber of Commerce has similarly urged its residents to refrain from purchasing Iranian products in protest of the attacks
Several mass protests have taken place across the Kurdistan Region since last week to condemn the attacks that had killed a renowned Kurdish businessman and his little daughter along with two others. Six other people were wounded.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) last week targeted the private residence of a renowned Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee during a family gathering in Erbil, where he was killed along with his daughter and two other guests. Six others were wounded in the attacks.

Thousands in Zakho Protest

Thousands of residents on Sunday gathered in the Zakho Independent Administration to demonstrate and condemn Monday’s deadly attack on Erbil by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)

Many Kurds across Europe also joined widespread protests on Saturday, expressing their condemnation of the Iran's attack on civilians.

These demonstrations follow the devastating assault on Monday by the IRGC which executed multiple missile and drone attacks on Erbil. This tragic event resulted in the loss of a prominent businessman, Peshraw Dizayee, his 11-month-old daughter, and two other civilians.

Similar demonstrations have taken place across the Kurdistan Region. Protesters gathered in front of the United Nations headquarters in Erbil last Tuesday to condemn the Iranian missile attack. Likewise, in Erbil's Soran city, citizens took to the streets to denounce Iran's heinous assault on Erbil.

Iran’s atrocious act on Erbil has sparked widespread condemnation, triggering outrage on a global scale for Iran's reckless attacks on civilians. Following the assault, nations from around the world have come together to condemn the incident and show unwavering support for the Kurdistan Region.

Boycott of Iranian Goods

The Tehran Chamber of Commerce has expressed its hope for a swift resolution to the ongoing boycott of Iranian goods imposed by Erbil, a move which was made in response to the recent Iranian attack on the capital city

Last week, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a missile strike on a civilian target in Erbil, prompting Kurdistan to initiate the boycott on January 19.

The IRGC's strike, which occurred on the night of January 15, targeted the private residence of prominent Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee during a family gathering. Dizayee, his 11-month-old daughter, and two other guests lost their lives, while six others were injured in the attack.

In response to the boycott, the Erbil Chamber of Commerce issued a statement on January 19, encouraging Kurdish traders to explore alternative import sources from Turkey and Gulf markets.

The trade volume between Iran and the Kurdistan Region had surpassed $1 billion in 2022 through the Haji Omaran border crossing, the sole official land-based point of entry between Erbil and Iran.

Protests Continues Against Iran's Attack

Thousands of civilians on Tuesday gathered in Halabja and Sulaymaniyah and Raparin areas to condemn the deadly attack on Erbil by Iran

Nationwide protests have taken place throughout the Kurdistan Region to condemn the brutal missile strike on Erbil by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which killed at least four civilians and led to one individual still unaccounted for.

Protests echoing anger and condemnation against Iran's deadly attack were also observed this week in Duhok and Erbil province.

Many of the Kurdish diaspora in Norway, Denmark, Germany and Finland and Norway stood with their nation by arranging extensive protests on Saturday, voicing their strong condemnation of Iran's assault on civilians in Erbil.

These demonstrations follow the devastating attack last Monday by the IRGC after it launched multiple missiles on Erbil, resulting in the loss of a prominent businessman, Peshraw Dizayee, his 11-month-old daughter, and two other civilians.

Michelle Mandoz, the Filipino housekeeper who worked at Peshraw Dizayee's residence, remains missing despite a week-long search conducted by the Erbil Civil Defense in the debris.

Traders Avoid Iranian Goods

In response to Iran's recent ballistic missile attack on Erbil, which claimed the life of a Kurdish businessman, around 100 traders in the Kurdistan Region have boycotted Iranian products within two weeks of the incident

Gaylan Haji Said, the president of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce, confirmed on Friday that approximately 100 businessmen in the Region have opted to abstain from dealing with Iranian goods. While the current impact on trade volume is minimal, Said anticipates a more pronounced effect in the coming weeks and months.

The attack, carried out on January 15 by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), targeted different residential areas in Erbil, resulting in the death of prominent Kurdish businessman Peshraw Dizayee, his 11-month-old daughter, and two others.

Erbil Chamber of Commerce initiated the call for a boycott last week as a protest against Tehran's missile strikes on the Kurdish capital.

Iranian currency depreciating

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iranian currency, known as the rial, has been steadily declining since the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a ballistic missile attack on Erbil earlier in January

In the last 10 days, the rial has depreciated by 10 percent, causing panic in the country’s markets.

The currency is frequently referred to by its superunit term, the toman, with 1 toman equalling 10 rials.

The value of the US dollar, which was 50,000 Iranian tomans on the day of the attack, has now risen to over 55,000 tomans.

The chambers of commerce in Erbil, Duhok, Zakho, and Soran have called on Kurdish businessmen and the public to boycott Iranian goods in response to the Iranian attacks. This demand has also raised concerns within the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, which has pleaded with its Erbil counterpart to end the boycott.

Iran has relied heavily on its Kurdistan Region neighbor to maintain its economy, with trade volume exceeding $1 billion in 2022 through the Haji Omaran border crossing, the only official land-based point of entry between Erbil and Iran
The IRGC claimed responsibility for the Jan. 15 missile strike on the home of Kurdish real-estate mogul Peshraw Dizayee, killing him and a business partner of Assyrian background.

Dizayee headed the Falcon Group and its Empire brand, a company with a valuation estimated to be $2.5 billion.

In addition to violent escalation with its Kurdish neighbor, Iran has also targeted Balochi militias on its southern Pakistan border, much to the ire of the latter.

Since the Gaza conflict began last October, Iran-backed proxy militias scattered across the region have launched ongoing drone and rocket attacks on US and Coalition installations.

These recent border incursions into the Kurdistan Region and Pakistan are the first such instances where the IRGC has launched direct attacks in its own capacity since last October.

Art Exhibition Condemns Iran Attack

A group of calligraphers and artists from the Kurdistan Region on Monday unveiled an art and calligraphy exhibition at Erbil Castle in response to the recent missile attack on the capital city

The exhibition, inaugurated by Erbil's governor Omid Khoshnaw showcased various paintings carrying slogans denouncing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’s missile attacks on the city.

Among the slogans displayed were powerful messages such as "Erbil is the pride of all Kurdistan" and "Erbil, you are the light of Peshmerga land and struggle." The exhibition aims to provide citizens, tourists, and visitors with a platform to express solidarity and support for Erbil in the aftermath of the missile attacks.

Speaking to BasNews, Sabir Mohammed Sabir, one of the participating calligraphers, emphasized the condemnation and expression of feelings through the exhibition.

He stated, "Although our work was done quickly, we managed to convey our sentiments in writing according to our abilities. Everyone expresses their opinions differently, and the important thing is that all Kurds sympathize with this heartbreaking incident and stand against the ugly act that was perpetrated against Erbil."

Earlier this month, the IRGC fired several missiles at Erbil, leading to the tragic deaths of a notable entrepreneur, Peshraw Dizayee, along with his 11-month-old daughter and two additional civilians.
