Is it just me or is there a dance called bablekan?

I'm in the process of learning these dances but as they get more complicated it's really hard as a foreigner. Insallah I will learn it properly. Love dancing and dressing up in kurdish clothes by the way :D

The first song is "Canê Canê Canê" - Şivan Perwer's song...

The second song is "Gêrîla Roj Baş" - Beser Şahîn's song... :)

Nice dance... :)

But I wish they had worn Kurdish clothes...

I disagree...

Clothes are part of your culture... If you don't wear your clothes - and if you aren't proud of your heritage - then you are not proud of your culture...

So many Kurds are trying to be "European"... That is so tragic... :(

I do I do not think that you wear a şalwar if you go to a marriage or to a festival

it is normal that they do not wear such clothes

and something else: i can not be proud of something which god gave me, I am only proud of something I do, without any help! But this do not mean that I hate my culture and my nationality, I always thank god for being a kurd, for being a moslem, for having a culture like this..., but i can not be proud

and yes you are right many kurds are trying to be "European", but I am not one of them!

sorry...

Xûşka min - bibore... I didn't mean to be harsh...

But I am very strong headed about this - Kurds must wear their national clothes... If they don't, then they are not owning up to their culture - and if they don't own up to their culture, then others will steal it and say it's theirs...

So I want every Kurd to wear Kurdish clothes at parties and weddings and celebrations...

Our clothes are VERY decent and VERY beautiful! :)

if we are found over our Kurdish roots, we must love our culture too, no matter what.

yes they are very beautiful, but what can i say, nobody want to wear them..

and our culture has already been stolen, we can not do anything

i am living in germany and here in the place i live there are so many turks, alleging that gowend is their dance, and you can not demonstrate them that it is your one.

they do not call you a kurd, for them you are a -we call it "BERGTÜRKE" in germany- turks who are living i the mountains, and you can not do st. , i only can say them that i am a kurd

sorry for my reaction, i know that you did not mean it bad.

and another sorry for my english :?

Du spreche gut englisch - meine deutsch ist wurst... :P

BUT the point is: you are wrong... Please don't say things like "nobody wears them" - because that is not true... [-(

MOSTLY it's only a problem in Bakûr - but only in the western areas - like Dîlok, Riha, Amed, Mereş, Dersîm, Çewlik etc...

In Rojhelat, Başûr and Rojava - we PROUDLY wear our national clothes... It disappoints me to hear that you or other Kurds don't wear Kurdish clothes... It sadnes me - because if YOU and I don't wear them, WHO WILL??? :(

But I wear Kurdish clothes... And they are one of the most beautiful possessions I have...

Here is me in Kurdish clothes:

What a cool thread! Diri, I very much enjoyed reading the explanations and looking at the pictures.

In my home village we organized a Kurdish dance night for the holiday of Purim, about a month and a half ago. Since 99% of the population in the village is Kurdish Jewish, the evening was a great success, of course. Too bad I can't upload the DVD file here!

It's really interesting, though, I've never heard of Chepi, only Chopi -- even though Kurdish Jews come from all kinds of areas in Kurdistan, and there is variation in language (some speak Sorani, some Kurmanci, etc.)
