Yes, you mean the "Untouchables"?

Do you watch Indian movies, Sicpit?

Either way - check out "Once upon a time in India" - where you'll find an example of this out-cast mentality... And the movie itself is very well directed... :)

You're very right about uprooting outdated traditions/aspects of religion/lifestyle...

No I can't say I have, although maybe I will start. I am finding a spiritual way with hinduism. Perhaps it is Melek Taus will for me to be Hindu.

Hi Zia, it's been a while since I last posted here but your thread has tempted me back!

I've been contemplating living and working in Kurdistan for some time now, so it's real interesting to hear your take on things (as a non-Kurd) and I'm so happy you're enjoying your experience.

I'll be there myself in a couple of weeks too, so if you find yourself that 'ladies' cafe, give me a shout and I'll join you for a Kurdish tea... or even better, you can come visit me and mine, you'd be most welcome.

A big Hi to everyone else here too, some of you I know (hello there Dîrî - how's it going!), some of you I'd never had the pleasure, looking forward to catching up with you all and hearing more about your life in Kurdistan Zia.

Take Care.

Hi Dîrî,

Thanks for your PM, I'm having problems replying to you, so thought I'd do it here!

All's good here, as I mentioned in my earlier post, we're hoping to be in Hewler in the next couple of weeks, although we're considering putting our trip off until the Spring then we can be there for Newroz, I'll let you know!

Apologies for not being around much, I've had a hectic year but there's light at the end of the tunnel and I will make an effort to increase on my 1 post, shouldn't be too hard, lol! I've missed keeping up with what's going on with you guys... and there's loads of new faces here I don't recognise!

To everyone else I've not had the pleasure of 'meeting', I look forward to getting to know you all. Like most of you here I'm not a Kurd (we've taken over the site, lol!), I'm British but very much a Kurd at heart. My better half is from Hewler and I've been involved with Kurdish issues for more years than I care to remember.

Take Care x

No sweat xûşka hêja :)

It's alright... I just hope you don't flood yourself with work and chores... :) Remember to go up for air every once in a while at least!

Good to hear from you... Good idea about going to Kurdistan for Newroz - the best time of year in Kurdistan: spring... Definetly!

I know, I'm just not very good at this coming up for air lark, but all work and no play isn't a life is it. Work to live, not live to work right, so I intend to make amends and make more time for fun stuff, starting right now :D

I think you're right, it would be lovely to be in Kurdistan for Spring and with the recent developments, it might not be the best idea to go for a visit just now :(

Have you made any plans to visit - are you still in Norway?

Hi Evin, MaryJane, Diri, Sicpit and all... (and thanks for the birthday wishes).
Sorry for the silence this last little while - due to the normal things that delay life here... the Internet wasn't working, my "better half" (ha ha, I don't think even he'd believe I would call him that that) is having problems over work done that hasn't been paid... and Eid...

Anyway, exciting news for Sicpit. I will have some photos (albeit amateurish and not particularily wonderful) to post of Lalish as soon as I can figure out how to do that here. I and some friends went on Thursday and had a fabulous time. I didn't meet the Mir, but it was still rather overwhelming and a great experience. I also have some photos of Akre, both from this time and picnics just after Nawruz.

Anyway Evin, I will try to PM you my email address later this week (if I can get that to work. I PMed both Diri and Sicpit before, but don't know if they both received the messages. I am using a MAc computer, not all web tools work as they are supposed to on my platform ) so I can answer any questions you may have about Hawler. I can tell you that things are changing. I find the atmosphere to be a little better for me as a woman this year than last.
Well, "shor bash" all,
Zia

@Evîn

Haha :D I know what you mean... Just keep repeating those words "work to live, not live to work" Hahaha

I haven't had the chance to go I'm afraid - it's been sooooo distant in both mind and place... I'm still around in Norway, yes... And I don't think you should be going either - with the recent events... But maybe things will settle till spring? Nothing's ever safe, realy... Even ones own home can be an accident waiting to happen... Right...?

God forbid, of course... [-o< [-o< [-o<

@Zia - I did get your PM sweety :) I've just not been around much myself either - because of tests and exams :)

That'd be great Zia, look forward to hearing from you!

I'm happy to hear things are improving for the better, I was actually there last year but due to the number of relatives I had to visit, I didn't make it out of Hewler, I was hoping to do some travelling this year and go a little further afield, lol!

As I mentioned earlier, my husband is a little concerned with the recent developments and we're thinking about putting off our visit until the Spring, talk of picnics and Newroz parties are helping to soften the blow!

I'd love to hear more about your life and work there, I don't intend to leave the UK for a while yet (my youngest is still at home and in college), but perhaps in a couple of years when he's off to Uni, I'll make the move.

Take Care.

You know you're right of course Dîrî but even in a democratic country like England, it's harder for women to get on in business, it seems we have to work twice as hard as the guys to achieve recognition, not to mention bringing up a family too!

Things are getting easier though now, my kids are growing up sooooo very fast and are both very independent these days, so I've much more free time than I used to have, weyhey!

The more 'S' talks about Kurdistan in Spring, the more I think that'd be the best decision, Newroz parties and picnics sound great and hopefully things will have settled down again by then.

Keep having fun and love to 'Z' x

Hey zia , you said they are no tomatoes in kurdistan , just use yogurt , thats how dals were made traditionally, and for that slightly sour taste use dry mango powder or sumac powder (dry mango is tastier ) . You can also use yogurt to make Pulao or polo (if your persian) .
