.:HELLO EVERYONE:.

PostAuthor: MaryJane » Fri Sep 21, 2007 3:17 pm

I'm new to this forum so first of all, I'd like to say HI to all of you :D
I'm 23-year-old student from Poland. I came across this forum while looking for some information about Kurdistan (my boyfriend is Kurdish so I wanted to know more about the culture and religion of his country). I'm glad I've found you guys and hope to have a good time here :)

Hi Barış,

Thanks for your reply :)

I live about 90 kilometers from our capital city (Warsaw) towards North. My boyfriend lives now in Switzerland and I'm afraid he can't join the forum at the moment but I will certainly let him know  :D

Hey, what do you think about Polish people going to Europe? Are they good people? Because some Dutch people in my country really don't like them coming to Holland.
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

Hi Vladimir,

We don't have to go to Europe because we already live in Europe :P Ok, ok...I know what you mean

Whether people come from Poland or any other country, doesn't mean they are all good or all bad. I'm aware of the fact that some Polish people give bad impression of our nation (I think that applies to any country) when they are abroad, but everybody is different and we shouldn't generalize. I can't say anything about Polish people who are already in Holland because I simply don't know them.

Well, the Carpathians are in the southern part of Poland while I live more in the Centre. I've been there though and I strongly recommend going there because many places are really beautiful and in some way magic... :D I haven't been to Swiss Alps yet (for now just the pictures must do :? )but I think it's a must for mountain lovers :D

PS. Hmm...new avatar...

Hey Maryjane,
If I were you, I wouldn't ask your boyfriend to join for the same reason I won't ask mine to join... You wouldn't be able to ask relationship advice here... (OK, just joking).

Although not British, I was in London for a bit where I was very active in the salsa scene. I met many Polish friends on the dance floor and they were brilliant dancers. YOu must have some very good dance clubs in your major city centers!

Anyway, it must be very difficult living so far from your boyfriend. How do you make it work?

Hi Zia :) .

Sorry for such a late reply but I haven't been here for a long while...

When it comes to dancing, I must admit that in general, Polish people (but not all of us, of course) are good at that, and I'm not saying this because I'm Polish myself  There are dance clubs in every bigger city in Poland so we have many places to practice it :) Although I like to dance, I'm not a club-person.

Yes, it is indeed... It's hard not to have someone I love with me here but even though our bodies are so far away from each other, our hearts and minds are very close and that's what is important. We talk on the phone every day and send each other messages. We trust each other and that's crucial. I'm trying to make some plans to go and visit my boyfriend at least for several days when I have some time off at my uni.

Hi MaryJane,

MaryJane wrote:Although I like to dance, I'm not a club-person.

I love to dance, but didn't go to clubs regularly... and as you might imagine, I don't go at all here.
Someone said I should start a salsa club, but I don't really think that would go over well... although I heard that in Turkey the first dance classes started with men learning with men, women with women... then after getting married, couples could dance together. Now, however, there are plenty of dance schools off of Istiklal Caddesi.

I agree that trust is crucial - even when you live in the same city. I have plenty of friends here whose boyfriends won't let them go out in the evening if they are not together. My partner and I don't seem to have any issues with trust, but somehow even though he is Kurdish, he also finds life in Hawler hard at times. So we are both more comfortable when we are both here. And when we met up in Istanbul, that was great... we could actually hold hands (gasp!) in public. When will you go next? And when are you planning to visit South Kurdistan?

Hi MaryJane and welcome to RBK!

I know what you're going through and don't worry, things will get better! I spent a lot time apart from my husband before we got married, but you know what, it will make you and your relationship stronger in the long run!

Good luck (and good luck with your studies), I hope it all works out for you!
