Cum Laude, dirty? Lol that is latin= with praise. it is when you graduate with honors. SO anytime you graduate from a University with 3.6 or above you graduate with "cum Laude", above that it is Magna Cum Laude, and finally the third honor is Summa Cum Laude.

Lol wrong side of the world? nah. its ok.
hehehe graduate school ?? High School? lol. Then I am really on the wrong side of the world. graduate school is actually any point beyond your bachelor's degree( 4 year degree). So I did my BS ..Bachelors of Science in politics and diplomacy and now I am doing my Masters' program in accounting and finance. I hope it is a "walk in the park".

Wow... This just goes to prove that the systems in America and Europe/Scandinavia are completely different...

I knew they were slightly different - but not this much... Surprising... We don't have the Cum laude in Scandinavia - they do have it in Britain, which is probably what the American system bases itself on...

Thanks for the clearification! :)

Not "wrong side of the world", xûşka min... I said "wrong side of the Atlantic"... Which is a very different thing - as it was a reference to the trans-atlantic relationship between Americans and Europeans... Which was the basis for NATO...

I see - so you've completed your Bachlor... :) May I ask what your thesis was?

Yeah - good luck - fingers crossed!

I agree with you than we should all be thankful for the opportunity we have been given to pursue our education abroad. I am sure you are a 4.0 GPA, you seem very analytical and detail oriented, which exactly what your area of studies requires.

@ proudkurd, I am in USA. :) thank you for the greeting.

@ laszlo... thank you and welcome to the conversation. :)

@ Nuray... that is wonderful. Teach me some basics in Zazaki (?) please. I would love to learn. If you do not mind me asking...What do you do? student, research? work ? or all of the above? I like your nickname, what does it mean?

@ Diri...
Indeed there are many differences. I did not have to do a thesis, in USA we do not have to do a thesis for undergraduate school, and in some cases even for a Master's program. Instead we take a lot of courses in the concentrated area of study and take qualifying exams. I am not sure if I am going to do a thesis or not at this point, but if I were to do so, it would have to be on the Chinese Finance Market.

Thanks for the clarification in reference to the trans-Atlantic issue... ahem.... I do not pay attention to what is being said a lot of times, and therefore misunderstand.

Please do keep your fingers crossed, so far I have a 4.0 GPA in grad school, that is not to say I am smart, but I did so terrible in undergrad that I am trying to impress my advisors into letting me teach some classes next year. I am only two semesters into the program, but so far so good. Insha Allah you will be doing so as well. I take it you want to be a researcher?
Also, do you have to write a thesis for undergrad in Norway? If so, what is the length of it? And, how concentrated does it have to be? :?

@ Proudkurd, Texas, ay? wow, nice to see a Texan here. What is the weather like in Texas these days? Are you in Dallas? I heard that most of the Kurdish population in Texas is based out of Dallas.
What is Houston like, by the way? 8-[

4.0 GPA, you genious! Haha, that is really good. Good luck
Yes, I'm in Dallas. The weather is beyond crazy. One day it's 70 degrees (fahrenheit) and then the next day it's freezing. Earlier this month, it even reached more than 80 degrees. Isn't that crazy--80+ degrees in Decemeber. Haha, but at the moment, it's in the 50s.
What do you mean by what is Houston like?

Wow your name is beautiful Xwishka berez. I would like to say "hi"and "how are you?" in your mother language. Mash allah ,may your career develop into a fascinating way of life for you. I love music. I am sure you have a lot of fun at work.
So you changed your avatar too, ha? hahaha I love wolves, that is why my avatar has a wolf on it. I do not have any pets, but if I could choose any pet in the universe...the top two choices would be either a feline ( bigger cat) or a wolf.
:) I look forward to learning many things from you Nuray. By the way, I believe we say "tava heyve" in Behdini, but I am sure there is a more appropriate word for it.
cheers

You have been more than helpful. Supas for the information. I am from Nashville, actually. ere Kurdistana Bichuka, as Americans love to it call it. I am happy mostly with the cold weather and snow, as we had it back home. I think I cannot survive without mountains either. Texas in general has a flat surface, without mountains. However, it has good schools...i.e. Baylor University.

Oh wow... You're free to not do a thesis/project/term-paper? And not in Master's sometimes?

Well, yes we have to do a "term-paper" or basically a thesis - simply comparing theories from different sources on a specific theme - detailed... And then drawing a conclusion from your balanced observation... The whole point would be to show you've understood the methods and structure of the subject you study. Not as much about the theme you've chosen to debate...

Individualism, being able to see a statement/an event from two or more sides and presenting ones finds in a scientifically pleasing way - is what they're looking for..

Fingers crossed sister... :) Serfiraz û serkeftî bî!

We don't use numbers in Norway - unless you're studying law (for grades)... We use the alphabet - A-B-C-D-E-F... :)

I misunderstood what you meant by AGP initially - and thought you were refering to the avarage grade point graduating from highschool... Which is very important here in Scandinavia... Because none of your other grades count anything before you've graduated from University or College - so you're basically asked to reference your graduation average grade point from highschool (whenever applying for something state or job-related)... So this again shows that the systems are two worlds apart... :o

My average grade point at University level, is B... We don't do numbers, as I said... :)

Yes, Texas has many good schools..
My father & mother lived in Nashville for many, many years--I was even born around there, in Columbia to be exact--and then we moved here to be with more family. But yes, it is called "Little Kurdistan" hahaha. Yeah, Texas is really flat; I would give almost anything to have mountains in my backyard like in Kurdistan..haha

I think there may be a bit of miscommunication happening here, on my part. A thesis (in grad school, and to most Americans) is basically something that you will do deep and in depth research on for the whole of your graduate school experience, it is long, almsot like a text book actually, then turn it in and after all the hassle you have to go in front of the school board for your area of study and defend your research and thesis. For example, if I were to to take the thesis route for my school, I would spend the last year of my school doing nothing but research and writing and give my advisor some 500 pages worth of information of the Chinese Finance Market. Linguistically speaking though, you are correct in what a thesis means, but I think the meaning that we have assigned to the term may be a bit different.
Papers and research on the other hand are common knowledge in any college here. Most of the undergraduate papers are about 50 pages long in length or whatever the Prof. deems necessary for the students to write, sometimes it can be only a few pages long. The reason behind doing these is as you stated, to ensure that we as students understand the material/structure of it and what it represents. I do many of those, in fact in undergrad during mid-term exams and final exams students end up writing one paper for each course that they are taking. I just turned the last of mine in, I spent 3 days without sleep and pretty much without much food...all I did was write..at the end I had nearly 60 pages of nonsense to give to my advisor...not that he read it or anything... I believe that they just look at them and assign grades, but that my own delusional view of professors.
