Well - Hungarians are supposed to be the descendants of Turkic peoples - so Attila being a common name makes sense... No I haven't read that book - but thanks for the tip. I will check it out when I get the chance to...
How close is Magyar to Turkish? I mean the language...
What do you call these things, for example:
Table
Speak
Word
House
Sky
--- I'd like to compare it to Turkish to see the similarities...
Thank you
Yes and Finns, Estonians,Lapps. It funny I dont understand Finnish. I try to read it before and not understand 1 word. We gone through Turkey about 1500 year ago. May be why some words be similar. You know Turks ocupy Hungary for 150 year from lost Mohács battle in 1526. Turks are ocupying your land now. We have some words to from Slavonic language when live back in Carpathian basin for 1100 years. Also from years of Austro-Hungarian empire before have some German but not said much.
Table - Asztal, Tábla
Speak - Beszél
Word - Szót. You mean word as in word? or like promise? Ígéret.
House - Ház
Sky - Égbolt, Ég
Yeah - I know the Laps/Sami people here in Norway... It's ironic that they were oppressed and prosecuted by the Norwegians here in Norway... While the Turks have oppressed and prosecute other peoples...
Thank you for the little history lesson! Very interesting...
Oh - those words are very different from Turkish words:
English - Hungarian - Turkish
Table - Asztal, Tábla - Masa
Speak - Beszél - Konuşmak
Word - Szót - Söz
Promise - Ígéret. Söz
House - Ház - Ev
Sky - Égbolt, Ég - Gökyüzü, Gök
Thank you for translating... Do you know of any words which you DO have in common with other Ural-Altaic languages?
