Visa to Kurdistan

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
i need information if any of you know about the matter - i am ghoing to visit Hewler next march and i will try to fly dorectly from UK to Hewler as i know there is such a possibility. the question is about the visa. i read in internet that i can get free 10 days stamp at the air port (or Ibrahim Khalil border, but i cant go like that, coz if i think turks will put me in prison for kurdish plag that i always have with me) - so for EU citizens - which i am one of - there is such possibility according to internet information. do you know anything about that? coz it would be great if i could fly and get that permission at the airport.

no-one will imprison you for a flag.
i was in hawler start of the year, there are alot of tourists (non-kurdish people).

they simply tell you to go to some office within 10 days where you do the paper work. You can write the name down and go there straight away. Only a few thigns to fill out and Passport photo required and away you go.

thank you kak Akam - in fact i will not be able to stay more than 10 days, coz of my job, so its very good news for me anyway. and if you know - do i need any medical examinations, any documents that tells i visited doctor and i have been checked (for example about HIV), coz i heard there is something like that required, but i think it applies to Iraq not Kurdistan.

my dear Brother - turks will not be happy if they see me with kurdish flag - for sure - maybe not on nthe teritory of bakuri Kurdistan, but if i fly to Istambul or ankara ... i think me and my flag will be behind the bars

No in hawler there was nothing of such required. no medical examinations etc etc.

just to be safe ask at the airport about visa and all.

About the flag i was referring to Hawler. i have no idea about the turkish kurdistan

yes, i know in ewler and all bashur we already have autonomy and freedom and our flag is waving in many places there - which is very good thing.

so one more question - if you dont mind is about money - how kurdish currency is reffering to dollars, what is the rate and is it possible to pay with american dollars?

this might have changed slightly since.
US dollar is used pretty much everywhere specially if you buy expensive things such as gold, electronics and cars etc etc
however if you want to buy food and small things i suggest you change some money.
They might have put a currency changer in the new airport but when i went it was the old airport and didnt have that.
Almost all the shops in the city deal with $$ so you can probably ask them OR if you find your way to the $$ bazar which is a section in the city where there are people sitting on little tables with money on them. They change currency and they are all very reliable and honest.
In hawler you can almost trust everyone for pricing of things.

If you dont mind some more questions. how the situations about the banks looks like there. coz my beloved crazy brothers who work with me told me - Kulka, no banks in Kurdistan, you have to keep all your money in your pocket. but they all the time make fun like that with me, so i never know when they speak seriously. and - if you can calculate - for 10 days of staying i am able to take 800 british punds (i dont know how much it is in dollars, but i think about 1000) - would it be enough? i dont need to live in very expensive way, very little is enough for me - i live like that all my live - i have never been rich, so all i need is cheap things. the biggest expences i think will be hotel - i worry about it a little bit. i dont want the very cheapest one, coz i heard arabs live there.
and next thing is the weather - in march - like 15th - 25th march - how is temperstaure more or less, waht about the rain?

- soon i am going to buy a ticket - so i will be sure i am going there and its no longer a dream, but plan. the probnlem is - how to live till march...

there is a bank in an area called Badawan on 60th rd or in kurdish they say Shesty, it is called the bank of iraq, i just happened to see it so i am not sure if there are more.

i have no idea about accomodation because i was living with my family there, and having so many relatives helps hehe
so accomodation taken out, there is not much expenses really, taxi is cheap and if u learn your way around u can get into shared taxis which is even cheaper and then there is buses which is even cheaper then shared taxis hehe

sorry i dont know pounds but i stayed there for just over a month and spent about $300-$400 USD, and that was me being VERY generous and buying anything i want however my cousins are stubborn as well and didnt let me pay for alot of things when we were together haha (i love them)

i see more good news for me!

so the onlyn thing that left for me is to use these few months to learn sorani - no time to waste, i am starting seroisly from today - every day 5 new words to learn and when i am at work, i am writting short text - like 6-8 sentences in sorani and some of my brothers - last week the one who used to be a teacher in kurdistan - correct it - i wrote two times and i made only 2 mistakes in each text - not serious one, so i am very positive about the learning .
if i will have any more questions - i will ask for sure!

Hi Kulka,

I just wanted to confirm that you will not need a visa. I am an EU citizen & I was in Kurdistan a few months ago. I landed in Erbil & the passport control officer just asked me if it's my first time to Kurdistan & told me to get registered (at some office, I couldn't understand him because his English wasn't the best) if I stay longer than 10days. That time I stayed for a week so there was no need to get registered, but I'm going soon again & this time I'll find out how this procedure looks like. Will keep you posted before you fly in March

i have been to that building , they stamp a visa permit for 1 month on your passport and you pay $100 USD , go early in the morning the process will be quicker , ask any cabie where the visa stamp office is and they will take you there i think its somewhere near Gulan street ?.
