Kurdistan KRG electricity ministry plans to boost national grid’s capacity by some 500 megawatts in the summer time, July, August, to meet the region’s demand.

The ministry has already set up two power turbine engines in Chamchamal district with providing 125 megawatts at each, Diyar Baban the ministry’s spokesperson told PUKmedia.

They are temporarily stopped working and scheduled to restart by summer when the demands reach the peak due to temperatures can top 45 degrees Celsius. The power set to add to the region’s national grid, he noted.

KRG, on the other hand, has signed four agreements with Metallic Company to set up 16 mobile power stations in Erbil and Duhok to reduce the loads on the region’s grid.

Kosrat Rasul Ali, Kurdistan vice president, received Monday in his headquarter in Erbil Sosomo Hasigawa Japanese ambassador to Iraq.

Both sides exchanged opinions upon Iraq’s status in general and Kurdistan region in particular.

The bilateral friendly cooperative relations with Iraq and Kurdistan in the terms of policy and economy are also discussed.

Kosrat Rasul suggested operating more Japanese companies in every aspect in the region.

WASHINGTON, — The U.S.-Kurdistan Business Council (USKBC), a trade group of U.S. companies investing in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, named former U.S. National Security Advisor General James Jones (USMC-Ret) as the council’s CEO last week during a reception honoring President of the Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani.

"General Jones is exceptionally knowledgeable about Kurdistan and about the history and importance of U.S. engagement with the region. His long experience will be an asset to the U.S. business community interested in Kurdistan and its important investment opportunities," Alex Cranberg, chairman of Aspect Holdings, an energy exploration and production company and founding member of the USKBC, said.

The USKBC announced the selection of General Jones at its reception honoring President Barzani, who was in Washington at the invitation of the White House. During his visit,www.ekurd.net President Barzani met with President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden and other top Administration officials. The USKBC met privately with President Barzani as well. He also addressed the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

“As the special relationship between the U.S. government and the Kurdistan Regional Government matures, the USKBC will strengthen that relationship as a commercial and policy platform working with both governments,” Ayal Frank, an advisor to the USKBC, said.

The Swedish government Opened in Erbil, Tuesday, and with the support from the United Nations, and one of the automotive industry companies, academy training and rehabilitation, to help the region to promote the sectors of industry and commerce, as well as the establishment of vocational training courses, while the government announced that the Kurdistan region of near transform Sweden Mmthleetha in Erbil to the Consulate .

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Government Swedish Eva Baorlng, in a speech opening ceremony Academy, attended by "Alsumaria News", "The Swedish government supports the Kurdistan region for the education of its population and their training, and the opening of the Academy a clear reference to the efforts of Sweden to strengthen its relations with the Kurdistan in the areas of trade, industry and exchange."

The Organization (UNIDO), the UN and the Swedish company Scania for the automotive industry may Taakedta to support the Academy five million dollars for four years, shall be vested in the government in the province of Kurdistan, the task of management.

Kurdistan-Sweden trade exchange volume over US$ 150 million with plans for doubling

ERBIL, April 17 (AKnews) – The volume of trade exchange between Kurdistan Region and Sweden has hit US$154 million last year and the Swedish authorities are planning to double the exchange volume by 2015, it was announced today.

Swedish Minister of Trade Eva Bjorling, who is on a several days visit to Kurdistan Region, told AKnews on Tuesday that the Swedish government is seeking to enhance its relations with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in areas of trade, economy, education and health.

“Last year, the trade exchange volume between Kurdistan and Sweden was US$157 million and we want to double the figure in all areas by 2015” said the Swedish Trade Minister.

Bjorling opened today the Swedish Embassy’s trade office in Erbil as well as an institute to help Iraqis address unemployment.

Fathi Mohammed, an adviser to the KRG Ministry of Trade and Industry said the trade exchange volume between Kurdistan Sweden since 2005 has hit US$1 billion, in particular after the Swedish auto maker SCANIA entered Iraq and Kurdistan.

“SCANIA alone has dealt over US$150 million since it entered Iraq” he said.

SCANIA entered KRG in May 2010 after opening branches for production and sales. IT also strengthened its position in 2011 when it entered into a cooperation agreement with Ministry of Industry and Minerals to deliver 4,000 vehicles during a five-year period, together with its partner Qanadeel al Rafidain.

Currently, there are 56 Swedish companies registered in the region who work in the areas of auto industry, health, trade and industry.

KRG high delegation of tourism participated officially for the first time in 7th World Congress on Snow and Mountain Tourism.

The congress is organized by UNWTO and the Government of Andorra in conjunction with Parish of La Massana on 11th and 12th April 2012. Roughly 155 countries and 355 organizations are members of that organization.

The Kurdistan delegation was assigned special identification and registered to be invited for the future tourism congresses.

For two days, leading international experts will discuss the new strategies to be adopted for mountain tourism

The delegation returned home with tons of new strategies about developing tourism sector in the Kurdistan region. The region receives tens of thousands foreign tourists whereas they claim there are still shortcomings in tourism sector.

The UNWTO Secretary General, Talib Rafae, officially received the Kurdish delegation, admitting that they have neglected the region up to now, but pledges to take the region into account from now on.

I live in sweden and every kurd owns a kurdish flag BTW its good too see Sweden invest in Kurdistan i knew some swedes that worked in kurdistan building the country. Swedes are very skilled and i hope some corrupt swede smuggle some of their fine weaponsystems so we can defend us against barbarian arabs.

Yeah, I know a lot of Kurds are living in Sweden. I have some family members in Sweden .
I think the Swedes like the Kurds because they are far more liberal than other Middle-Easterners.

GARMIYAN, April 21 (AKnews) - The Kurdistan Region is expected to become a member of the Madrid-based United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in fewer than two months.

pshtiwan abdulkarimA delegation from the region participated in the UNWTO's conference held from April 10-11 for the first time.

Kurdistan was the only region to participate in the gathering, said general director for Garmiyan area tourism Pshtiwan Abdul-Kareem. He led the delegation to Spain.

On following day the delegation introduced itself as the representative for the Kurdistan Region and succeeded in forming relations with a number of state members, added Abdul-Kareem.

"I delivered a speech in Kurdish and on behalf of Kurdistan I demanded that we become a member of the UNWTO.

"There's a chance that before June they'll respond to us."

Abdul-Kareem said the conference discussed geographical areas with snow and high mountains, both of which Kurdistan enjoys.

"In addition Kurdistan enjoys security… and it has been named the Arab tourism capital for 2015."
