Thanks, dyaoko, for your reply !

Ultimately it shall be all Iraqi Kurdistan, but I guess it would make sense to work with various people who are each most familiar with certain (their home) areas and collectively that would lead to a more detailed map for the entire region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

We did not yet go into the details of the logistics of "who does what" because I just wanted to see first if it is feasible at all to find interested participants online. Then, before anything starts for real, we would certainly detail and agree such details with everyone so that there is no confusion.

But does that also include the disputed areas?

Thanks ! Me, unfortunately not speaking Kurdish, I just went with WIKIPEDIA (..."Kurdish (Kurdish: Kurdî or کوردی) is a dialect continuum spoken by the Kurds in western Asia. It is part of the Iranian branch of the Indo-Iranian group of Indo-European languages."... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurdish_language). I hope that's ok.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the question. Me, not being a Kurdish, I am too aware that any subject regarding to Kurdistan CAN be contentious, dependent who you speak to and what "the position" of that person is. As fas as I am concerned, let me just say, I am only interested in providing users a valuable service, there is no "political angle or agenda" to this project at all. Pragmatically speaking, I would suggest to include the "disputed areas". Not to make a "statement" of any sort, but just to make sure the maps are as useful as possible to as many people as possible. Makes sense and is "acceptable"?

Kurdi is the Kurdish word for Kurdish. If spoken about a language its totally right to say Kurdi. You are confusing this with Arabs who tend to call the Kurds "Kurdi".

Thanks, alan131210.

The answers I got so far you see in the posts here. I dont want to look amateurish, but I thought for this kind of "job" getting "local communities" involved would be a good thing. If it works I don't know yet. Let's see what the reception will be. If you know people who might be interested, feel free to spread the word.

Thanks ! While I am exploring (here) how the response of a "community" is in terms of interest in participating we are checking which practices/tools would be most efficient for the project. We are looking to do as much as possible online and as "automated" as possible but details not decided yet.

I am thinking may be we can have a section named rojbash.info/maps where it is a API of google maps where the users can go and add the locations they know

Thanks, kardox, for you response. Cautioning people to be sensible is always good advise and I support that as well. The project I am planning is "decent" though, would be paid fairly for fair work. We have partners inside Kurdistan who will, once the project starts, make sure that payments are made safely and conveniently without a hassle. Just so much to reassure you (and everyone else).

And also thanks for pointing to the "Jobs in Kurdistan" Facebook page. That is of course a brilliant idea and I will post the project there in due course. I posted it here to see if it is feasible at all to find interested people in Kurdistan and then, dependent on the response, kickstart the project within 4-8 weeks.

THANKS AGAIN

Nothing personal. We have members from east and north kurdistan that may put their safety on risk if their identity is revealed. It is always good to be a bit cautious.

Sure, I can imagine... No point in risking anything for this project. OF COURSE, no one's individual address is expected, don't get me wrong. Its mainly about:

- having Kurdish and English names for locations which are widely used and open and of interest to the public
- such locations would be the major settlements to start with. Sure, the major cities are mapped quite a bit already, but many places are either not marked at all or can't be found easily due to language / spelling issues
- then of course the places of interest within the settlements. Again, nothing untowardly private, just what is of public interest.
- later we can also add roads as they are being built.
- then we alo think of generating a list of such places which are marked on the map so that these places can also be published online elsewhere. Kind of a "directory" of public places.

All in all its about making it easier to get around and find places of public interest.

THANKS

Yes, that might be a good idea. Lets see how the response is here and let me think about it how to do that best.
