30 December

Let us hope for a more peaceful year next year - no child should be made to live in a war zone X(

To know that some of his school friends have died as a result of such mindless violence - members of his own family will have also been casualties - children deserve to grow up in peace and freedom

31 December

Some weeks ago an 80 year old volunteer - for a group that enabled blind people to meet and teach each other Braille - was actually thrown out by the Jamaican supervisor who heard him use an inappropriate word while speaking with a friend.

The Jamaican then:

A) took it upon herself to phone all the group members telling them SHE had cancelled the group meeting

B) took upon herself to make a second phone call to all the group members them that SHE had cancelled their Christmas meal

C) took it upon herself to phone the venue and attempt to cancel the Christmas meal - fortunately the venue had been booked and paid for previously and NO connection to this woman - I am delighted to tell you the meal went ahead as planned

This has caused a split within the group - which has now broken into 3 separate groups - a great many extremely upset and distressed elderly people X(

Well my english is not so good to know if it is very offensive or not but in any case she should have tried to punish all the group because one had offended her.

Many people in England refer to the local shops run by Pakistanis as the local Paki shop - comments such as "I am just going to the Paki shop" are often heard - it is not used as an insult - just a contraction of the word Pakistani =))

80 year old English men and women are not always politicly correct - this is the second such case involving pensioners that I have heard of in recent weeks - the entire situation in England is becoming ridiculous

We cannot say blackboard - we can say whiteboard - political correctness is rubbish X(

Yeah I know that it is a short way for 'Pakistani' but I don't know if Indian find it offensive now :-D

We could not expect from old people born under British Empire to change their way to speak or even their mind. By the way, most of their life is behind them, so how could they harm current society ? Better to focus on how to live together for the next years.

1 January 2014

HAPPY NEW YEAR :ymparty:

I received 54096 hits and comment on this thread during the past year - so I will try to make it much more exciting this year :o)

The new year is a time to renew old friendships and keep in contact with loved ones :x

I am delighted with the number of friends who sent me new year greetings :ymblushing:

I wonder what happened to some of the people who used to come here:

SadKurdLover:
she had a great many problems and sadly some people on here told her that her troubles were all here own fault - she stopped coming - I hope and pray that she and her 2 children are all safe - healthy - and happy :ymhug:

Aslan: a young man who studied extremely hard - and still had time to keep us up with the news - I hope his exam results are good - and that soon he will have time to share with us again :ymhug:

freekurd2013: a man who is in Syria risking his life to help other - I know he has lost many friends - he struggled to pass us information - but sadly his English is not very good - I hope and pray that he survives the conflict :x

I hope that we will have peace in the coming year and

FREEDOM FOR KURDISTAN :ymparty:

2 January

I know why I am sitting here sing "Only the lonely"

Several of my friends have asked me to fix their computers - it seems that a lot of people are experiencing problems due to a New Year Virus - immediately the year changes their MICROSOFT systems CRASHED - it would be mean of me to laugh ;)

I suggest people read some of the hints and information in the Computer & Technology section of this forum - it might offer them protection in the future ;)

3 January

We had another gale in England last night - the ground is saturated - lots of flooding and fallen trees - does not need very much wind to blow the trees over - they are no longer on solid ground just sitting in soft mud - very dangerous - we are expecting rain most of next week - unless the heavy snows and freezing temperatures they are experiencing in America come this way and freeze us all :-o

For now the south of England is bright and sunny - perfect dog walking weather :D

I do NOT own a TV :o)

When friends visit me we TALK as in face to face - without the use of mobile phones - my friends all have enquiring minds - if I am feeling kind I will show them interesting and informative websites - they will take selfies with my giant TUX :ymhug:

I have noticed that the TV and media are intentionally dumbing down the population - have any of you watched American game shows :-o

In England the most popular newspaper is the SUN - no idea why it is referred to as a newspaper - it is full of half naked women and gossip:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/

Far too many people use computers without having the slightest idea how they work - or how easy it is for people to hack into laptops - mobiles and their various social network accounts - indeed many people do not even take the time to read all the warnings and information I post on this site

Time for me to do another install - I tried the new Ubuntu but it is not very versatile so looking for something different - visitors always want to see how easy it is to change distros - just like that - 30 seconds to put disk in - very little needs adjusting - automatic boot :D

11am booting from disk

11.01 start install

11.01 confirm language

(I am doing a full install - removing Ubuntu - using entire disk - I am writing over empty space and filling up entire disk - added protection)

11.02 confirm encryption key

11.02 confirm password

11.10 computer still copying files from disk

11.11 installing system - tells me what packages it is in

11.13 everything installed and working perfectly :ymparty:

The sunshine has gone - the wind is getting stronger - it has started to rain again - but I have a NEW distro to play with - well I did have but someone else wants to play so I am going to try my luck with mah jong :ymdevil:
